Awesome bike! Nice job on the build! I'm 60 years old now and your video brings back a lot of memories for me. My best friend was a pro racer in the 80's and one of the fastest open class riders I've ever seen. When I first started riding 500's I bought a brand new 1985 KX 500. The 85 CR 500 and the 85 KX 500 were probably the most powerful production 500's ever made. The stock KX 500 was very difficult to race. Way too much power in the low end of the power band and not enough everywhere else. Fortunately a good porting job completely solved that problem. she was a ripper! My favorite starting technique for big bores was to put the bike in gear, rock the bike forward and then back, once is enough, put the bike in neutral and kick. I could start any 500 1st or 2nd kick hot or cold doing this. Basically when you do this the piston moves a little and sucks a little gas in the cylinder. Nice video.
Thanks! Cylinder is bored 1,5 mm over stock with new piston and rings. Boyesen reeds. And a complete new ignition system. Pro circuit pipe and dep silencer😀
@@TopRevs Hehe I found it starts very easy really plus it is new of course very good compression can you tell me how to look for that ignition? I speak Spanish I am using translator I thank you
How long did it usually take to start with the old ignition system on really cold mornings? Did it take longer when it hadn't been used for several days? Did it need much choke?
@@robinprice4877 It was almost impossible to start. It ran normal when it first started though. But often needed 10-25 kicks. Sometimes it wouldn’t start at all
Both my '88 and my '96 will start on the first kick if done properly. If it doesnt fire after 2 kicks, it cold fouled the plug. It fires right up after a quick swap.
#1 dirt bike in history.
Легенда мотокросса всех времён ,самое лучшее что было создано в мотокроcсе -это Honda -CR500R !!!!!!

@@TopRevs What ignition did you use? I've heard of a lot of problems with ignitions in those years.
@@agustinbrescia5637 Yes the bike was almost impossible to start with the original ignition system. So i bought Electrex World ignition system.
