Actually, it has to be a lot more than 77 minutes, because I keep backing up and replaying my favorite parts. And I click on all the time links that other people post, even though I know exactly what moment they're talking about.
If you're a musician you can hear how they set up the musical arrangement to tell the story. Mitch is caught in between supporting Kirstie's harmony part and supporting Scott's harmony part. At the 3:12, Mitch hits a dissonance with Scott, then sings above Scott, then sings above Kirstie, and then at 3:24 sings "felt that way" under Kirstie's part, settling on supporting her. They're geniuses.
It seems like every time I rewatch the Sing Off (I do it a lot, lol) I have a different favorite. At first, I thought Love Lockdown was the best. Then for a while I was all about Video Killed the Radio Star. Right now, I'm obsessed with Dog Days Are Over.
Mark Nutt Well, yes, in their own recordings & albums, they are more balanced in their vocals as far as lead and trio. But I feel like they were trying to establish Scott as the only lead, and trying to hide the fact that Mitch is gay so they wouldn't get voted off by homophobes, which kinda makes me sad :P
Hephaestus' Child I think you are reading too much into their choices. They threw this group together just before the sing off, Scott was the strongest and most versatile vocalist of the three so it made sence at the time of the show to have Scott be the lead most of the time. It appears Mitch, possibly, had some growing to do and he did so during the course of the show. Mitch is now super impressive as a lead singer.
...yaass Kirstie is always under-recognized...and she is an *awesome* vocalist! In this performance we get a quite long listen to her unrecognized impressive lower register. It's vibrant and utterly gorgeous!
+mitch grassi To Mitch's credit, I think he's singing harmony with Kirstie, that's how she seems to have such a great sound on this song. He doesn't have the spotlight here, but he adds so much to the performance. Hmm, rewatched, and Mitch is filling out the harmony all the way through. Could listen to this song all day.
As a member of the rest of the world, I agree! Definitely not a weak performance! This was a very complex mashup of two very popular songs and it was arranged so well that it flowed perfectly! It sounded like ONE song, instead of a mix of two. They worked the entire stage plus acted out the story they were telling like a theatre performance. And let's not overlook the best boxing and bass battle!! This was an AMAZING flex of their musical "muscles". A+
This is another great example of how they milk every once of audible joy from their songs. Watch this through carefully and notice how often Mitch doubles down on either Scott's or Kirstie's voices in order to create that extra vibrato. Scott/Mitch/Kirstie are all so talented individually, but their ability to leap into and out of seamless harmonies with each other is just SIIIIICK. Add to that Kevin/Avi and you have the musical definition of "sum is greater than their parts".
Every few months I go back and rewatch all of their SO performances, and this one gets me every time. It's also a great example of what amazing physical performers are: they've all totally mastered the art of acting one thing while singing something else. Avi and Kevin might be singing some 'nonsense' base or beatboxing notes, but their acting is telling a completely different story. Every time Kevin and Mitch meet for that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ moment, I know Kevin is beatboxing, but my brain says he's doing the "woo ooh ooh" because those are his gestures. Flawless ability to separate their voices from their acting every time!
Theresa Lim #Kavi became a thing in their 8th performance (Stuck Like Glue) when Avi put his arm around Kirstie at the end and looked at her like he wanted to kiss her. Also, Kevin's name also starts with a K... O.O lol
I love rewatching these old videos. Only a little sad Mitch never got the chance to shine quite like he does nowadays, so we don't get to hear the judges freak out over how amazing he is, at most it's been like: "and Mitch, you were great too".
Scott & Kirstie: Gets in an arguent and breaks up Avi,Kevin & Mitch:we didnt do anything Avi:oh wait... Kirstie:ooohhh Avi Scott:ugh Mitch & Kevin:We STILL didnt do anything
Here's my interpretation of the story of the whole performance. All five of them are actually friends and Scott and Kirstie became in a relationship but it didn't work out. That's when Avi and Kirstie began to have something. Basically, Kevin and Avi's "convo" is all about Kevin telling Avi to stay away from Kirstie because it just makes the fight of the two ex-lovers worse. Explains Avi's "Oh no" with finger waving. AND MITCH IS JUST RIGHT THERE, WATCHING AND WAITING FOR SCOTT TO ACTUALLY NOTICE HIS HIDDEN FEELINGS FOR HIM. WHAT. LOL. I'm not even a Pentaholic but... yeah. Bye! LOL. BTW, I LOVE YOU, AVI! MARRY ME.
Here they are back in 2011 performing Kelly Clarkson hoping to win the song off. Here they are in 2015 on tour with Kelly and they've won a Grammy. MY BABYS
you know what's great? during the drum and bass part, avi wasn't even singing during a couple parts of it. he was just beatboxing to keep the beat going while kevin did his thing.... such great teamwork
+Hey Seuss Went to that concert when they were in Denver, sold out arena tour....yeah she sucks. Was an awesome concert from start to finish. And to be honest, I'm not even a huge Kelly fan. Ran into tickets and loved the concert.
I don't know about anyone else but this left me MIND BLOWN. Sure, the judges were judging them on only their music, but there was NOT enough credit for the phenomenal execution of the "story" that they put together themselves. Acting while performing awesome music is not easy. The tension and spunky attitude between Scott and Kirsty was perfect, and the supporting characters did AWESOME (especially Mitch, who was jumping up and down and going like "Ohh bitch take that!") while Scott and Kirsty were being all catty. The competition between Forget You / Since U Been Gone was an electrifying couple's argument. Scott, I'm loving the attitude you put into your character. Kirstie, I'm a little disappointed because I know you have surreal potential but your voice didn't quite nail it for me in this one. It felt like you restrained from hitting the high notes but I know you could definitely pull it off. Avi and Kevin - meat and potatoes - I don't even know where to begin with your performance - the TENSION between the two parties, the mood of the performance, SHOT THROUGH THE ROOF when you guys did your thing!!! Every single freaking time. But this time was mad! Every second of this performance was phenomenal. You guys did not get enough credit from the judges for putting together, once again, such a spectacular show. You didn't only deliver musically, but you provided great entertainment and conveyed the relevant emotions so skillfully. I felt it.
Mitch is the unsung hero of this arrangement. His outrageous range lets him closely harmonize Scott's baritone or Kirstie's soprano so flawlessly that it almost seems like overdubbing. When they all join it's seamless.
This was my favorite mix that they did. I did like the Britney mix, but this was my favorite. It was so theatrical and it was like a theatre performance and a story it was just so impressive and awesome. Well done.
I appreciate that you posted all of these performances. I go back and re-watch them over and over. :) However, your assessment of the performances is often way off, IMO. This one rocked. They didn't sound tired. They nailed it. This song really showed off one of PTX's biggest strengths. Their skill in arranging music is a big part of why they won...and are continuing to set the world on fire.
This is what I put together: So, Kirstie and Scott were in this relationship, but when they start to argue, Kirstie starts a relationship with Avi. Scott finds out, and the three have this humongous argument. Here comes Kevin, and he says, lay off Kirstie, she's mine. Avi's like "NOPE!" In the background, Mitch is just confused. Really confused.
this is my first thought: AWESOME! Omg i luv this mix and their choreography! It matches so WELL! The songs actually fit a lot! I totally agree with Sara!
My fav performance of them so far! Kevin and Avi's fight was SO mind-blowing! And what are those 109 losers doing here? They must be deaf bc Pentatonix is perfection...
I was watching a cappella groups and "stumbled" upon them. I have watched all the Sing Off performances. So happy that they won and have been touring the world and and still going strong!!! Best Wishes and I will check out your Facebook and websites....
This has to be one of my favorite vides EVER! I mean like, the music was epic, there was Kavi and a breakup with Scott, and then those beats from 2:54 - 3:01 was just BEAST!! Love it so much xD Plus the Meat and Potatoes xD
This makes me feel like Scott and Kirstie were dating but then the broke up and now Kirstie and Avi are dating and Mitch and Kevin are just in the background going OOOOOOOO😱😱😱😱😱
I loved this performance. It was great how they acted out the song as they sang it. I really liked how Kevin and Mitch played the concerned friends in the background. Great entertainment value.
Thank you. I've nearly posted several times about Mitch's strong, solid support of the leads in this. He hangs in the background to support the story line and choreography you are very correct. He was a hero here. Except for solo parts, he's singing nearly every word Kirstie sings. .
What? the video descrip i am so in disagreement with. For being tired, they hooked it up kept it playful and upbeat, and they way they mashed the songs together in the end. I loved it. Laughed through it 2x.
Whenever they say "we're scared this isn't going to work" or something, it works because they're amazing and talented and work well together. So proud of them (yes, I am binge watching all their performances)
*Plays video* Avi:"Let the beat droppp..." *Pauses video* O_O Me: "Oh...oh my *Ahem* I need to get some air." Conclusion: Avi has a voice that can spontaneously turn the heat up. A lot.
I love the combination of these two songs, because, Since U Been Gone, is a girl obsessed with a guy, that left her, and she is okay, but still hurt, then you have Forget You, which is all about a guy being played by a girl because she wants a sugar daddy, so it goes together so well.
Scott, Mitch, Kristen, Avi, and Kevin, Never say never. It's 2015 and this was 2012-2013 when you did this. Every time you were on ppl would cheer and now you put a great remix on 21 century music! You have thousands of fans. Don't let one person bring you down. You are amazing and I have your Christmas album and the PTX vol.ll that is A M A Z I N G!!!!! You guys are killing it al the time! Wow Your fan, Izzy!
What really blows my mind is how the choreography didn't line up with the vocal parts. I mean, to have mitch and Kevin share looks, and Kirsten and Avi close together, but there was no bleed-over in terms of rhythm or pitch? You see 2:10 and realize that mitch was doing the hoo-hoo-hoo while kevin was still beatboxing. They really kept the vocal grouping and the acting seperate, which is a great break-from-gestalt. Also "Avi and Kevin, you really gave voices to the instruments." ... You mean the instruments that are their voices? They gave voices to their voices?
totally agree!!! that's what make them even more amazing...acting n doing the choreography and still in sync with the vocal..it's very hard to do that but they do it so easily and when we try, it's so difficult...
I love how Ben can be the "simon cowell" (please don't take this the wrong way) of the judges and not get completely boo'd by the audience when he says something not SUPER POSITIVE. Makes the vibe of the whole program seem way more professional as well.
I know that Pentatonix looks back at these performances and have said some of them are hard to watch because of the clothing they had to wear. Please don't feel that way. You guys looked awesome. Your performances are all crazy amazing. I could watch them over and over and over again. I'm obsessed
These older videos are killer. They are such an amazing group, and i'm so happy that they are where they are today. This mashup seemed unprofitable in my perspective at first, but they really pulled this off.
It actually took me a while to appreciate this one. But the more I listen to it, the more I realize just how good the mash-up really is. Very fluid and well put together.
Oh wow, how did they even think of putting that together, swing the song back and forth like that! Loved that "bitching battle" Awesome performance too. LOVE
The uploader is cra-Z this is just as good if not better then others. It shows ingenuity and teamwork. The harmonies are amazing and the leads hold there own through tough transitions. Great JOB!!
love this so much!!! If I hadn't heard the start where they said it was 2 songs meshed I would have sworn this was 1 song!! LOVE PTX!!!! LOVE YOU AVI!!!!!!
Taya Serrao And don't forget I'm pretty sure he was still in high school during the first few shows at least. He was a year behind Kirstie and Scott so he probably didn't have as much time to work out his sound and progress in his singing. He has obviously come a very long way and is really an amazing singer now that he expanded his vocal range to its full capacity. :)
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! so much music and love overloaddd!! i'm just smiling so big right now and pumped up I can't even typ correct xD love you guys!!
I have no clue what the uploader was hearing but it couldn't have been the video he uploaded. I was prepared to be let down and I absolutely wasn't. This was fantastic! What a novel arrangement and great performance!
Who else has been here for the last 77 minutes listening to all these performances all over again ??
Me!

I love how subtle the choreo is with it as well. With Mitch staring at them, and doing the supportive note in the group.

THE LOOKING BETWEEN THE TWO
@@carjis 3:50...the look on Mitch's face. Brilliant. Every time I come back I notice something different...like we all do.
And at 19, it’s mind blowing. Of course we know what they’ve been able to do since, so it just shows how smart and talented they started off.
I guess Kristie figured that Scott was Treble when he walked in, so then she turned around and saw Avi and now she's all about that Bass ;D
U made my night xD
YASSSSS
Best comment I've ever seen
Thanks!
You have made my day even better tanks👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾
I don't understand how the uploader thought this was one of their weaker ones.
This one was definitely one of their greater ones.
ThatNerdJonathan this was my fave
My fav was their love lockdown it was flawless
MarioDoesMinecraft exactly, although to be fair, Born To Be Wild was very close in my opinion
It seems like every time I rewatch the Sing Off (I do it a lot, lol) I have a different favorite. At first, I thought Love Lockdown was the best. Then for a while I was all about Video Killed the Radio Star. Right now, I'm obsessed with Dog Days Are Over.
Elise Gustafson just because they one a Grammy doesn't mean they never have weak performances...
Mitch and Kevin just awkwardly stand there witnessing the whole thing lol
Mitch and Kirstie are so underrepresented in this show, I really want them to sing out at some point.
Go and listen to "Mary did you know".. Each member has an amazing part

Dear Mr. Description Writer: Yes, they were tired. This was not, however, their weakest effort. By far.
Sincerely, The Rest of the World.
*high fives*
The sass is real right here

Right you are!!!! It is one of my favorites actually!
The description writer didn't really like MOST of their performances. "It was not my favorite" seems to be their go-to phrase.
Ben Folds: Bitchin'
Avi: Oh that feels so amazing!
Kevin: Watch yo profanity....
omg i thought i was the only one that noticed xD
omg i thought i was the only one that noticed xD
I thought the same about Kevin. I think Avi felt the same as Kevin because it looked like he felt like he had to smile
+Sha'Nya Foreman it's amazing
thejman367 *Nah Avi’s smile looks pretty real to me, but Kevin definitely was not impressed with it.*
This is another great example of how they milk every once of audible joy from their songs.

Love how they exit the chorus at 2:50. Scott and Kirstie hold notes while Mitch moves his. really cool effect.
it's called a canon break :) it creates cool layers of sound, they use this a lot and it's always so bitchin
anyone else realize that when they were singing Mitch and Keven are like, yeah, we are watching a love story, this isn't awkward at all.
Every few months I go back and rewatch all of their SO performances, and this one gets me every time. That's EXACTLY how I felt rewatching the vids, because Mitch absolutely SLAYS now, he's found his style and his confidence
I'm sure most of the judges are watching them succeed so much, they are very amazed and proud of them ❤️
They all have grown.. And it's awesome. Each and every one of them grow and you can see it
he's incredible in Florence's dog days are over
Mitch has blossomed - he is awesome. Such a pure, powerful voice.
Scott saying that he doesn't want this to be over and wants to do the things he is actually doing now is such an AWWWW moment.. Warms my heart. :)
Scott & Kirstie: Gets in an arguent and breaks up

This makes me feel like Scott and Kirstie were dating but then the broke up and now Kirstie and Avi are dating and Mitch and Kevin are just in the background going OOOOOOOO😱😱😱😱😱
+Kristy Lok At the end Kevin's like FINALLY THEY STOPPED ARGUING
Oh my gosh, that is so funny! I never noticed that! Kevin's just like, VICTORY
KAVI I SHIP IT
I think Kevin and Mitch were supposed to be Avi's friends.
I know that's like the story.
Make that 3x--oh no! *finger wave*
I love Kevin and Avi's fight ! And that "Oh No" Avi does is also amazing !
Mitch's face at 3:49 - 3:50 is like.. "That's right, b*tch. You better back the f*ck up.." 😂
Whenever they say "we're scared this isn't going to work" or something, it works because they're amazing and talented and work well together. So proud of them (yes, I am binge watching all their performances)
I can't get enough of this!!! Avi and Kevin OMG
*Plays video*
Avi:"Let the beat droppp..."
*Pauses video*
O_O Me: "Oh...oh my *Ahem* I need to get some air."
Conclusion: Avi has a voice that can spontaneously turn the heat up. A lot.
I love the combination of these two songs, because, Since U Been Gone, is a girl obsessed with a guy, that left her, and she is okay, but still hurt, then you have Forget You, which is all about a guy being played by a girl because she wants a sugar daddy, so it goes together so well.
Scott, Mitch, Kristen, Avi, and Kevin,
Never say never. Wow
Your fan,
Izzy!
Kirstin*
I love Scott's subtle little wink and nod at 2:51 like "yea, we besties…"
What really blows my mind is how the choreography didn't line up with the vocal parts. I mean, to have mitch and Kevin share looks, and Kirsten and Avi close together, but there was no bleed-over in terms of rhythm or pitch? You see 2:10 and realize that mitch was doing the hoo-hoo-hoo while kevin was still beatboxing. They really kept the vocal grouping and the acting seperate, which is a great break-from-gestalt.
Also "Avi and Kevin, you really gave voices to the instruments."
... You mean the instruments that are their voices? They gave voices to their voices?
totally agree!!! that's what make them even more amazing...acting n doing the choreography and still in sync with the vocal..it's very hard to do that but they do it so easily and when we try, it's so difficult...
It's actually Kirstin lol.
Not gonna lie, this was there best performance BY FAR in the competition.
I really liked The Dog Days Are Over 😛
The dude uploading the video is such a critic... this was AMAZING!
2019 and still back again binge watching every PTX video. Their evolution is so freaking AMAZING.
A) Kavi
B)what a coincidence, they end up touring with Kelly Clarkson in 2015!
2:55-3:00 Best part of the performance. I rewind every single time and it's still awesome. Go Avi and Kevin, you guys rock!
I love how Ben can be the "simon cowell" (please don't take this the wrong way) of the judges and not get completely boo'd by the audience when he says something not SUPER POSITIVE. Makes the vibe of the whole program seem way more professional as well.
Kevin's reaction at the end ...he knew they just killed it 😭 love these guys
I know that Pentatonix looks back at these performances and have said some of them are hard to watch because of the clothing they had to wear. Please don't feel that way. You guys looked awesome. Your performances are all crazy amazing. I could watch them over and over and over again. I'm obsessed
I died when avi said "OH NO"
2:53
Not my favourite of their mixes but this really shows a hell of a lot of skill and creativity.
2:11 Avis just like "You mad bro?"
These older videos are killer. They are such an amazing group, and i'm so happy that they are where they are today. This mashup seemed unprofitable in my perspective at first, but they really pulled this off.
Avi looks so proud in this, like he's finally won that prize he's sought after for the last who knows how long. haha I love this performance!
Kevin at the end of the song was just like, "Are you kidding me! I shipped you! Forget this!"
(Well that's what I think he was "expressing" XD)
I really enjoyed this, it sounded like an original song than a mashup.
I know right?
It actually took me a while to appreciate this one. But the more I listen to it, the more I realize just how good the mash-up really is. Very fluid and well put together.
Mitch is a hero of this song, hidden in the back, but doing great work there.
Yugdriew 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Oh wow, how did they even think of putting that together, swing the song back and forth like that! Loved that "bitching battle"
Awesome performance too. LOVE
The uploader is cra-Z this is just as good if not better then others. It shows ingenuity and teamwork. The harmonies are amazing and the leads hold there own through tough transitions. Great JOB!!
I love how they played out the songs. Like a K and scott broke up and Avi and K got together. I just loved it!
I can't even express how much I love the Kevin and Avi thing during the performance!!!!! :D
They are one the best singing group ever, also to whoever uploaded this they did an amazing job so please leave it to the judges to say how the did
Cool way of saying "Mr Duck Bear.. Fuck your opinions."
love this so much!!! If I hadn't heard the start where they said it was 2 songs meshed I would have sworn this was 1 song!! LOVE PTX!!!! LOVE YOU AVI!!!!!!
Honestly, Mitch has improved so much. He sings a lot more now. Incredible.
When I first heard this, I thought this was one song and not two.
In the end Scott is heartbroken/pissed, Avi and Kirstie are together, Mitch is instigating, and Kevin just gives up.
I feel bad for Mitch he never get the leads it always Scott or Kristie I feel like they don't realize that Mitch has an amazing voice
I hate that he never got leads in the Sing Off either but he gets solos now so now I'm happy
Um I'm pretty sure Mitch was in the same year as Scott and Kristie. They talk about it in the first show.
Check their bios on the PTX official website. Just because they were the same age doesn't mean they were in the same year of school.
Great stuff. Alvin and Kelvin were awesome. Great performance pentatonix!! I 've been watching all your videos!
2:30 I love when Kevin's like you better not even think about that word slipping out!💕💕💕
This blows my mind. Their arrangement skills are equally as impressive as their performances.
These kids are out of this world.
Look at the description. He said this was weak. Dafuq
AVI AND KIRSTIN STOP YOU'RE KILLING ME
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! so much music and love overloaddd!! i'm just smiling so big right now and pumped up I can't even typ correct xD love you guys!!
I have no clue what the uploader was hearing but it couldn't have been the video he uploaded. I was prepared to be let down and I absolutely wasn't. This was fantastic! What a novel arrangement and great performance!
