On the matter of keeping it cool: the glue itself makes a decent seal. It wasn't uncommon to take a clay pot, fill it with glue, seal it with more glue and hang it in a well or bury it in the ground. Get it down a couple of feet, and it'll be sheltered from the heat. I don't know if the seal is sufficient to actually immerse it (in a stream or lake, for example), but might be worth a try!
Never even thought of using it as a sealant, thanks for the idea 👊🏻
Thanks for the awesome video on hideglue Jason! Real cool channel. Cant wait to watch more videos!
Why are you boiling it, the protein chain breaks down when you do. It's not going to be as strong as it could be and definitely would not back a bow with it. Use enough water to just cover it, stir occasionally and keep it from boiling until it starts thickening and cloudy and it should be very strong.
Well done, how do you clean your pot out? I'm assuming with hot soapy water?
Joe Deer Runner sand and water. It took several times but it did clean it. Thanks for watching
Thanks for the reply!
Lol. Title snafoo . thought it was some kind of treasure hunt at first. Thanks for clarification on vid itself.
How strong is this glue?Would it be strong enough to glue together knife scales?
Jake D Its more for temporary holds while you lash or bind something together with something stronger
@@Surefootsurvival So theoretically if I also pinned the handle it would work in place of an epoxy,at least in a pinch?
@@Surefootsurvival Or would pine tar be more useful in that application?
Jake D I would use it in a “PINCH”, sorry to say that modern technology is more superior then primitive. Primitive technology paved the way.
@@Surefootsurvival Understood,thanks for the info,love the vids.
Approximate ratio of h2o to rawhide in your glue mix???
Edie Boudreau it was all eyed balled. Half of the container of hide and put about an inch of water just above the hide. I need to adjust the title..my bad🤦♂️
Surefoot Survival thanks for info. It's Ok. All make autocorrect mistakes. Lol.
Your rawhide looks like tanned hide. Would you get more glue from untanned?
Broken up dog bone chew sticks
@@SurefootsurvivalIf they boil it in acetic acid or vinegar?
@@Estudiante-musico-con-hobbies might be misunderstanding your question. This video, it was boiled in water👊
@@Surefootsurvival
I had heard that acetic acid can separate the fibers of leather.
That's why I thought that with the fibers of the leather the leather could be hardened.
sorry, it was just a question
