Ian and Henry!...what an awesome combination of landscape photographers!!
Thanks kevin, yes its always great to meet up with Henry, its been a couple of years since we last met up, you can watch that one here 👍👉 ua-cam.com/video/0440CKpPHlQ/v-deo.html
cool to see you and henry doing a colab.
Thanks buddy, yeah its the 5th one we've done together over the years. It's always great to catch up with Henry, he's a top bloke 👍👍
Class mate! Cheers for a mint evening 👍🏼
Always good to meet up mate 😁👍👍
Under blue skies, I always think b&w and high contrast, which can make amazing images! Nice video, thank you!
Out of the two I vote for the coloured version in this instance
Great video Ian. I love that bit of the coast. Good surf spot the other side of the headland too 🤙
Thanks Stephen, is it a left? 👍
Best landscape photographer in UA-cam. BY FAR 🙌
Thanks so much, Henry really is awesome 👍👍🙏
B and W for me. The increased contrast helps pull some interesting textures out in the rock and green areas of the colour shot.
The color shot is just so subtle Lovely...
All your shots are inspiring.
Thank you.
Following the suggestion from Henry last week , I decided to pop over and check your channel, so glad I did , great video with stunning photos, I loved the black and white image best as the mood is absolutely perfect, many thanks 😊
Thanks Geoff, that means a lot buddy 😊🙏
Really enjoyed the thought processes in this one. Seems like endless possibilities in those rock faces painted in the sunlight. I live in a great region of the midwestern US that is loaded with sandstone and limestone bluffs but I'm always too focused on wildlife and wide-open types of landscapes. Gotta spend more time searching for patterns in mid-day when wildlife is less active.
One thing I like to take photos of is swirls of pollen on the surface of some calm water and then just edit the hell out of it lol. Tree bark is awesome for these kinds of shots too. American Sycamores have some fantastic patterns flowing through their bark that looks fantastic in proper lighting. There is also this pattern called 'Tafoni' which occurs in rock faces due to weather/erosion that looks really cool.
Thanks for sharing Ian! I enjoy the 2 different perspectives from yourself and Henry.
Hey I came over from Henry's video...what a location! I really liked the full colour tower at sunset with just that kiss of golden glow on the hills.
Hi Ian ! Love both pictures, both I might give few points more for the B&W one !
Great to see you two legends collaborating ❤❤
My wife and I have been fans of Henry since the beginning of the pandemic. We watched his latest last evening and your episode tonight. You now have two more fans.
The black and white!!!
Great tips for blue sky day, very helpful indeed, prefer the mono shot, although the light may have been better, I wonder if the later shot would have been much different in mono? Your videos, as with Henry’s are a must watch for me. Great stuff 👍📷
Thanks Neil 👍👍
Another great video Ian, with some nice tips. Many thanks.
Loved the colour one of last light
The color is for me the best, and thanks to Henry you have a new follower.
Thanks so much, 🙏🙏👍
Thanks great tips , I preferred the B&W , I found the green grass distracted the eye away from the tower . Pete Western Australia
Amazing combination, i love both of you and your great photographs buddy , wishes from India 🇮🇳
Excellent tips as always. To have the 'Dynamic Duo' as well. Awesome 😎!
Liked both shots equally, the B&W made the waves stand out more and it wasn’t an interesting sky as you say. The colour image captured the light on the cliffs and in the sky lovely 👌 Photography = capturing light and if there is one thing I have learned it’s adapt and take advantage of it whatever conditions you have 😉 nice to see you two out together 👍
Some great tips here for blue sky days, cheers.
Like the mono best and also like the abstract square shots.
Sent over from Henrys channel, looks like you both had a good day out
My choice is the colour of the tower because it has more subtlties, however comparing them is good for your video as you have shown what to do on a bright cloudless day. The black and white highlights (to me) your objective. Well done.
Definite preference for the colour version. Your colour shots are awesome!
The colorful coastline image is my favorite, its accentuates the colors all around it.
Thanks so much 👍👍
Great advice! Thanks for taking me along!
You are so welcome! 👍👍
Great information s always...I lean in on the black and white which gives it a timeless element! Great job!
Great video with helpful pointers. Your opinion of the blue sky was interesting and relatable being not as photogenic as clouds as far as landscape goes. The zooming in to textured areas of interest was good encouragement to use the artist’s eye to create. The black and white is my favorite of the two lovely landscapes. The black and white was a vintage feel with great contrast. Thanks, Mate.
Some good ideas thank you, mono headland for me
Cheers Paul 👍👍
Awesome video, a joy to watch! I like the second one miles better, love the color which creates a nice separation between the elements imho, and the soft light is so nice. I'm all about the color :)
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏😊👍
Great seeing you and Henry on one video…. always loved his enthusiasm…. As usual great shots… good advice…. I prefer the second image…. a good collaboration
Thanks Steve, glad you liked the video 👍🙏
Another great video Ian. Some terrific shots. And great to see you out with Henry! Interesting to see how to photographers approach the location under the exact same circumstances and light. Well done! Cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it Alan, yes its always great to catch up with Henry, he's a top bloke 👍👍
Loved the B&W final shot and thanks to Henry for letting joining your journey 😀 📷👍
I prefer the color one. Great tips and great shots too. Love the abstract patterns! Thank you so much for your inspiration.
You are so welcome! Daniel 👍👍
Such a wonderful clip full of valuable hints and information, Ian. I've been gleaning what I can from Henry T. for a couple of years now, and thoroughly enjoy his work, and now yours too. Perhaps I'm getting thick in the head in my old age, but I've seen other photographers when they photograph a rock face, turn the camera to a non-vertical angle and it never occurred to me to do the same. Problem solved now. I hope.😉
Glad you enjoyed it 👍😊
great video thank you...
Ian and Henry you are definitely the Yin and yang of landscape photography, it's great to see you working together. While I really appreciate Henry's energy and enthusiasm, I am much more in tune with your more subdued approach Ian. I have also struggled with blue sky days and you give some great tips to consider Ian, thank you. I am trying much more to challenge myself these days so will be sure to give these a try next time I'm out in these conditions. All the best.
Thanks buddy, that means a lot 👍👍
Great tips on handling blue sky days, Ian. I like both versions of the cliffs, they just create different moods. Mono often works well in strong, contrasty light and the colour version works well with the softer, pastel tones at sunset.
Color
I do like B&W, but in this instance, I prefer the colour image. BTW, when I started this vid I thought that Tommy Fleetwood had given up on golf and taken up photography, likeness is striking! 😁
OOh Henry as a bonus! My preference is colour. Thanks Ian
Henry is indeed a bonus, such a top bloke 👍👍
Hi Ian fabulous shot of the cliff I think the subject lends itself to coulor or black and white so hard to choose I would be proud of both great shot many thanks for a great video Ian best to you and Henry two great passionate photographers
Great abstracts, we don’t always need the wide vistas
Love both of your photography, the pict. You ask color or B W, I like the color one better, also, I like the one with the little pink flowers, thanks....
Awesome, thank you! 😁👍👍
Thanks Ian for sharing your experience... great location & results...I just watched Henry's video that he made with you....I always love B&W pics ... great video with both of you... should make more ... cheers from Australia 🦘🦘😊
Thanks Robert, Here's one that Henry and I did a few years ago, wild camping in the lake district👉 ua-cam.com/video/0440CKpPHlQ/v-deo.html
Colour is my choice for the image. Thanks
Thanks Charlie 👍👍
So helpful for a guy like me who lives where most days are cloudless and bright blue beyond reason. Thanks for the tips and so good to see you meet up with Henry.
Thanks Jon, much appreciated 🙏🙏👍
I follow Henry, never heard of you - (Henry will love that!) - okay, you hooked me in - just subdcribed
Thanks, much appreciated 🙏🙏👍
Both nice but I prefer the black white.
Thanks to you and Henry for some good advice
Thanks Peter, 👍👍
Thanks Ian - great advice. Think I slightly prefer the colour image.
Thanks David, glad you liked it 👍👍
Loved both photos, but prefered the b/w
Love watching both your channels, what more could I want. Well done.👍💯
Awesome, thank you Paul 🙏🙏
Nice photos and location, thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it Alain 👍👍
Something I love to do as well when I run up against the blue sky situation is that you can also embrace it. Use it as a layer in a telephoto layered and compressed photo. It can be quite a good technique to use it in conjunction to frame your subject with a plain foreground and plain background or sky helping to draw your eye to the subject by negative space.
That's a great idea! 👍👍
What an absolutely fabulous spot! Those rocky cliffs are to die for (don't you hate clichés? ). I like the coloured shot best BTW.
Here in Perth we 'suffer' from clear blue skies for most of the summer so this video's a bit of a morale booster. Thanks and cheers from DownUnder 🦘
Thanks for watching Rob, glad you enjoyed the video 👍👍
I'm a B&W fan also.
Thanks 👍👍
Great images again mate.
The b&w for me 👍
Many thanks, same here 👍👍
Great , informative video. It’s a close call but I think I prefer the colour image
Thanks Ian 😊👍
Just curious: You don't seem to be using a lens hood. Why not?
I am really not sure why people have a fear of a beautiful clear blue sky in their shots. I live in Manila, Philippines ad we very often have beautiful azure blue skies and that colour adds something to a photo, IMO.
Henry Turner sent me.
Thanks for watching Scot, that's awesome 🙏👍👍
hi ian where is that beach with the steps going down where you took the images of the rocks,t.
Color version preferred
Great images - but how can you go wrong at the beach? What a lovely triptych the rock textures would make with the little pinks as the center.
Great idea Linda, they would work well together 😊👍👍
Lovely shots Ian -- and Henry!
Can I ask a gear question: Ian, were you using the 50-140 for the B&W/colour shots of the cliffs? And, if so, were you also using a teleconverter? I'm in the process of upgrading my kit. Ta!
Thanks Mark, yes it was the 50-140 i think it was at about 100mm. No teleconverter 👍
I prefer the B&W image.
Thanks Jon, me too 👍👍
Two vg togs together
B&W for me.
Same here Terry 👍👍
I prefer the B&W photo over the color, but just barely. Both excellent captures.
Thanks Rick, me too 👍👍
Telephoto shot much prefer colour one
Thanks David 🙏🙏
There's always Sky Replacement in Photoshop 😇
It always makes me laugh when photographers from England complain about blue skies. Head down under, especially the outback. Month after month of blue skies with a very short golden hour.
good stuff but too long winded
