Queen's Escape was inspired by the 4 years the Belgian royal family stayed at Château de La Tuilerie during WWII. In particular, it is for the Queen. The king took shelter at a different location in France. We've named each of our guest rooms after great Queens of the past and present from around the world. Margrethe, Eleanor, Catherine, Himiko, Cleopatra, and soon our bridal suite will be ready in honor of Queen Elizabeth II.
With it's sprawling green meadows, 100-year-old trees, and historic location in the small medieval town of Gluges, the 200-year-old château is truly an escape. With 5 guest rooms to rent and a stunning Orangery, we look forward to welcoming you for a visit or to host your wedding or event.

I have a good trick for you when shopping. I also live rural and find that taking a 'cooler' with me to pack frozen items will save you all of this grief. It is important to take a good list with you, and then shop for the frozen items last, and then put them into your 'cooler' in your vehicle. This will save all of the turmoil you had to endure.... and make frozen things stay frozen. Some people also choose to line the bottom with a sheet of ice....it will stay cold longer. Love you guys.

I do the same. My cooler has wheels with a collapsible handle which makes it easy to roll into the house when full. It collapses when not in use which allows me to store it in my car without taking up much room when not in use. Bulk shopping is 1/2 hour away. I put frozen freezer packs in it. Works well.

Get a cooler and use a 9”X12” cake pan ..fill it with water and put into freezer overnight. The next day slip the ice out of the cake pan into a plastic garbage bag and place in the bottom of the cooler. Your meat and frozen items will stay cold for your drive home!

Make croissant bread pudding with the crushed dough packets. Just put 1 in a greased dish. Sprinkle in any fruit of your choice. Sprinkle cinamon sugar ontop of the fruit. Top with the other packet of crushed dough. Sprinkle that with cinnamon sugar. Beat 2 eggs and 1 cup milk together and pour over. Bake for 30 min in a 180 deree Celsius oven. Enjoy with cream or ice cream. 😊😊🎉

How absolutely lovely the music was. The setting was perfect. What a wonderful way to get to know your neighbors in the area. Karen leave your sewing machine threaded so when you need to change the thread you can use the previous thread as a guide. I sew occasionally so this helps me not miss any little steps in the threading

I promise you the easiest thing you can do is place used cardboard (all those amazon boxes) one little layer, on top of the weeded areas and cover with mulch or bark. You don't have to be precise or picky about what cardboard you use and all the weeds do not have to be pulled. Leave 2-3 inches around any plant base and then mulch on top 3-4 inches deep. The water will go through and as the cardboard breaks down you are feeding your flower bed. In the spring you turn all this over with some manure and plant your new plants and repeat. You will be amazed at the lack of weeds and how your flowers will grow everywhere the cardboard is. We have an acre and have done this around all the edges of our property and now I hardly weed. We replace the cardboard and new mulch every 3-4 years. The panicle hydrangeas are as tall as our house and glorious, blooms to decorate the house with every week all summer. Wish I had started doing this years ago. I'm just itching to get my hands on your flower beds....in a kind non threatening way of course! I know that your time is precious and you just don't have time for everything but this will save you time, promise :) Maybe just try a little area. I would do it for you if I wasn't in Oregon!

Stop being in Oregon. Be here. 😊😂😂 I have been saving boxes the past many months to do just what you explain. I have questions: Does it matter what time of year you do this? Isabella just weeded so I want to go ahead and get some cover down. What do I do when I want to plant roses? Pull up the cardboard? You say you turn ‘all this’ over with manure - all what? The mulch? Do I have to pull up the boxes to mulch? I have a book. I’ll consult that too, but just thought to ask you since you know a lot. ❤️

I retire in a few years and then I will visit! By then you will have won the war of the weeds and I will have to help iron linens or some such!!
You can start now. Pull any tape off the boxes, flatten and lay flat. Cover with mulch, hay, grass clippings and water. By March much of the cardboard will have decomposed. Add an inch or two or manure and any other amendments needed. Sand or peet moss if clumpy clay soil are good. Grass clippings are free and good compost. When it is dry enough roto till under. You can do by hand but WHY? Then you are set to plant whatever you want. Place more card board down and mulch or bark on the top for summer. After a couple of years your soil will grow anything.
If you need to plant before spring, like roses (do you have knock out roses there (or amazon) they are so easy and bloom like crazy. Fertilize a few times a year Not cut roses but lovely bushes) just pull back the card board and put it back after.
Remember to leave a couple inches around each plant. Same with bulbs. They may male it thru tge cardboard by spring but I would leave room.
Have fun!!!! See you someday. If you have not learned how to sew I would rather sew then press linens.....just saying
Also ask anytime. Gardening can be hard or not so hard and plants are expensive. .

You guys never cease to amaze me with your energy & ideas! You are doing great! Idea: if you can find someone with a wood chipper (broyeur de branches) (probably an industrial sized one, not a domestic one) to chip up the fallen branches then mulch the peony beds thickly with the wood chips. A good, thick layer. This will not only keep the weeds down but also keep the beds looking tidy, cut down on weeding and will keep moisture in. As the chips rot, they will also nourish the plants and soil. Virtuous circle stuff! It works really well for us over here on les Causses!

Karen and Bo, your first event was a huge success.
That was a huge branch that fell. More firewood for you. It is a good thing it is away from the chateau. Please don't work under that branch, it is too dangerous.
I hope you get rid of those hornets. They are very scary. I used to make bread from scratch like my mom. I stopped when my husband called to his family to tell them as I worked all day for nine loaves of bread and a pan of buns to end up with only 1 loaf to ourselves. I never liked those bread makers, but I have family who like them.
    Congrats on your METRO membership.
That cardboard method works really well for weeds. Give it a try.❤

@queensescape True! You often find them around the guttering or the edge of the roof/rooftiles. They could be anywhere of course. I am afraid that they need to be 'exterminated'. To get an 'expert' in will cost you a fortune. You could always check with the local council and see if they give advice on hornests nests removal and see if this sort of removal is included in your local taxes. You can ask for advice and see what they say.

Cover the garden beds with cardboard (shipping boxes) and then spread mulch (bark bits) over that to suppress the weeds. It will keep the beds neat, tidy and weed free for awhile. Also think about planting perennials that flower, this way you won't have to fuss with the garden beds annually.

Your generosity shines through with the concert! Some friendly thoughts, maybe search for a fabric backdrop screen you can move around until you're on your way with completed renovations. In the future maybe ask the talented musicians if they would like to invite their followers, & limit the guests to a smaller amount. The person giving the lecture/holding the book, during the concert, that would be a definite, no thank you moment in the future. It spoils the mood, takes the spotlight away from the musicians. Maybe consider searching for a local tradesman who could build benches for lining the walls, outside as well. Maybe even build a slightly elevated stage for them. I think most guests would be happy to enjoy your homemade muffins vs. frozen anything. Reduce the footprint of the flower bed, plant bushes which maintain its leaves, toss out grass seed. It is much easier to mow lawn than weed! Keep up the good work! Everyone is amazing!

Regarding hornets you can contact a beekeeper for advice. I know for bee swarms it is often free when they remove the nest.
Or go see the fire department in your village (but not by phone otherwise you will be directed to the central switchboard which only responds to emergencies)
As you will receive from the public, if you want to be sure of being in the safety and insurance rules, the firefighters will tell you what needs to be improved but in addition they will know where the water taps and/or the water tanks, in case of fire.
You are doing an excellent job on all levels.
