  • The cost of procuring seed yams for yam farming is very high and takes up a large percentage of the total cost of production. To improve efficiency in seed yam production, sacks have been proposed for commercial seed yam production. Apart from using soil as the growing medium, are there other ways one can grow seed yams in sacks? These questions need answers and this video allows you to get some of these answers. There is also a 'CHALLENGE' at the end of the video. You will definitely find it interesting to participate in. Make sure to watch to the end.
    Happy viewing!

    My brother well-done!
    You're dishing out different methods that will help those that don't have enough soil in their garden. This is awesome.

    I use soil from garbage site called 'bola,' and from gutter in front of my house. I sieve out the stones, trash, nylon and pure water leather etc, then use the soil. The advantage is that such soil is reusable because of rich nutrients from dump.

    Sir I live in city, Lagos. I was thinking of starting yam planting in few sacks using sawdust. Thank you for encouraging me through one of your video. In future, I pray that I'll get more basic facts that will boost my desire of farm other crops like pepper, tomatoes, potatoes, etc. Thank you.

    Thank you for the video.
    How do you plant these yam sets in sacks such that the tubers does not shoot out from the sacks but grows vertically downward?
    Thanks.

    Thank you sir. Please I planted yam following your lectures. Mindset to get seedlings but I observed the head that I planted is growing long like a branch though leaves haven't started coming out but it's growing. Please is it normal because this is my first time?

    I have also seen in a video, where yam leaves are raised using aeroponics and was proposed that each leaf when planted is capable of producing full sized yams. How true can these be?

    Greetings Sir! I have seen videos on UA-cam of others who claim to have gotten Big Yams from Planting Mini Sets in Sack. Please how possible/realistic is that?

    • @Naturesheritagenetwork
      @Naturesheritagenetwork  2 місяці тому +2

      There are cases of outliers in situations like that. It is not usually the case but can occur. I have obtained big tubers from minisett when I planted in ridges in more than one occasion actually. But I haven't experienced that from sacks personally. Maybe I will but for now, I haven't really. And remember 'big tubers ' is a relative thing. What is big to you may be a small tuber to me. So let's do more research to validate such claims. Also do your research to validate what I have found in my own farms too🤗

    Hi Sir,
    If you cut mini setts before yam beaks dormancy, do they sprout? Cheers

    • @Naturesheritagenetwork
      @Naturesheritagenetwork  2 місяці тому

      Honestly I have not tried that. It's always advisable to use only tubers that have broken dormancy.

    When a mini set is left in the sack for like 6-9 month, can it further develop into a large yam tuber?
