The Good & Bad Of Using A Mobility Scooter or ECV at Disney's Magic Kingdom

Come along with Juan Carlos and I as we bring his mother to Walt Disney World and The Magic Kingdom for the first time. This is also the 1st time I am using an ECV or Mobility Scooter to get around the Magic Kingdom. We ride the Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, It's A Small World and the People Mover. While on the People Mover we get a peak at the construction of the new TRON coaster and see Space Mountain with all the lights on! We dine at Crystal Palace where we get to meet Tigger, Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore & Piglet. We then meet Mikey Mouse & Minnie Mouse before indulging in The Happily Ever After Dessert Party & Viewing of Fireworks.

Thank you for telling us about the Viewing Party Transfer Failure. Those are not cheap tickets and the guest in an ECV should be taken first and with a cast member. I had no idea you had to swim through the crown to reach the designated viewing area!

Thank you for doing this...I leave in two days and I am a little nervous about using a scooter. Thank you for sending a letter to Disney. I agree that should never happen to someone in a wheelchair or the scooter.

@@GioandJC I'd love to know if Disney ever replied. Also, as someone with far more severe mobility issues now, I'd love to not be nervous. But I can only take a few steps at a time (standing window 2 to 4 min). I've watched a few videos now, and I can't spot anywhere to put a cane on the scooter (and without it, I would be 100% trapped in my chair).
Prior to an arterial bypass on my leg (which has been a nightmare coming back from, with extensive neuropathy & numerous issues) I used to have mobility issues similar to yours. I have a collapsing spine with bone on bone, bone on nerve. I was able to push myself to do more, but now if I push, I will go down on the spot, then be bedridden for days. I'm SO happy you don't have this issue. But the more I see, the more I question how (not if) I'll be able to get to my beloved Disney!
@@ellenw391 Hello Ellen. We were just back at Disney last week with my mother and she also needs a cane to stand and walk with. She was able to place the cane on the scooter by putting it between her legs on the floorboard of the scooter. We also attached a bag to the back of the scooter that we could secure the cane. Her cane also collapses easily to make it shorter which made it easier for her to transport while driving the scooter. As for Disney, the gave us a full refund for the Desert Party disaster. Again, Disney has done a great job in making their parks and resorts friendly to those with mobility issues. Hope this helps.

I suffer from plantar fasciitis. I am going to need to rent one. My husband is insensitive of my condition and looks at me like I am being lazy. If I could walk around the whole park I would. I used to be an active 34 year old until I started as a nurse last year. This allowed me to get this condition. I am looking into renting a scooter so I can have a good time with our kid at Disney land.
A scooter will be very beneficial for you. Gio has had Plantar Fasciitis in the past and knows that pain! Enjoy your visit to Disney.
Thank you for this video! I did notice that in a lot of places inside, you did not have your scooters. I have problems walking or standing at all, so will I be able to take my scooter indoors, restaurants, gift shops...etc? I'm renting my scooter from one of the outside affiliated places, so I have it to get to and from my hotel in the Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Ayesha, thank you for watching. We didn't take our scooters into every place because we can both stand up and walk a short distance. However, from what I saw, everyplace has the ability to take the scooter inside the queue lines, shops and restaurants, so you will be fine.
Yes!!! You can take your scooter inside every store, restaurant, and inside almost every attraction up to the boarding area to physically get on the boat, buggy, or roller coaster train. My beloved girlfriend battled cancer for 9 years before passing away in 2020 and we were able to enjoy her last vacation throughly with a scooter. There was virtually nothing we couldn’t experience or get into with the scooter.
I was a little unhappy with the way we were lead to the viewing area after a dessert party too. By the time we got there the area was packed with people are there was very little regard if we could see or not. Were you able to have your ECV in the viewing area?
They allowed us to bring our ECV's into the designated area. They did not have a specific place for wheelchairs or ECV's within the viewing area. We are able bodied enough that we could stand up during the show but if we weren't it would have been very difficult to see the show. Thank you for watching.
Greetings Geo, You know WDW is endurance vacation. Since you used an ECV for this trip, how was your energy level at the end of the day?
Hello Vincent. You present an interesting question and after thinking about it here is my answer. Yes, a trip to WDW is certainly exhausting when walking. As for my energy level at the end of the day using an ECV I can say it was a different type of exhaustion. When driving the ECV I found it to be a little mentally tiring because you are constantly trying to avoid other people. Especially those not paying attention who walk directly in front of you. So, even though you are seated for the majority of the time, it is equally tiring in a different way.

With2 scooters do you think the wait for Disney transportation is difficult?
We only used the Monorail. We had to wait for one additional monorail because there were too many other guests with mobility scooters and wheelchairs in front of ud, but it didn't take long. I'm not sure how many scooters can go on a bus. Thank you for watching.
I know this was prepandemic but where do you put the ECVs when u get in the lines for each ride?
Most of the queue lines at Disney can handle the ECV being driven through it. When you board the ride a cast member will then move your ECV to the exit and it is there waiting for you when you exit. It's very simple.

@@tkedgesocialgourmetgaming853 You are welcome. She will be fine. It was my mother in-law's 1st time using one and after a few minutes she was fine. However, be sure to keep an eye out for other people when in the park because our experience is that people don't pay attention and they just walk right in front of you when moving. I think because ECV's are so quiet and in general people are distracted by stuff when in the theme parks.
I really wish that people would not just stop as the crowd is pushing everyone. It's very stressful on a scooter in a crowd. I actually ran into my friend's heel and made her bleed. I felt so bad. It looks like it wasn't so bad at the time you went.
do you park the scooter to get on rides
Some ride you need to park the scooter and transfer to the ride by walking a short distance. Other ride you drive your scooter directly to the entrance and the cast member (employee) moves the scooter to the rides exit. Disney does a great job with mobility challenged guests.

Where do you put the scooter when you go on haunted mansion?
If you can walk a little bit, you can park it outside and experience the Queue Line and the two rooms before getting on the ride.. If you can only walk a short distance, a Cast member will take you in the exit and you will board the ride there. You do not get to experience the two rooms where you walk through if you enter this way. They will keep the Scooter for you right next to the exit as you get off.
So my mom can't step up, so can she use the wheelchair accesible one even if she doesn't have her wheelchair with her?
I am not sure what you are referencing in this question. Can you please be more specific and I will do my best to answer.
@@GioandJC so my moms favorite ride is its a small world and i think you have to step down to get in, her problem would be stepping back up to get out.
@@lorilorena2777 The good news on It's A Small World is that they have a boat that you can roll a wheel chair onto and secure it in place. So she would not have to get out of the chair if she is unable to step down or up. They have the same option on Jungle Cruise!
