- You can finally reach the end of the official campaign with HL:A NoVR! In this video you can also see some of the new features I've been working on, like weapon upgrades and the gravity gloves. Expect a first full release in the near future.

I'm physically incapable of using VR, my eyes can't handle it and it gives me intense migraines, so this is a blessing, I can finally play this game 4 years later. You're doing a massive service to those of us who can't physically use VR, thank you!!

Same. Even though I do have an Oculus Quest 2, Steam isn’t really supported on it, and the only way you could play this game on it is through some long and complicated process that ends up giving you a laggy experience anyway.
@@chewy99. no, the setup process is easy and gameplay is smooth.
I have quest 2 and laptop with 3060. Played alyx and it's mods for 50hrs.
Have you tried to use virtual desktop?

@@chewy99. It's better than oculus link both wired and unwired in HL:A because oculus link api uses about extra 1gb of VRAM. You'll get more fps and less freezes. Also the picture is brighter and more stable when streaming via VD. You can also use VD connected by wire. Just make sure that your cable is at least 1gbps fast, but I prefer unwired experience Try it, could work.
@@chewy99. Yes! I use Virtual Desktop as well and there is absolutely no better experience. However, I finished the game with the cable plugged as well my first run and it worked just fine as long as I set the proper settings on the game graphics. Keep in mind that just as any other game, if you set the settings for too high and your PC doesn't support it it obviously will lag/stutter.
Something cool what you could add is the hands for reloading animations and for the guns to look less floaty

I think now we just need to put that feeling that the character is moving, maybe putting a swing on the weapon?
I think you just only need to add head bobbing and weapon sway animation and it's probably gonna looking perfect

As much as i understand that vr is expensive, you definitely should not play the game like this. Even if enemies are added for difficulty, itll still feel half baked

@@chewy99. yes it is easier in non vr. Thats what they found out when playtesting the game. Putting half life 2 amounts of enemies didnt work

I'm excited to finally be able to play this game. It might not be the intended way, but I never planned to buy a VR headset, so it's either this or nothing. Thank you for your hard work. I imagine this was no easy task.
It'd be cool to have a more "hybrid" control scheme, though. Like maybe holding down one mouse button to engage in the more tricky motion mechanics instead of straight out mapping them to keys? I don't know if that's possible, and bare in mind I'm not even sure how the actual game works since I've only seen footage of it lol

@@TheDutchGhost its unbelievable how moronic and out of touch VR fanboys are, they can't possibly fathom that most people live paycheck to paycheck and simply cannot afford an expensive VR headset so they can "truly" experience a single video game. Levels of dellusion, pettiness and privilege I rarely encounter. I'm also personally unfit to use VR, my brain can't handle it and it gives me intense occular migraines, I was told by some of these idiots that I should just watch playthroughs instead, they're that fucking stupid
chapter titles nice little detail, i've been wondering is it possible to replace HL:A screen damage indicator in to something like in HL1/HL2? Valve did this hl:a damage screen overlay really ugly for nonvr mode :(

Awesome! Downloaded your build just yesterday. Didn´t see that one coming. Just a question: I tried it first to play with Controller. It works but I can´t see sometimes the crossair. Is it recommend to play this with M&K? As I woke up in the Jail Transporter after the accident I couldn´t get the headset from that robot flying in front of the car. After some attempts I suddenly went out of the car and had free cam enabled without forcing it. Maybe I am a bit dum but how to pick up that damn headset? Btw awesome mod and work you have done. Like always your releases. Thank you for your work! Sub earned.

*** update *** for me the mod cause the crash at chapter 3. Im useing the file checker on steam. Its says 13 or may 16 files are cannot check. Its will be downloaded again. After this no crash when my pc start load the next zone behind the door. I have played your mod and enjoyed it by far. I managed to go until chapter 6 for now. Upon playing this, I've noticed that the upgrade only has a few of them. I trust you planned on adding all the upgrade later on the game.

Everyone can buy it, you don't need to have a VR set for that.
How to use that health machine?
bro I have a problem? when prologue end (Alix gets knocked out in the elevator) after loading I have a valve logo picture and I can not do anything. I already replayed this level twice, it did not help, what can I do?

How to bring up the console I can't access prefs or interface, says only in pause menu
Launch with "-console" parameter (under "Launch options in Steam"). Then when you're in game, press ";" (the one under esc) to bring up the console.

How to use multitool?
Steamvr failed inirialization with error code VRInitError_Init_PathRegistryNotFound. Installation path not be located (110) Please install VR !! so this mod is fuckt up for no steam versions
Any way to change the mouse sensitivity? Other than that, this is absolutely amazing.
One other thing: my laptop doesn't have a numpad, so I can't use the upgrade stations currently.

There's already a crosshair, but I'll change it in the future. You can already play with the official Steam Deck layout, but support for other controllers will be added soon too

Yes, you need to have the base game.
- non-vr working weapon upgrade with preset commands binded to numpad
- vr weapons converted in to non-vr weapons in a way that weapons were used in all other half-life games
- using HL:A medkit in a classic way
- vr 3d puzzles just turned in to simple "press the button" like it were in classic HL (press the button to open door)
- and spoiler warning in the video title for people who don't know the plot already

@@gb_2_ I found the file you replaced with SMG data and will fix it myself... I really appreciate the mod but please don't change things from the game itself, especially in a way that no one asks for and a way that is irrelevant to playing it without VR. We all just want Half Life: Alyx but without VR, we don't want the game changed in unnecessary ways (only the parts needed to make it work without VR of course).
@@samtt4489 Hey, I didn't do it on purpose. I wasn't aware that the ordinals are using the same AR2 weapon scripts as the player.
@@gb_2_ ah alright man, no worries. Well on the bright side, after several hours of research and attempts (VPKs were a nightmare!), I learnt how to mod Alyx, and fixed the issue myself anyway haha. Thanks again for all your work on the NoVR mod!

Agreed. Since everything was originally designed for VR motion controllers, this basically cuts out 90% of the gameplay.

Yeah, there were viewmodel animations I could use for the proper one. But an animator is working on it

How seemless is this experience? Does playing it still feel handicapped compared to, say half life 2?
Depends what you mean by "handicapped". The movement is still a bit floaty, there is no bobbing, no weapon sway etc., so it doesn't feel as good as in HL2, but the modders are working on that. As for the game itself, well, it's still the same game. It will never play like HL2 because it was built around VR, so there will always be small locations, limited enemy variety, few combat encounters compared to HL2, no vehicles etc.

This guy has been working for only 3 weeks and got this far, I think it pretty much proves that SoMNst's mod is a scam and he hasn't released anything because there's nothing to release
I'm sure there's SOMETHING to release as I doubt he somehow faked the footage he has, and in fairness his mod does look less janky as it has proper weapon animations and you can interact manually with drawers, doors, etc but yes it's strange that he hasn't released ANYTHING. I imagine he's taking his time and trying to juice YT viewers in the meantime, I really lost hope in it ever releasing and this mod will probably be more polished than SoMNst's within a few months (or weeks at this pace lol).

I wouldn't say scam just yet. He simply lost motivation sadly... I hope GB_2's mod will motivate him to continue, because SoMNst's is the one I'd rather play - however GB_2 is actively developing it and has gotten the game to the Vault + Gravity Gloves are working (as I've seen from the Premier) - so I believe that a couple of tweaks and fixes, and we'll have an awesome non-vr experience.
tl;dr
I would much rather play the Half-Life:Amnesia mod than this, but this one seems infinitely more promising - shame that SoMNst lost motivation

@GoTi4No That's true but it doesn't make it a scam lol, it's just a different way of going about things and really isn't that bad of an idea when you're working on a private project and not something everyone can access at any point in its development like this one.

This is actually so good that I might consider buying the game so I can play it like this. I just think that there should be some weapon animations, along with sprinting, and view bobbing.

Looks nice, but viewmodels look... depressing. It would be nice to have some animations to 'em when moving, jumping etc. and see Alyx's hand properly holding 'em.

This makes hl alyx worth $20 when it's on sale. I hate the lack of variety when it comes to weapons and npcs. Some of the levels make me really claustrophobic. The lack of light and having to use the flashlight made it anoying. It was so bad that sometimes I used noclip just so I don't get nausea. I hate that i had to use shift to go faster i got so used to it that I used it in cs2 which did the opposite. Dont' expect a usual hl game. What I liked most about this was the graphics and physics. Just like with Black Mesa and source engine I hope to experience HL2 with hl alyx graphics.

It looks like this removes 90% of gameplay, but hey, if that what it takes for people without VR to play, I'm happy for them.
Watched VR streams crying, but didn't spot anything unique to VR. At its current state VR is no no for action games.
@@dnkreative It's hard to get right game feel from a video, but for vr games it's especially weird (at least for me). Like, sometimes they look far more interesting in the video than they're to actually play, other times - it's the opposite.
Alyx actually didn't do anything completely new in vr when it came out, but it took the things other games do and polished them to near perfection. The devil's in the details I guess.
Really sad that the previous attempt of no vr mod was abandoned. Looked way better than this one, hope this mod is going to improve.
If you mean Somnst's mod, then that wasn't abandoned, just taking a VERY long time. Somnst basically decided to make the mod as good as polished as possible even during development. Yeah it looks great, but it's also nowhere near finished. The author of this mod decided to make the game playable ASAP first and then iterate on the development with improvements and polish. It will absolutely get better, this is still WIP, basically just the first goalpost (game playable from start to finish).
@@SMJSmoK VERY long time means it never comes out I guess, he deleted public discord, stopped making patreon posts, there’s basically zero communication. He should have released at least a patreon demo, I’d even pay for this if he did so.
@@frispy Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if it never got released. But he does communicate in YT comments, so it's not like there's complete radio silence. Just the last update video is almost a year old now lol.

This is cool. I've been playing VR since the occulus dev kit 2, and I have to say VR is a gimmick. I'm on my feet enough at work, I don't feel like coming home and standing while I play games. Although Alyx in VR was really cool the first time I played. Maybe it's just me, but before I got my headsets and during the infantile stage of the experience, it was awesome. 7 years later it's gotten very bland and in my opinion will never match the quality of normal games.
I've been playing VR since 2017. Still loving it. Also when I come home from work, I just play VR sitting every time. You don't have to stand up and physically turn for most games. It's true that most games are bland or lack depth since there isn't anywhere near enough funding behind VR games since it is a niche market that large developers don't want to touch. It's also much harder to develop VR games compared to standard ones. We basically rely on indie devs to experiment and that's about it for the rest of the VR industry.
