Great job explaining the basics. Some great tips
I bypassed my seat safety switch like you suggested in the video, when checking if my hydrostatic transmission was synchronized, the tractor rolled over my foot and drove thru the garage door!
Some really good tips for new tractor owners...I'm sure it will help quite a few folks. With respect to the brake only braking a single wheel and needing to do the diff lock to do both..that is not working as intended. That means that your braking mechanism is out of adjustment and needs to be tweaked. When properly set, the diff lock applies as the brake mechanism is engaged. From the factory, my brakes were completely out of adjustment so that I had "zero wheel braking". Luckily, my land's pretty flat and the hydro's braking effect is sufficient for my needs. I had the tractor hauled back to the dealer for warranty issues (and the brake thing was one), and when it got back, the brakes were set incorrectly basically the opposite of yours..ie the diff lock was engaged all the time even when the brake pedal was not being pressed. Luckily, I had already purchased the service manual (dvd version...get one if you don't already) and I was able to follow the directions there in order to properly adjust the whole brake mechanism so that my brakes continued to work and the diff lock portion was only engaging when I pressed the pedal. With the rear of the tractor jacked up so both wheels are off the ground, it's easy to verify if all of that is working as expected.
It would seem I misspoke. Mine is working correctly though. I have seen hundreds of posts about the diff lock linkage getting broken. That part isn't built very well on our machines.
Thanks for reminding me 👍
