Hey Mike. Awesome explanation of how this is done without the factory console. We'll forward our customers who don't have one to this great resource you've made.
Thanks for all the great details on the shelf build. I ordered a 2021 Transit and was told the shelf you had to pay extra for was a big shelf, not just the cubbies so I didn't order it cause I wanted the little cubbies above the visors and to build my own "big" shelf. I wasn't happy when my van arrived with no cubbies above visors😩. It was really hard to get any good details or answers to questions when placing my Transit order but even with missing out on a few things that would have been nice to have from the factory, I'm just thankful I got it in a timely manner as I know a lot of people are still waiting for theirs to arrive. Now, with your awesome video I can get a shelf built without having to do a bunch of figuring. Thanks so much for all the measurements, super kind of you to share all your knowledge and hard work.
Great job Mike! Your very detailed videos are an incredible help for people like me who just bought a Transit and will be starting their build out soon. Thanks for taking the time to do it.
Nice van build, I am in California as well and am building a 2016 Ford Transit passanger van myself and am watching all your vids for cool ideas.... : )
Great video. But i have a question. Why couldn’t you just not remove the headliner at all, and just cut out the area where you put the brackets up and attach the brackets that way. Or is there a way to just attach brackets right over the headliner!
Hey Mike - super helpful, thank you. Just curious if you were worried about the part that says airbag? I've been nervous to modify this out of fear of messing up my van's airbags. Did you read anything about that?
Mike spent a few years working in facilities maintenance in retail, but a lot of the van-specific work he has learned on the fly online from other UA-camrs, blogs, etc!
We aren’t sure if they are necessary, we could probably get rid of them but then we would have to build into the area where they are, so we just built around them. The blocks also each have a hole that we plan to use to put up a tension rod for a partition curtain between the cab and living space.
@@britandmike Sounds like you have a plan to at least make them a bit useful! I wanna take mine out in the future but they do look like a pretty complex shape to fill and have look nice. I’ll have to pull mine now that I know they are easy to get out then play around with some cardboard templates! Thank you guys!!!
I like it. Thanks for this. When I do mine I will install the shelf under the aluminum angle to hide it.

Wow. It looks even better than the Vancy.... Thank you for demystiying the removal of that ceiling. Great job. It will help us with our vanbuilt.
Thank you - we're glad it was helpful!
appreciate your attention to detail in describing operation to us!
Thanks for watching Jack!

Thanks, this was exactly the video I wanted!

I'm curious, what is Mike's background that he's so well-versed at all this construction?

I’m having trouble drilling new holes through the brackets. What type of bit did you use?
We need this! How did you figure out the angle for the spacers?
They're flat!
Curious what size of L brackets you used if you can remember? Ordering all my material online and don’t want to short myself.
Sub'd and liked your vids : )
thank you for watching!
did you consider cutting the headliner out above the top of the shelf? seems like a lot of wasted space back there
No, we didn't think about doing that. We did put insulation up there though.
What is the purpose of the foam blocks and why not ditch them permanently?

What is the inside dimensions of this shelf
Approximately 50.5” wide and 21” deep at the deepest part (the inside corners of the visors)
Also the opening at the front center is about 10” and at the narrowest point inward (toward the visors) it’s about 2.5”
