      You're asking a lot of a senior dev who has never written a single line of code! So, you're going to have to put up with TODO apps until the end of time.

    Hi Ryley. I've been following your learning in public saga since the beginning I believe. I want to do the same thing, but because Portuguese is my first language, I want to create content for Portuguese speakers. Do you think this could be rewarding, open for new opportunities? I live in the US and I speak English, however I don't feel comfortable creating content in English.
    Finally, what are some pieces of advice for someone who is shy and not so charismatic?
    I love your content. Thank you so much.

    Great vid Riley! I'm getting ready to start making small business content on TikTok and YT so this is right on time! I love to see you building in public. I'm on the YapThread waitlist. I'd like to hear a little more in detail on the composer side of the creator/composer coin.

    Doesn’t it make sense to build software only after a problem or need exists? Just because we can put software together quickly doesn’t mean the natural order of identifying what matters before building it goes out the window.
    For example, I’m currently working on a project set to launch at the end of the year. This project will eventually be used by 95% of Americans because it will be essential for some legal documentation (which I can’t specify right now). We’re only building this after identifying several weak points in both the manual and semi-automated processes that all Americans go through. Essentially, the demand for this solution was clear, and we’re expecting millions of users-but we only began the project once the problem was firmly established and a solution can be measured and observed.
    Content / Informing the public happens after data collection. I think you're already doing this inherently, but for folks that aren't fine tune with this process, maybe they'll just build something random that doesn't really solve anything and get confused why content isn't hitting.

      most people build stuff they would themselves use-- not sure what you're going on about.

      @@terminally_lazy isn’t this video making content to sell software to others?
      There’s a big difference in solving your own problem vs solving a real problem. Example, you might want a specific note app. It works great for you, but most folks would just use one of the existing note taking apps that already have the features (just less specific).

      @@Ivcota And if you don't believe that solving your own problems inevitably solves others' problems, than I don't know what to tell you.

      @@terminally_lazy Y Combinator's slogan is 'Build something people want.' Many fall into the trap of thinking what they want is what people want.
      All I said was that there needs to be a validation step (even in the age of AI). The data is clear: the majority of startups fail because they follow this pattern of building what they 'think' people want without doing the research.
      It's not about believing your problems solve others'-it's about avoiding the idea of survivorship bias ("oh x founder solved his y problem and everyone else had the same problem - it will be the same for me") and thinking you'll be the one to build the best revolutionary to-do app.

    • @Ivcota
      @Ivcota 16 годин тому

      @@terminally_lazy I've been in this game long enough to see loads of people working on something that nobody wants. Even the solo startup founders start like 20+ apps before they start getting dubs.
      If you introduce the validation step, you can make content before even building the application + validate & get users waiting to use your app before you've solved the problem.
      Hopefully you understand where I'm getting at - I'm just wanting people to succeed lol
