We're from New Zealand, but only within the past year did Blue Spring Putaruru even come on our radar. Rotorua is one of the most common tourist spots, as locals we haven't spent too much time there in recent years, the Blue Springs are a day trip walk from Rotorua so seem to have gained popularity.
According to local tourism sites in New Zealand.... The Blue Spring at Te Waihou Walkway is internationally acclaimed with water so pure it supplies around 60% of New Zealand’s bottled water.
The walk to the springs follows a track alongside the Waihou River, through wetlands, across rolling pastoral land and features views of small waterfalls, native bush and the famous Blue Spring with glimpses of trout along the way.
The Blue Spring walk takes about one and a half hours each way, starting near Putaruru. There is also a shorter walk, 15 minutes each way, to the Blue Spring, accessed from nearby Leslie Road.
We didn't have time to do the full Te Waihou Walkway, about 4.7km either direction, so just did the shorter trip this time. But 100% already planning the chance to go back and walk the full thing - it was beautiful!

Last week, we just had a stopover at Blue Spring on our way to Rotorua. So, beautiful. ❤👍🤗 We got some sunshine when we were there, though most of that day was raining.

Gosh that water is so clear, I'm from the the Bay, Whakatane..Braemar springs is beautiful, clear water but very chilly and we can swim there in the summer.. awesome spot.

We’ve been to The Mount twice on cruise stops. But we said we would definitely stay and enjoy for longer when we can come on a road trip.

It's been dull and raining all weekend and the beginning of this week so far, typical start to a Scottish summer. So I needed to see something bright and beautiful again. Cue you guys. We're promised 27 degrees on Thursday though so we'll see.

Those blue springs are as beautiful as your eyes Daneger (:p)... It's now one place I want to visit. The springs of course and a birthday trip for my husband. His favorite color is blue (supports Man City). Usually this cold time of year we would be in our 2nd home Thailand. But due to covid we're fortunate to be kiwi citizens living here during the 2020 pandemic. When I saw the blueness (the water) it brought a tear to my eye. My last gold fish Judy (of 2) died sometime during the night. The previous one Captain Bung Eye died months ago and I put him in a nice read container in the freezer. I was going to do what people normally do... but fish belong in water. So I'm going to put them both in the water together in a local river to become the circle of life again. Thanks for making this vlog to inspire me to do so and visit another part of beautiful Aoteroa/New Zealand. Nga mihi nui

If you get time,try to get to Hamurana Springs,on the other side of Lake Rotorua,it's a river just like that,but crystal clear,plus the odd golf ball,i think there is a cafe there as well.

Tauranga is one of my favourite places in the north island...used to be able to get a bus for $1.00 there and back again from Auckland...that bus has since gone out of business
Wow thats good value!! Not surprised its gone out of business considering the petrol prices now haha
There is another bus that gives super cheap prices. Cost me $10 from Auckland airport to Hamilton last year - they are still operating - you have to be in early to get the cheap seats

Cool to see you in my home city and you guys back home. The springs are Tapu (sacred) and the swimming was not allowed so those tourists that were swimming were harming the enviroment and offending local Maori iwi as it is a Sacred treasure.

There are a lot of great swimming holes in the south waikato my favourite was undies down near te waotu just out of Tokoroa.
A bit too chily to swim at the moment but we'll remember that for when summer rolls around!
