Good job Jennifer! I searched this out because I have a beautiful new black, sleeveless with v neck jump suit that needs this same 1" alteration at the shoulders. I have done some sewing in the past, but definitely needed some direction on this project. I was so fearful of messing this up, but your video has helped me a lot! Thank you so much!
I have sewn in some different factories and they all used one-quarter inch seams and they all used the same stitches per inch , I just don't remember what that number was. Thanks, I always enjoy your videos.
Thanks so much for the video. I have a tank that has that type of strap and needs adjusting. I had no idea how to do it till now. Hope you had a great time!
I’m a bit confused at 1:41….once I open seams from both sides…..do I now…..stitch to shorten then cut excess fabric? Then hand stitch seams from both sides to close?
Hi, I need to shorten my shoulder top but I have a high back so when I try to sew it the back is a different width. Do you know how I can overcome this?
I'm a little confused by the angle exactly which seam you ripped out. Can someone who has some experience explain? Looking at my own garment (also a lined dress with very similar straps) it appears I should rip out the seam that connects the "back" part of the strap to the front part. Is that what she did? It looks different than I expected, so thanks for any help!
Shoulder straps that are too long is one of my most common garment fit issues - what are yours?
👍🏼
Fabulous tutorial. You made this alteration quick and easy.

Most people would be so afraid to try that! Great job Jen!
Thanks Michelle!
Great video, Jennifer! Very short and concise! Wonderful tips! I love making basic adjustments such as this to RTW garments! Great job!
I'm still rather new, but if I can do it - I think anyone can!
Great job Jen and thanks for showing how you went about this.

This type of alteration has always seemed so complicated but once I tried it, not so bad!
Nice job! Love the color of that dress on you. Hope you had a great time at the event. And now I know how to do that too as I have similar fit issues.
It was a great evening! Thanks Nancy!
Using this to alter the strap on my one-shoulder bridesmaid dress... the outer fabric is chiffon, so wish me luck! Thanks so much for the help!

I have the same problem! You did make that look pretty easy!
Definitely not as bad as I thought it would be!
How do I shorten a dress but without losing the length.

No, I did not rip that seam. The seam I ripped was the side running parallel to the strap (longer side).
Great job!
Thank you!
Great video ty
Needed to see what someone else did with this problem. Good
What stitch did you use to resew together?
