@@NamesAreRandombut not necessary as fast as he does. He starts to run extremely fast for his age, and this proves his ability to read and move very quickly.
@@NamesAreRandom Monfils is so fast, he usually don't predict/commit to a side before the opponents has already hit the ball. He is one of the only players on the tour to do this, and it's only possible because he is lightning fast, and it requires one heck of a stamina.
@@mathieugiroux6407 it's the same thing that Novak does..pretending to be exausted after every point, pretty annoying to be fair but who am I to judge.
Very happy to see Monfils play and play on this high level! Congratulation and good luck for the tournament! Monfils showed his young teammate, that he's still one of the best french player - with 38 years! Perricard has to train smash!
I love both players. From younger players Perricard is my favourite, but today I am glad Monfils won, so we can see him play in his last years and Perricard will have his time in near future. 😉 Movement of Monfils at 38 is fascinating.
Honestly, this is one of the least expected first round results. I thought Monfils wouldn't have much left in him after winning Auckland (correction, I have mistaken it with Adelaide) and I would totally bet on Perricard if I was betting. But I couldn't be more wrong. Superb performance against the young monster with great form and killer serve. Some interesting stats: Perricard is usually above 80 percent in 1st serve points won, but today he was only at 74. How did Monfils return so many 200+ km/h bombs? Also his own serve was super impressive, hit only one ace less than Perricard and even with 16 double faults he faced zero break points, it's quite unbelievable (superb timing of those DFs lol). But the most impressive stat is probably the unforced errors. If we exclude the DFs, he only missed 18 shots during rallies over 5 sets and almost 4 hours of play. Not many players can be that solid in such a long match. Hope he has enough energy to win a few more matches. He's been playing some of his best tennis this year at 38 and I am really happy for him.
I'm so happy for Monfils, first time seeing him playing so mature, and managing to cross the finish line beside the difficulties. It seems to me that he has improved on his two greatest shortcomings his mental fortitude and his stamina. Also very impressed by Perricard, if he stays healthy, future holds a lot for him.
If you watched Monfils in Auckland* (not Adelaide) then I don't think this is a surprise at all, he was playing great & I found it odd so many people were tipping GMP (great player & in form don't get me wrong, but Monfils has experience+form going in).
@HS1-1 Thanks for the correction, he won Adelaide title in 2022, but this year it was Auckland, sorry I messed up. It is a surprise for me, even knowing and seeing his form at that tournament. He had very little time for preparation and rest after last week and he looked exhausted in some of the Auckland matches, especially in the semifinal against Basavareddy. So I had no doubts about his form, but I didn't expect him to be physically ready for winning slam matches after the long successful week, especially against such a strong first round opponent. Hope his body can take him to the second week because the form and confidence are definitely at very high levels.
@@tennisfitapp Normally I would agree. But at 38 and with his style, that's not very aggressive and he plays a lot of neutral and defensive points and long rallies, it is definitely very impressive.
Impressionnant... bravo!
As someone who doesn't like GMP at all (personally, so all good), but Monfils does, very much so, I see it like this: you just can't like him I think... It put a smile on my face when I saw that he was 3-1 up in the last set and won the first two. I really like his victory! Keep it up, you're definitely the winner of hearts for me! You're putting Gruntbert, Moutet and all the French fans who don't like to be seen at the French Open, i.e. France, in a good light again!
Monfils had two match points in the third set and didn't convert so they played another two sets as a result. Perricard struggles with very tall players who move well. They can absorb his serve. Nothing more intoxicating than these applause and cheers from fans ha!
Very happy that Gael made it. When he will finish his career, tennis will lose one of its most extraordinary facies bringing smiles and purest joy. 😊 Congratulations for Giovanni. We will no doubt hear more about this very promising young man. 👏🏻 Allez, Messieurs! 💪🏿🇨🇵
Some matches are decided by one singular point. The smash on set point in the first set tie-break. It was really strong to fight back after that. A lot of players would have given up.
У перрикарда на самом деле подача невероятный ни разу не подведил мой фаворит перрикар но Монфис это легенда за свой 38 лет он двигаеться 20летний пацан я рад Монфиса✊🏻👏🏻
Great Great great match ! Giovanni Mpetchi Perricard had the first set in his racket but Gael Monfils always bringing back one extra ball, such a fighter! GMP should improve his net play
One of the matches you would wish both could win, both incredible good and humble players, Perricard should practice on his volley puttaways a bit more, a great player with incredible one-handed backhand.
I wish Gael had had a more spectacular career. Being around the same age as Murray, I always thought he had more talent, but he got injured a lot. Imagine HIM being one of the big four, being the entertainer he is…
Très beau match même si Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard était particulièrement tendu. Ses coups droits étaient souvent beaucoup trop courts pour déborder Gaël Monfils.
For 38 years, monfils is moving unbelievably good. One of the best matches of the tournament so far.
Son problème au talon est résolu, super nouvelle pour lui , maintenant c’est enchaîner les longs matchs qui risque de le flinguer

It's as much his ability to read Perricard as anything - if you always know where to run it's easier to get there.

how easily they lower our standards in such a short span 😢

it's funny he always looks exhausted after each point (usually it begins in the third set) it scares me idk if it's an act cuz he runs a lot ^^
