You can use a felt slipmat for better start up or a plastic one for more slip,or a combination of two different kinds of slipmats gives a unique feel. Also some vinyl will grab the slipmat in different ways I have some records that I cant get to slip without stopping the entire platter, and some that spin so freely it takes a second or two to get going.. something about the grain but you have to experiment.
