The original is better. Still, I have some things to say about this one.

All American Remakes of Asian horror movies are terrible and dumbed down, can't stand them.
They should start talking English more often in their films so this can't happen.

@Lauren Perfetto well I first watched the original and I was bummed that I can't understand what they are saying and there are no English subtitles, coz the movie seemed interesting.
I liked the Grudge American versions
Main male lead is a Canadian
So with you on this - The Thai original is worth a watch. The spirit shown sitting on his shoulders in the end seemed to me an excellent metaphor of feeling the weight of your guilt. Too bad that they just show her hugging Joshua Jackson from behind in the remake. The original image really stayed with me.
Yah that last scene with him slumping over terrified me!
I'd recommend "Grave Encounters" for an innovative ghost movie.

Definitely need to give the Thai version a watch, love a good ghost film thats also kinda psychological, and as someone else has suggestes, give Grave Encounters a watch, its a fun take on the found footage style of film that is genuinely creepy

And, yes, the hearses in Japan are...like a temple on wheels. I believe they are expensive to get though, so most people use ordinary looking cars. When I cross the rainbow bridge ( hopefully like 50 years later) I hope my hearse is in the shape of the Cat Bus from Totoro.

I just love the idea of him having Megumi rest on his shoulders all the time, it literally harkens back to "the weight on your shoulders" because of what he did and also have that be an act of affection. The writer of the original obviously has a lot of talent.
Not talent but good insight. Her sitting on his shoulders represented the weight of guilt which was clever

10:20 Each time I watch this, I feel like I’m even more impressed by her acting. The shock, horror, fear, outrage, and disgust with a dash of betrayal (at pretending to be something he’s not? At pretending to be a decent human who married her? At pretending to believe no one deserves what he did to her or sat back and watched?) You can hear her breaking under the weight of everything she does and does not know, but she’s trying to stay angry and ride the injustice of it all instead of falling to pieces. It’s so good. That screamed knowing accusation 🤧👏

I saw the original one and not this one. Good to know it wasn't worth my time. There are a crap ton of good Asian horror movies. If they make it to Netflix you won't be disappointed.

I get that you wouldn't be thinking clearly, but surely there's a thousand other things you'd try first; even in a panic. Although I suppose it may have ruined the tension if it showed him trying to suck her up in a vacuum cleaner.

This is just a lousy westernized bastardized version of an Asian thriller. Good looking ladies but lousy story script and acting
I like this movie, but mainly due to the sad vipes
I adored the original movie and a few years after I watched it, I was watching horror movies with a few friends?? And we found this one on Netflix (and for a second or two I thought it was the original), but when we started it and it wasn't the original we still decided to watch it. Gotta say, all of us were disappointed that evening.

Fuck sake. Always love having to adjust the volume. Can't hear your dialogue, turn the volume up, then the sound effects blow out the speakers.
Weird how this is influenced by Japanese ghost, but the original is Taiwanese, not Japanese, lol. They can't even get the culture right, shame.

Ugh, this movie was such garbage compared to the Thai version. It was literally boring and the scares tried too hard and weren't effective at all.
I definitely recommend you watch the Thai version of this movie. It was WAY scarier than the English remake. :)
The original Thai film of the same name is wayyyyyyy scarier than this shit show. It was so scary that the original version was banned from many countries, including India. No theatre wanted to show it over here, even many years after it's release.

Ben sitting in a chair while his wife slowly walks up to him just got him to turn around and yell has to be one of the stupidest jump scares I have ever seen. Right up there with people freaking out when a phone rings

Never watch remakes of Asian horror they OWN that genre the remakes are just crap.
Thing I don't get about ghosts is the the earth, solar system and galaxy are all rocketing through space. So where someone died is not actually where they died, that spot is 1000000 km away in space.
Everyone knows when you die you just like hand around where you died, doing....you know...spooky stuff
It's the same thing with time travel. You need a machine that moves you in both time _and_ space, or you might end up parking a Delorian in the middle of the emptiness of space. Even the solar system and the galaxy itself are moving all the time.

The original one from Thai is much better, Hollywood only knows how to do jump scare. Asian is master of ghost movie as they know how to create good suspense.

This is a movie my mom rented for me when it first came out on dvd because I loved horror movies and Joshua Jackson. It's a movie I never forgot because it was kind of horrific to see Joshua Jackson play in this role when I was used to him as Pacey Witter.

Great video, 100% accurate about the remake being shit compared to OG. Reminds me of Spike Lee's version of Oldboy, which is a steaming pile of shit while the original is a masterpiece. Thanks for keeping me entertained
