From a quality-originality-creativity standpoint I totally agree, but wouldn’t their heyday as the most watched channel have been the Seinfeld/Friends/Frazier trifecta? Those were like the most popular shows of all time, watched by something like 20 million ppl simultaneously. By the time 30 Rock came around the TV audience was starting to fragment because of cable and premium channels.
PricklyPineapples Vastly better shows by any measure of quality. But I’m talking about pure popularity. Audience generation. “Ratings”. Seinfeld and Friends won’t be beat in today’s era of fractured viewership/a thousand and one channels. Not talking opinions here. Just the numbers. If you were asking my opinion I’d tell you The Good Place (an actual show about moral philosophy wtf am I hallucinating?!!?) is infinitely superior to the schlock NBC was putting out weekly in the 90s and early 2000s. But, alas, it’s not witty repartee and pithy commentary about the ethical implications of personal responsibility that our eye balls on TV sets. Sadly.
Thank you Parks and Recollection for telling me about this masterpiece. It’s so dated but in all the best ways. The 2012 NBC lineup was really something.
sometimes i look back at this era of television and wonder, “how the hell did i miss all of these amazing shows?” and then i remember i was 10 in 2012.
I was 11 when I watched the office, 12 for community, and 13 for 30 rock. I was 5 In 2012. I’m just saying, some shows you can watch even when you are young
ajurieu I was just thinking that. He aaaaalmost seems like he might’ve been a team player there for like a half a moment. Perhaps we could show him this commercial and remind him what the fuck that means? *sigh*
This is 11 years old, you need to adjust your timeframe. These were the sitcoms of the late 00s, not of the last decade. The Office ended over a decade ago at this point which is nuts to realize.
NBC is like a big weird community you get sucked into. Like a year ago, the only people I really knew in this were the Parks and Rec, Parenthood, and Community people. Then I started watching SNL and stuff and now I could just about name everyone in the video.
@@frosty_teacup I think you'll like Parks and Rec if you like The Office. Hope you watch Community too. It is totally something else. I need to watch 30 Rock myself
@@joevictor53 hey, I think o watched PandR right after I commented this or something because it was ages ago 😂 and it was great!! Can't wait for the new episode next week! Also watched Community as soon as it came on Netflix - definitely a new fave #sixseasonsandamovie. And I also started 30 rock but haven't gotten around to continuing it, I'm on another rewatch of the office atm 😂
Frosty Teacup that's great that you liked it. I just watched the whole series for a second time a couple of months ago. I know what you mean about watching the same shows again. I'm on my rewatch of community thanks to Netflix even though I just watched it a month before on amazon prime 😂. I'm annoyed because they put 30 rock on this service called all4 here in the UK at the beginning of last year but when I checked, they took it off at the end of the year
0:43 "Are we in a SuperBowl commercial? Is a Clydesdale gonna kick a beer at Betty White or something?" I was really hoping this line would see a callback at the end. Naturally some CGI would've been required, but Betty would've absolutely been on board. She was amazing.
I remember Robert Morse singing that song in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. It's a good song. Almost like the Coke commercial "I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony... It's the real thing!"
All really good, except for 2:27 - 3:07, which has aged like milk. We've got 4 shows that didn't last more than two seasons between the four of them, there along with the infamous names of Chris D'Elia, Matt Lauer, and Donald Trump.
I guess they couldn't get those people to the shoot and dropped them in later. I just recognize Kathy Bates and Howie Mandel. Bates starred in a show called Harry's Law at the time. Maybe these were the west-coasters who couldn't get to NYC?
It is now 2023. Some of these shows, (OK, all of these shows are history.) are still in rerun on cable. BUT they were great shows then and would be great shows now. Except for the one with the Mandarin Mussolini.
Late here but as of this post, only four are currently airing: SVU, Today Show, The Voice, and SNL (with cast change). Fallon was still with Late Night here hence Seth Meyers still with SNL and Leno with Tonight Show. 😊
WHAT??? How can you even say that. The NBC Thursday night line up of The Cosby Show, Family Ties, Cheers, Night Court, and Hill Street Blues, was the greatest ever!
Regardless of your thoughts on Trump, if you are going to let less then 2 seconds in a almost 4 minute video ruin it for you, then you are either overly sensitive or you are just looking for things to be angry about, which is a sad existence tbh.
Raise your hand if you landed here after the "Vanity Fair" piece in today's The Hive e-newsletter. Love this song, love this video, love "Smash," but ... wow! Who knew what a rogue's gallery of fallen men this would enshrine just 10 years later?
Holy shit 30 Rock, The Office, Parks and Rec, AND Community!? Was this really their 2012 lineup? That’s insane!
what's really insane is that all 4 of those shows were shown in a single 2 hour block on thursday night! what a time for tv.
NBC's Thursday Nights were "Must See TV" since the late 70's
I know and the cast of SNL
I just saw Doug Judy haha
Those were the good old days
Proof that NBC peaked in 2012 :/
Also 1996. I guess it's cyclical?
You weren't alive in the 80's, were you?

Golden era of nbc casting. 'Specially snl.
Yeah, especially Smash! And Donald Trump!
can you imagine 30 rock, parks & rec and community were aired on the same night
They were aired on the same night.
The office as well
Now that’s one golden night right there
At one point there was Fraiser Seinfeld and Friends and for a short while I think Will and Grace aired at the same time.
It was a great time
This is the greatest commercial I have ever seen. No joke.
And to think so many of them didn't want to be in it (ahem, Jimmy Fallon.)
Thank you Parks and Recollection for telling me about this masterpiece. It’s so dated but in all the best ways. The 2012 NBC lineup was really something.
I was looking for this comment
Paused the pod to check it out. What an era.
Same thing brought me here.
literally me
*Recreation
I had the biggest smile when the Community cast came up. #sixseasonsandamovie
boy do i have new for you
They were truly streets ahead!

10 years later and we are still waiting for the movie...
The one-two punch of Trump and Lauer really gets you
Yup. Of course people only complain about Trump on here. They seem to forget Lauer's crimes.
It’s that and Chris D’Elia for me.
@@J3rs3y_G1rl Lauer was never charge with a crime by anyone. I m NOT defending Matt but relative to Trump he’s a Boy Scout.
Ha. Alex Baldwin apologized at the onset of #MeToo for his behavior and was a passenger on lolita island flights
Really aged well...
Does anyone remember that this was directed by Taika Waititi. This has been my favourite commercial going on 10 years now.
He had to put the camera at a height specified by Trump, to make him look “thinner”.
you can't stop synergy Lemon. It's bigger than all of us.
sometimes i look back at this era of television and wonder, “how the hell did i miss all of these amazing shows?” and then i remember i was 10 in 2012.
I was seven in 2012. I missed out on a lot of quality television :/
Seems like a feel-good era, like people will look back on when they're older and be nostalgic
I was 11 when I watched the office, 12 for community, and 13 for 30 rock. I was 5 In 2012. I’m just saying, some shows you can watch even when you are young
I did not need to hear this.
I was 35 and still missed all of them. I have a lot of catching up to do.
I didn't know this existed and now I'm screaming
I KNOW, RIGHT?!
camifoutch SAMEEEEEEEEE
Why do I have the feeling that getting Trump to point and say “You” required the most takes out of all of this?
ajurieu I was just thinking that. He aaaaalmost seems like he might’ve been a team player there for like a half a moment. Perhaps we could show him this commercial and remind him what the fuck that means? *sigh*
Yeah, because he's only used to saying "me".
Because he kept saying, "Me", right? It's never about anyone but him.
And for just that second I wasn't enjoying this... then he went away.
I like how Ken Jeong is probably the best dancer in this commercial, because there is nothing he cannot do.
I love that the chalkboard in the Community study room has the choreography on it
Directed by Taika Waititi!! 🤯🤯Thanks Parks and recollection for that tidbit!!
if that was actually amy singing, id love to see her on broadway.
You need to check out Ana Gesteyer in the revival of Reefer Maddness, then xD
I need to hear more Amy Poehler belting! She's fantastic.
Hate to burst your bubble. it's not actually her i believe. although she can sing!
Damn NBC really had all the best sitcoms of the last 10 years on their network at the same time.
This is 11 years old, you need to adjust your timeframe. These were the sitcoms of the late 00s, not of the last decade. The Office ended over a decade ago at this point which is nuts to realize.

I can’t believe they all stay in character. Dwight flexing, Jenna aiming for the ca-mer-a, Ron tolerating it barely.... 🥰
Good to see the final result! I played bass on this 😁
It's like a bad accident--I can't look away... Matt Laurer dancing with Ann Curry... President Felon... Amazing!
What in the world was Smash?
First episode date: February 6, 2012
Final episode date: May 26, 2013
Ah ok.
What a different world 2012 was.
Yeah, 2023 here, it ain't getting any better.
Mariska can sing and Ice’s reaction towards his squad
i have an emotional attachment to this commercial
Me: wow I love this comercial! One of my favorite musicals mixed with my favorite shows! What could possibly go wrong
NBC: 3:03
The community part is the best one! Chang's moves are awesome!
This commercial was directed by Taika Watiti before he became a directing superstar.
Holy crap 2012 nbc was a freaking golden age
Loved the SVU cast they were the greatest part of this they need to do this every year with whoever host the Super bowl
I think SVU is the last scripted prime time show from the promo still on NBC.
Look all those stars they were all in nbc
This........This is pure gold.
And in the case of Trump, a golden shower.
Jonah Falcon lol yeah

Smash may have lasted only 2 seasons but it still has a big following till this day. It’s even getting a broadway adaptation
This made me cry tears of joy i love this omg
Wasn’t expecting to see the president in there. Sometimes I forget he was a reality tv star before.
The theater kid and the sitcom fan in me are screaming
I love how everybody's just like, "OLIVIA!!!"
It was wise to leave most of the speaking parts to the 30 Rock crew
Two shots at 3:26 and 3:27... The people in the front were definitely green-screened in lol
I thought I was the only one who saw that.
I guess they couldn't get those people to the shoot and dropped them in later. I just recognize Kathy Bates and Howie Mandel. Bates starred in a show called Harry's Law at the time. Maybe these were the west-coasters who couldn't get to NYC?
@@martinsorenson1055 The one next to Kathy Bates was David Giuntoli from Grimm. Grimm filmed in Portland.

I cannot see this without thinking about Robert Morse! J Pierpont Finch.

Who's here after the Parks & Recollection podcast?

I just like the part when Ice-T's looking at his castmastes like he's saying, "The F@#k?" 😅😅😅

2:38: GO MARISKA
This was the golden age of NBC
Here because of the Culturegeist segment on the Into It podcast this week!
It makes me feel old to see a video that's 11 years old and in this good quality.
Yeah, I've been noticing this pattern lately.
Love that Ron Swanson didn’t sing and put a 👎 at the end
While knowing that his real-life wife starred in the musical this song is from on Broadway.
Anyone else watch this like 20 times purely for Mariska Hargitay?
+pokemonfan11 The one dangling the handcuffs on the set of SVU
I LITERALLY GASPED AT THE OFFICE AND COMMUNITY CAST AHHH
MARISKAAAAAA. She's so perfect.♥
I can tell they had so much fun filming this
2012: How cute!
2020: Trump ruined this too.
We have to think that at the time Trump hadn't ruined the country yet

Yeah, such as "The Office", "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit", and "30 Rock"
Awesome!
I can't believe that they got all of those people to do that. I'm. stunned.

this was the golden era of nbc
Making foreshadowing and not realising it is the curse of all tv leading up to 2016
This made me really happy I love this video

The best super bowl commercial ever😂🤣

Ron (Parks and Recreation)
Fin (SVU)
That was great! Again again again...
