LMagnificent, your talent is quite inspiring, I was away from the arts for a long time after my mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, but watching your videos made me come back.
Couple years back I went to New Orleans and took an amazing photo of a church that I knew I wanted to try and draw. Tried multiple times and failed and was getting so frustrated. I ended up gridding out the photo and my sketchbook and got a sketch I’m okay with. Couldn’t get proportions right or angles right. Your photo reminds me of mine and seeing how you changed up the focus and didn’t make it an exact copy and how amazing it turned out seems so freeing. I forget that it’s a drawing and doesn’t have to be an exact copy and perfect.
During watching I was like: where will she leave that toned paper uncovered, and I was so happy to see you did it drawing the main character😍 Thanks for the video! It is a kind reminder for me to finally finish my travel sketchbook of urban sketching.
Hi Jess karp your paintings are super fun and amazing I just started my 8th sketchbook and it’s going really good today we went to jungle with my family and relatives and I did location painting in my sketchbook the clouds ☁️ and view was super beautiful we collected so many flowers and enjoy a lot 😊😊😊😊
This is such a helpful and inspiring tutorial! Your tips on composition are spot-on, and I love how you break down the urban sketching process step by step. You make it look so approachable, even for beginners. Thank you for sharing your techniques!
Hullo Jess, You are truly an amazing Artist and I do enjoy how you simply change your subject and never seem to get hung up on the perfect copy! Letting your intuition guide and direct your creation, Glorious! I have to say something about your brush as I am who I am. Masters Brush Soap is great for cleaning and conditioning your brushes. You can remove so much debris that actually hinder your painting strokes! Allowing your brush fibers to hold the paint in the belly of your brushes, yes flat brushes do have belly's! So keeping the root or part by the ferrule lets your brush do what it is designed to do! I know people say I do not buy expensive brushes because X, Y, Z, but even less expensive brushes need care and will last longer, saving you money! I remember the days when only a fool would use a synthetic brush, now they rival natural hair Kolinsky brushes! Sweet video Jess, Thanks for showing us how you do it!
Thanks Jess to take the time to share with us your Art, your tips, your experience … And always with encouragement and kindness. I’m not fluent in english, I don't always understand what you say 😊but I love to watch your videos and I love your work 🤩
I love how the toned paper brings warmth to the black and white... I appreciate how you break the drawing process down. So many times, I see something I want to draw and say, "oh that's difficult", then I think of your videos! Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you for the tips! I`ve been using a toned (tan and grey) sketchbook for a while now, and those tips will come in handy! Lovely urban sketch, you did there!
Informative guide coming from Jess always make worth repeating. I fibd your vlogs meeting audience to the tea. Brown grocery bags are great for dawning too jess and the best thing sometimes you can get some free if you ask your clerk 4 or 5 will be enough but the paper is super strong and very forgiving just a tip if you want save some pennies also sandwich bags white or brown just tips on getting free paper if you all are struggling butcher paper from the market napkins from a restaurant a nice 4 star one they got the best one I just put these out there because sometimes art supplies are pricey and if you can draw you always have money from your art jess great vid again and thanks love you're smile and goofy attitude makes my day thanks 😊 here is sun shine at you kid keep smiling 😃

ivy strewn upon brick buildings with bells where professors teach and scholars learn slowly carefully the scene is drawn by the skilled hands of an artist unkown this is a poem I wrote when I was 13 about orton hall on the ohio state campus, it has bells that chime has always been so terrifically charming to me looks remarkably similar to the subject you chose to draw for this video some of the other poems I wrote became songs after I learned to play music well than and I confess your creativity has inspired me to write music again
Kind of unrelated but I have a rash between my toes. Found out I’m allergic to fabric softener. My toes and man jewels got all rashed up. So brutal. Hope everyone has a fun filled magical day that is full of wonder and surprise.

Such a lovely and inspiring video love watching you create
This is great love how it looks like a photo with an intense focus at the spire and lack of focus on the rest of the picture.
Thank you!
There is a beautiful synergy to your mark making , painting and perspective ! Love the outcome so much !
Thank you so much
I love your techniques in this video. It was my “aha” moment. Thank you!

Beautifully done! Toned paper can be such a deligh! Everything seems to look better than when i use regionally white sketchbook paper.
Thanks so much! 😊 I agree ahah
@@artofjesskarp i think I mean "traditional" instead of "regionally" 😂😂😂😅
I like that you left the main tower the tone paper. The white gouache made it stand out. I haven’t used gouache paint. Nice.
