- What is the ideal size of seed yam required to give optimal yield when planting yams in sacks? This is a pertinent question many people ask as regards yam farming. This video is an experimental set-up that tries to address the subject matter. Happy viewing!
I'm a yam farmer. I really appreciate these information.
ernestly waiting for this result, well done sir
Great work! I think that the weight of the seedling as well as the right soil composition will give us larger tubers, but let's wait for the experiment.
Thanks for sharing.
The result of this experiment will help a lot. Thank you for your videos.
Thank you👌🏽God Bless
You are a blessing. May God bless your work.
Great research questions...
Thank you very much..
This very interesting, let's wait and see outcomes God willing.
🎉😊
I planted the same size as batch one. I mixed sand, charcoal and sawdust with chicken manure to use in the sack. I will record my findings and send to you
Fantastic. That would be nice! 🙂👏🏿👏🏿. Looking forward to your findings already.
Great idea Sir, more blessing from above.
I believed you mixed sawdust with the sand. Not pure sawdust. Mixture of sawdust and sand right?
Yes sir
Awesome!
Did you plant with sawdust in this experiment doctor?
Pure sawdust? No sir
@@Naturesheritagenetwork Oh okay. But I observed the soil is very light and not heavy or muddy!
@@Inubaye. Yes sir. I mixed manure, sawdust and soil in a certain proportion.
Well thought of sir. 👍. Can part of seed yam be consumed?
😂. I don't like to o eat my seeds
Lolz but it's not like it's poisonous.
* Can wood ash solution alone treat the mini sets.
* Do I have to treat the seeds that are not cut too.
Thanks for your response a in anticipation sir
@@oladipoolajumoke4091 *no 😁
*Yes
*Yes to prevent rot before germination
Thank you so much sir
What can one do to the yam seedling to prevent rodents (rats) from eating up the seedling
Thanks sir
Use traps or rodenticides
@@Naturesheritagenetwork will the rodenticide be applied on the yam seedling or what's the right application sir
@@nikeokunade9049 apply on bait like pieces of bread and scatter around the place u kept or planted the yams
@Naturesheritagenetwork Thanks very much sir
God bless
Please sir
Someone told me that digging holes is better than heaps or ridges for yam farming
They have their pros and cons
Sir Nature Heritage, I have a very important question. Assuming a yam has broken dormancy and it has sprouted to like 1ft or 2ft, Pls do we need to cut off the already sprout before planting ? or there is a specific height we need to reduce the sprout to ?,
I anticipate your response thanks.
Good question. I don't. I plant and allow it choose a new path for the new sprout, which it usually does on its own.
If I get you correctly, you mean the yam that already sprouts to like 1ft or 2ft , when planted will form a new sprouts and abandon the already spouts ?
Or are you saying that the already sprouts Yam [like 1ft to 2ft ] , after planted will continue to grow through its old sprouts ?
Because I have some yam I want to plant, and most have broken dormancy and even grown to like 1ft or 2ft, I'm not certain if I should cut the already grown sprouts before planting or just plant it like that ,
No. They will choose a path from the already sprouted vine. New sprout may come from another part of it or it can actually continue from that point. Either way, you win. My experience though
