Invaluable information, especially feeling the groove and movement, angled like watching our own hands. Thank you Arthur. Your book is by far the best on Boogie Woogie that I've studied.
I purchased the book and have been using it now for a few weeks. It is awesome! I love it! I really like the helpful recordings for the sections. They give you a really great reference to the sound of all the licks.
Great vid. I find myself almost thinking in my head that I'm overemphasizing beats 2 and 4 to an almost comical extent, but when I record and listen back I find it grooves very nicely. A friend of mine told me that his vocal instructor mentioned "overacting"... You may think you're overacting, but you're actually just doing it right.
Hey, thanks for the videos, finding them very helpful. Just wanted to ask what you do with the right hand besides licks, because if i'm not playing any licks I find that my improvisation only sounds decent when i'm using the minor blues scale. Would love it if you had a video more about how to improvise over a boogie line.
Thanks! Glad you are finding these helpful. I address this topic in the book, near the end. As far as making a video... I will have to think about it. It is a good idea, and I have several techniques that I use with my students to help them start improvising in a musical way. However, making variations on the licks is what you will hear in the majority of boogie and blues songs. The minor blues scale can work well for blues, but it must be used cautiously as a piano player because it can get old really quickly. (electric guitar doesn't have this problem haha). In the classic boogie style you rarely hear the minor blues scale being used though. So, I would say to get creative about using the licks in different ways and explore some different possibilities. Also see if you can figure out what someone is doing on a recording you like. hope this helps. I'm always available for private lessons too if you get stuck. Sorry I didn't see your comment earlier.
He already has. Watch his essential licks videos... I think that's lick 4--some kinda variation. The rest are fun turnarounds you can slow down and learn.
Thank you! Yes, the last bit is a bass pattern I teach here: www.schoolofboogie.com/monsterammons1 the RH licks are a combo of variations and things from the 8 licks, taught here: www.schoolofboogie.com/8licks
@@thearthurmigliazza Yes Thank you Arthur. I’m doing a lot with your book following your directions. Haven’t watched a lot of videos yet. For now I listen to old blues and boogie when I exercise which is 1 1/2 hours daily. Then to the piano. Usually 2-3 hours a day. But my absolute must at least 30 minutes a day at piano no matter what. That way it always turns into more. Occasionally I take one day of from actual piano practice. But never stop listening to music. That goes on from the time I get up until bedtime. The beauty of retirement and 77 years of age.
Were you eventually able to see the perks? I can copy and paste them here if you like. The perks are that you get access to all of the members only videos, like the old office hours videos, practice videos, and tutorial videos (which you can also request me to explain/ demonstrate your favorite song). You also get access to custom Arthur emoji (which are almost too small to see with the naked eye) and you also get priority response to comments.
@@brucejeric6701 Actually I found the page here: www.youtube.com/@thearthurmigliazza/membership On the left side as you scroll down, you will see a blue text that says "show perk info". Click on that to expand it. Also as you scroll down you will see all the content that I have created for members-only.
@@thearthurmigliazza Yes I saw that to eventually and was able to look at lots of stuff. Very nice. I practiced that Gm slap and some other. Things. All so good!!! Thank you for all your help. I’m good now I fhink. Just have to keep my daily practice journey and work on one thing at a time and not get overwhelmed with all the material there is. That’s the hardest part for me.
