  • With only couple of cheap components I can show you how to make simple wired remote camera trigger or shutter release for your Android smartphone.
You can use it to make stop motion animations, capture selfie using tripod or do macro or nigh photography without disturbing you phone position.
I'm afraid Apple users are out of luck on this one.

Just an FYI... you can't assume the mic as being infinite. It has an impedance, and many phones are looking for that to turn on the headphone port. Shorting with 2K ohms or so when "open" will make it work in everything.

Good point, thank you. I made this assumption for simlification, and followed the diagram from google docs for the resistor values.

Hi. My English is bad so I think you won't understand what I try to ask for but I gonna ask anyway. As I see you are good with electrics and electronics. I've gotowe a paralizator and a lighter in a long stick- for self defence. We always take this stick with us for holiday travel (just in case) Now it is broken. Most of wires are disconnected. I got all parts but have no idea how to fix it right way. It happened one year ago and I couldn't find a tutorial till today. Lighter and paralizator is working if connect battery to the 2 wires coming from lighter, paralizator and button switch. This part of stick is ok. Problems start on the ends of this 2 wires. Disconnected Parts: battery, capacitor, bridge, charging slot, led dot, resistor, switch button on/off,

I was so happy when I found out, a couple of years ago, that I could use head phones as a remote. Then I got a newer phone and was mad when I discovered it had no jack. Then I found a 3.4 to USB C. It works great. Now I need something with longer reach.
