When my boys were little and we lived in a old home, I found wooden shutters that just covered the bottom half of the windows. I loved how it looked. At night they could close the shutters for a sense of privacy, but could still lay in bed and watch the stars. Love the posters you picked out.
I love nice windows with no curtains! We are fortunate to live at the end of the Street so there is nothing but a big field to the south... so I can have no curtains ( or very sheer curtains ) without worrying about privacy. Your home is wonderful... I think of hot summer days and the cool, crisp look of your home is inviting! Then I think of winter and the warmth and the coziness of your home! It is “win/win” Thank you for sharing you home and ideas with us! LOVE IT ALL! 👍❤️👍
I store my child’s clothes in an old hutch and a sturdy extension style curtain rod is a great way to add an extra hanging bar if you ever need the space;)
Love the simplicity of the decor! That chair is perfect for a boys room, it kind of defines a boy if you understand what I mean. They are a little harder on things and careless! Also love the curtain less room, you’re lucky to be able to do this without worrying about privacy or neighbors. Also helps with kids sleep , their bodies will get used to rising with sunlight and sleeping with sunsets! ☺️
The shape if this room posed a furniture layout challenge but you did a great job. Pulling the head of both beds away from the wall was a good call and hiding the toyboxes. Love the artwork, desk, chair, rug, and all the light!
Lisa, you are so patient! I would drive myself crazy needing things to be done yesterday. Kudos to you. Perfect, simple style. Thanks for the inspiration. Hope you are feeling well.
In the summer you're going to need curtains or shades to cut down on the heat coming through those windows. Old houses are notorious for not being efficient.
Wood blinds would look great. Even wood plantation shutters. Expensive but last a lifetime. You could put louvered wood on the bottom and curtain on top. Or visa versa. Just a thought to make it really boyish and vintage. Otherwise, I love the boys bedroom. Pre-and during WW II style is great for kids. Antique pictures of Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Captain America era style too.
There ARE lead kits you can buy to test the chair for lead paint. There is a pretty good chance its not lead paint (Since lead was removed from paint in the late 70's) but really, unless you have a kid who is eating off it, or inhaling paint chips, its not much of a risk. Considering how old your house is, you probably have lead windows, lead paint, and lead other things too. Don't forget to check out thrift stores and goodwill for antique type items too! Not everyone sells to an antique store, not knowing the value and age of things so you might score pretty big. I just picked up a cedar lined chest from about 1960 at a goodwill recently. Also, don't be afraid of haggling in antique stores. Unless a price is set at firm, the owner might just go down a little bit for you. Cute room! I love how quickly your house is coming together. I've been living in my house (which was built around 1880) for almost 15 years and I'm not halfway near "complete" as you are. I swear I'm always finding an item that I just need and swapping things out.
kridder1018 well you have to remember fixing thing up and documenting it is literally our job, so that’s why we’re getting on it quickly. Our last house took ten years and there were still more things I would have loved to do!
We are 64 and we have that exact same chair! It is his chair from Sunday school when he was a child! We have 6 grandkids that have sat in that chair also! I never considered the paint 😳!
Hi Lisa!!! It’s coming along beautifully. I was looking at some of the comments. Aside from the lead, the fan makes me a little nervous too 😬. With their fingers getting too close. I’m sure you already know that, but I just figured I’d mention it. Have a nice evening!! 😁💖
Beautiful and cozy! Love everything: maps, chair, desk, all of it! Lisa, I am never disappointed with your wonderful projects. Thank you for your great videos.
Wow, you did such an amazing job! It looks so minimal yet cosy and just an overall restful space. I really like that you're doing more colour in this space and also more antiques, and you really know how to pull it all together. I love that antique chair, it's so beautiful and I love the distressed look. If it were me I'd just polish it with a very fine sandpaper to smooth it without removing too much of the paint and then add a beeswax finish. I also love how it ties in with the blue from the bedcovers.
I love the room Lisa. You always seem to manage light and airy but cosy at the same time. You guys are doing so well in such a short time. I love the idea with the table cloth into pillow cases. I've got odd pieces I've collected over the years and this would be such a great idea to actually take them out the cupboard and turn them into something pretty and useful. Thank you so much for sharing x
Cute room, at this age your boys don’t need a lot of furniture in there, just more room to play. May I suggest to make (or buy) a full set of wooden building blocks for them? They will be building bridges and train stations...just some ideas to enrich their play in that large, airy, beautiful space.
Love the boys room. You're right about the light entering the room, it's so cheery. I hope the boys aren't like my kids gets scared of the storms when they pass. They hate seeing lightening and thunder. Sometimes they end up in the bed with me in spite of having curtains. 😆 Thanks for showing us.
This looks so nice. I really don't like curtains. We just moved into a new home and I haven't put up curtains. I like the natural lighting and openness. Thank you for sharing!
I love your style! I agree with someone else’s comment you seal the chair. Also have you thought about adding a pop of colour by painting the door, I think it would look great in a blue green 😊 love from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺
Lovely 😍 I’d love to see your kiddos “minimal” wardrobes as well. We have outdoor kiddos too and it’s a chore keeping up on play clothes and their nice clothes.
I love the boys' room and those repurposed pillow covers! Love love all the windows! 😍 As others have mentioned, I also worry about lead paint when bringing home older painted items, ceramics, plates, etc. You can get a test kit at home improvement stores just for piece of mind if you haven't checked it already. 😊
I realized recently that the plates I have used for years with my young kids likely contained lead. They were made before 1970 when regulations were put in place. I was so sad because they were hand me downs from my grandmother and felt awful because my kids were probably exposed to it all these years. Sometimes you just don't know these things!
Farmhouse on Boone I”m happy you guys are getting to go to a wonderful beach 🏖 as Folly beach , there was usually lots of dolphins there. Don’t forget to go to King street in downtown Charleston for loving antiquing! We went on the Schooner Pride for an amazing sailboat ride that stands over 80 feet tall around the harbor!
Oh those embroidered pillow covers are darling!! Great thinking! You are always so inventive! I will look forward to that tutorial ~ I'm thinking it would even be fun to embroider some of my own over the summer on some old cloth. XOXO
Love the room. I think the antique fans have so much character, but it scares the begeebees out of me in a child's room. I grew up with those fans. They are dangerous with children, what child can't resist playing with a fan?
Cohen Harvey I have the beds linked in the description. Someone told me the desk is actually an old thing to hold fermenting crocks so maybe searching something along those lines.
So homey and cozy....love it!
Love love the blue chair, good find!!
I love the owl bookends!!!!!!!! Super cute!!!!
April Murrell aren’t those fun?! My brother in law bought those for us a few years ago.
The room is adorable! I see I’m not the only one concerned about the fan with children.
Love the pillows that you made out of an old tablecloth, they are cross stitched, pretty!
Can't pass up beautiful cross stitch like that, especially for 8 bucks!

That sounds adorable!
I didn't read any of the comments when I posted! So I guess we are like-minded
Everything is perfect Lisa! Love the vibrant blue of the chair with the soft green fan. The rug is really pretty! The Dino print is fun too. 🤗

All of those windows are beautiful!! Absolutely love the style you have, Lisa. What a cozy, bright, inviting room 💙

That baby bump is a girl!😍 If the Lord wills! Love this video, inspiring for my boys room. Thank you Lisa.
You know a lot.
I've been told both at this point! I guess we'll see ;)
I just got a sewing machine bramd new for $59 and made my first pillow cover thanks so much for your new sewing series
That's awesome! I am so glad! :)
Trains and dinosaurs are my boys favorite!! I love the prints and the way you styled the room! Lots of room to play!
Thank you so much, Emily!!
The room is gorgeous you did well with the shape of it. I love all the light.
Ash Topham thank you!
It looks fantastic!! I love how bright it is and the rustic antiques!
Thank you so much Elise!

I’m loving that oval rug!!! As usual your place is looking delicious!!! Lol
Take it easy with the baby coming.
Love all your Vintage finds! That desk, fan and chair are just the perfect addition! Many happy memories will be made their ❤❤❤

Hi Lisa, the boys bedroom looks great, love your simple and clutter free style ,
Looks great!! You've accomplished so much in the short time you've been there!
Nicely done, just PLEASE check that fan on the desk for lead!! Also the chai unless that is simple distressed .
I totally didn't think of this, but after all of the comments, I am going to replace the chair with something else.
You could also just put a heavy clear coat over them to seal it up but keep the look. 👍
Does the game work? I'm always afraid of their fingers.
A can of triple thick poly will seal the chair
We are 64 and we have that exact same chair! It is his chair from Sunday school when he was a child! We have 6 grandkids that have sat in that chair also! I never considered the paint 😳!
Me neither! It didn't cross my mind. It is a valid point though.

Donna I definitely didn’t think of it when I bought it but now I’m going to clip the cord. Scares me too!
So many windows!! 💜💜💜
Yes! And they normally have dinosaurs lined up on them. ;)
Haha!! I hear that.. for us, it’s books!! We have way too many books.. 😁

I love that desk. The room looks great, very simple and clean. Thanks for sharing 😊
Love the look of the boys room, so sweet.
Thank you so much!
Love the room. I’d just make sure there’s no lead in the chippy chair paint, especially since it’s in the boys room.
Just adore this room.

If its a working fan please remove the cord or plug from the fan so the kids dont plug it in and chop fingers off.

You are officially a decorator !! By house changes around three times a week !
Love the old fan in the bedroom. My dad buys and restores those fans. We have several in our house. :-)
How cool! I have always wanted one, but this is the first time I have actually purchased one.

Wonderful 💙
Lisa.......it’s beautiful
Perfect!

It looks great. Maxine Ok
Love that wooden train set. My dad had a set like that. I would love to find electric fans like yours. Did it work or did you have to rewire it?
Susan Bates this one happened to work.
The room is turning out so cute. I love the beds! I love all the windows. Don’t the kids wake up super early with all the light coming in to the room?
eliana carrillo they do, but they always do that anyway. All of our kids are early risers. 😩
You could come decorate my house anytime. I love your style.
Do you ever worry about lead when purchasing antiques/vintage furniture?
Thanks for the update.. Love your style as u decorate each room. The boys room looks very cozy and warm.
The room looks very nice with lots of room for the boys to play. I love simple. Simple is more. One question are the Windows new too darling?
Susan Velez nope! They are the original wood windows. We’ll never replace them, though we do have storm windows on the outside.
I hope that chair is lead free.Thats why it’s hard for me to buy antique furniture. I worry about lead poisoning...
Love the room. I think the antique fans have so much character, but it scares the begeebees out of me in a child's room. I grew up with those fans. They are dangerous with children, what child can't resist playing with a fan?
I actually thought of this later. Since this one actually does work, we have to move it. Maybe we could just cut the cord and use it for decoration!
@@FarmhouseonBoone maybe remove cord so it could be reattached at later time.
Farmhouse on Boone It could be set on top of that high chest where they can’t reach it. A fan moving the air really cools the room.
Very cute, fan is not kid friendly as little fingers can get hurt with those wide openings.
I have two questions 1. Where did you get the beds and 2. What would you look up if you are trying to make a copy of that desk
Cohen Harvey I have the beds linked in the description. Someone told me the desk is actually an old thing to hold fermenting crocks so maybe searching something along those lines.
