Limmy trying to work out that first fucking joke, with his face like a sad sprout, is fucking killing me
The mileage joke refers to British petrol stations who would give you points for spending money on fuel which could then be traded to get products such as toasters, alarm Clocks and drinking glasses
genuinely thank you for this i was about to have a stroke trying to decipher this joke
Esso tokens were a massive deal.
I remember my mum and dad getting a set of Crystal Glasses
We still have some soup mugs.
Absolutely mental how none of the building blocks of that joke make any sense in 2022.
Yeah, Limmy was blinded by his natural prejudice for 80s comedians. "It's definitely gonna be racist, I'm just working out how."
Growing up In Northern Ireland, Roy Walker was more horrific than anything the troubles threw at us. The shame of speaking with the same accent as this man will be a stain on my soul for all eternity.
😂 howling thanks for this comment
How has this comment not got more likes? That set was brutal from Roy. To be a pro stand-up back in the day you just had to have the nerve to go on-stage to polite ripples of applause
These jokes have aged like a fine wine. the ones where the lable rots off the bottle and you need an expert to identify them.
And yet still tastes like piss.
👌
😂😂😂
Roy has such a cool and calm delivery, he's nowhere near as animated as Mr Chips.
Lovely stuff.
Mr Lips more like
Especially when Mr Chips was nearly caught wanking (look it up!)
Wahey! Love it
Did well for himself Roy. Had a shop in Belfast which he was forced to close after being threatened at gun point for being a Protestant married to a Catholic. Moved to England and started from scratch again.
I was waiting for the punchline- thought it was one of his crap jokes
Late 80s humour in England was starting what appeared to be a racist joke, before taking a sharp turn to The Left.
ie finishing the joke with an innocuous punchline.
Thereby making the audience look racist, for jumping to conclusions by laughing pre-emptively about whatever racist shit they thought you were going to say.
Good times.
There was this Jew, this Muslim and this Roman Catholic walking down the road. What a fine example of an integrated community, ladies and gentlemen
Where was this? What street? x@@finncullen
Bernard Righton
I was 15 back in 1995 and saw Roy do a show on Blackpool pier, thought he was funny, he made a joke like " where I grew up was really rough, even the dogs carried sticks with them" it was his confident delivery that made it funny.
His delivery here is great! Unfortunately the jokes are absolutely shit! 🤣
that's a great line though
He so confident he can wait all day until you’re ready to laugh.
Despite the jokes being naff, Roy is so confident and assured that he makes you believe they're good
Gid guess but it's nat reyt.
@@therespectedlex9794 You're reeeeeeyt!
Nah, he’s wank.
Roy was a true Alpha. It was fear that got him the laughs.
the telegraph pole bit was alright
He's got the funny bone
He's the same age as Limmy in this video. (47)
And with a hairline Limmy can only dream of.
but... but this streamed on the 14th, didn't it?
And Limmy's a '74 model, so... when's he 48?
I wouldn't be so invested but I'm 49 in 20 days and obviously REALLY sh**e at maths, or something...
New drinking game - take a shot every time he pauses a video.
Don't, we need to protect our NHS
I would play, but can't because I drive a Japanese car
I'm an alcoholic now.
might get liver disease pretty fast
It's painful
Great set, what a pleasure it would have been to see him.
Limmy stepping on this comedy genius's pacing hard with the pauses.
Man limmy is rent free in my head, his character and humor fills me with so much relatable joy
Humour. Sorry, but American spelling mistakes get up my nose.
@@russellpeacock2853 they might be american tbf
It’s no excuse.
@@russellpeacock2853 its humor actually
Michael Laudrup is a great comedian
👏
I too applaud you one for the most niche jokes I've ever read in a comments section. 👏
Roy most likely got paid £50 and his cab fare
A set of drinking glasses would have been a prize from petrol stations for vouchers received in exchange for buying petrol.
This is comedy genius compared to everything else on 3-2-1
My mum and dad still have the Esso tumblers. Certainly put a tiger in their tank.
Do you mean they use to finger each other a lot?
The confidence of Roy, the absolute chad
Father-in-law level comedy
Mind that time Nick Weir fell down the stairs on Catchphrase? What a knob. 😂
mentioned it every episode after the bellend. Probably still dines out on it now
The shampoo joke is that the chemist impregnated the woman in the advert in exchange for the right shampoo
Right, and the context is that J&J had ads to market Baby Shampoo to adults to use themselves.
I can see that being a new game show. Limmy Deciphers old jokes like Indiana Jones lol 😂😂
I was born in 71. Roy Walker (pre-Catchphrase) had a very dry, dead-pan stand-up delivery. I even remember, at the time that Catchphrase started, thinking, why have they got him on? It'll be depressing! Obviously, it was all an act, and I loved Catchphrase! It looks like, at this point, he's having to balance the dry, dead-pan delivery with his Catchphrase persona, which most people watching, would have known him for.
Cross over of the 321 and Catchphrase universes? It's like fucking Avengers man.
Roy trolling the audience back then with the "omg, Walker is going to do a racist joke".
Limmy still falling for it
The classic "Jap joke" opening gambit from Roy there. Jim Davidson sadly never mastered the art of using irony..
He's quick this Jock, isn't he?!🙄
The shepherd and telegraph pole ones were great
urr can you explain the telegraph pole one? I don't get it :(
@@jk6971 The implication is that on being told to "put telegraph poles into the ground", he'd misunderstood that to mean they should be hammered *all the way* into the ground, which presumably would take much longer than installing them only deep enough to stand safely upright.
@@apmeehanOh right... that's a pretty esoteric joke.
I love you so much for uploading these, I missed a lot of this due to work so catching up this way is lovely. I do miss the chat though!
This is like the tng episode where they get the 80s comedian on the holodeck and Data and Riker are dumbfounded when they hear his jokes and don't understand them.
This stand up is now iconic
shepherds spy is a great joke, also limmy at 10:30 i love it when he goes super scot
"Yes, I'm undercover" would have been a better punchline than that contrived pun, imo
..fuhken YES man!....yae can even hear the polis screaming doon the rood tae the scheme in the background 😂
that tour de france joke made me chuckle
People look so much younger now. The average age of Roy's audience here was 24.
Roy is mega deep here. Earning every penny.
Nick Wier is the Catchphrase host who fell down the stairs in the first week of the job.
There was ne racism limmy. Ya take it back.
Jeez, that was painful Limmy. I thought your 80s barometer was decent
Love roy walker
He was way funnier on catchphrase.
You've definitely an intelligence, of a certain kind.
Thanks for explaining the joke I'm form 1988 and didn't have a clue.
Yep, I got the garage token thing. It's probably the first time I've ever thought about it since then. I remember my mum and dad having the tokens collected up. The set of glasses would have been some faux crystal chandeliers
Child of the 80s here, Esso wine glasses were made very cheaply and so thin that they were infamous for randomly shattering if you so much as breathed on them.
Great name BTM. Do you know if the Underground have rounded them all up now?
@@auntie_coviet8813 yes but they still find the horse-hair clogging the tracks
You had to drive to the moon and back to get the video recorder
lol@@scottjackson2196
Not gonna lie, the shepherd spy gag made me chuckle.
I appreciate your honesty.
There was a couple of times where Limmy's face seemed to almost say, "I'll give you that one, it was quite good."
That joke dates back to the 50s and Spike Milligan in the Goon Show
I can't believe it took a stoner vampire to explain to me what the f*** he'd said, but here we are.
Cheers, big man 🙂
@@tigermatty Still a decent joke.
I love this - I do what limmy is doing here in my own time - so to see this is just gold. Old tv man. Fuck.
Green Shield Stamps
Limmy making a spectacle of himself
When limmy laughs you know it's a banger.
Roy Walker Sips ikr.
Roy Walker allegedly in his mid-40's here
The shepherd spy one got me
Ray Walker was/is a great stand-up, but to be fair, the shepherd spy joke is not original. It was nicked from the 50s radio show The Goons and only very slightly altered.
I think the joke would have been better if he'd said 'crystal glasses'
You’ll have to let him know, I’m sure it’s been bothering him ever since
It would be better if people understood it....which they would've when it was aired.
Tumblers...then it would have tumbled!
If you’re no laughin’ it’s your fault.
I remember my mom waiting 8 months for some glasses from Tokyo!
Esso filling stations were giving away free wine glasses for petrol points.
To be fair, cheesy topical jokes do tend to go off over the course of 36 years.
Some fucking air of menace Roy Walker has there 😳
Stare on him like a Bosnian war criminal.
Roy looks like Richard Gere here
Sips left the dad garage
His jokes were as old as the hills even back then
A 'set of' glasses not a pair of glasses, complicated
(A dash here and there, it depends what's under the bonnet 🤔🚗) it will probably be a Tea's Made)
I understand limmy more than i understand these jokes
He won't admit, but limmys chimp brain liked the butchers joke!
Ahhh humour really is timeless, isn’t it
RIIIIIIIIIIGHT!
bloody hell, 73.9k subs!
shepherd spy
In the early eighties, Roy Walker had a really deadpan delivery - almost like Father Stone from ‘Father Ted’.
“People often say to me… what are you doing in my garden?”
Limmy showing he doesn’t get it too is helping a lot lol
Search 'petrol stations collect coins 70s' and you'll get the answer. It's really that simple.
Fucking hilarious man … Roy Walker is a genius 😂
This guy was one of the reasons heroin spread so fast in the 80's
The telegraph pole bit was decent
He created the Catchphrase pictures on MS Paint according to Wikipedia
Why do you keep stopping it?
@VeronicasMidget
Thanks Limmy, Roys joke has been bugging me ever since I first heard it in 1987. It's nice to finally get closure.
For years I felt that way about much of 'this morning with Richard not Judy' (Lee & Herring).
Someone should show Limmy the clip of the guy that disney understand that a kilogramme of feathers is the same as a kilogramme of steel. I wonder how long it'll take him to get that one, if at all? 🤔
Yeah so it's so fuel efficient that you wouldn't get those points to get some drinking vessels, really really funny
I wish i'd gotten that joke
Shepherd's Pie. Shepherds Pie. ShepherdsPie. ShepherdSpy. Shepherd Spy.
Greensheild stamps. You got stamps for every gallon you purchased. If the car does 500 mpg it would take 20 years to get enough stamps for a set of drinking glasses. That's the joke. It only made sense when greenisheild stamps were a thing.
Never understood the clues on 321, they were insane!
Was Limmy referring to sips the yogscast streamer?
Jesus wept, fuel points to get 'free gifts', what teh feck...help ma boab!!
Say what you see. If you see it, say it!
10 years to get a set of glasses. Because you used to get tickets every time you put petrol in, save enough tickets, get a free set of glasses.
Scotland has brought us still Still Game, Billy Connolly, Burnistoun, Karen Dumbar, Scot Squad, Chewin the Fat, Rab C Nesbitt and Limmy. Proud to be Scottish! 😂
Don’t forget the Krankies!
I've got some green shield stamps if you want them.
no more tears shampoo?
I have a sneaking suspicion that a producer friend of Roy's got him a presenter gig, simply to get him off the comedy circuit.
Context. My brain hurts
Quitting comedy was a wise move, chap is pure twitch
Shepherd’s Pie 😅
1:44 It's called the Go-shiba . . .
Now i drove the car, and I wasnt the Queen of anything after it
(First joke that came to mind when Limmy freezed it)
Better joke ?
6:20 - it's cos he's so old that Baby Shampoo is the only kind that won't destroy his hair
He's like Norm MacDonald
I was working in Warner hotels and he was there doing a show. Anyway, I thought he was a taxi driver
These jokes feel like they were ENCODED so that they could only be understood at that specific point in time.
If you tried doing that on purpose it'd be extremely hard!
....fuhken YES man!!!...
