    Nice video. I was able to stop work at 55, took up road cycling then and have had a better last 13 years (now 68) than the previous 13, which were pretty tough. Now finding competing priorities (but good ones, like helping my kids and grandkids ❤) affecting my cycling, but I wouldn’t be able to do some of those things now if I hadn’t stayed fit and well in the meantime. 👍

    Hey Simon, I’m 56 and took up cycling 11mths ago. Best I’ve felt in years and I swear it’s like turning back the clock. Still think there is a long way to go and I’m looking forward to putting in the effort. Off in my first bike travel this week to TDU.
    Love your message and that video is superb. 👌

      Congrats!!! I took it up at 60 ( now 62). Painful first summer only to discover I had dreaded prostate cancer 😮. Got operated and biking has been the most amazing form of getting fitter than I've been in decades.

    Another great video, Simon - thanks! I find your content to be inspirational as well as informative, and I'm very much on the same page as you. At 56, I'm still pushing myself on the bike and in the gym to help increase my healthspan, not just my lifespan (Peter Attia talks a lot about this in his book, 'Outlive'). Because I'm training smarter and harder than I did in my 20s and 30s (as well as eating better), I don't notice any real performance loss compared to then, and I'm happy to see that I'm still getting fitter and stronger. Looking forward to more great videos!

    Great video..I agree with you keeping fit as we get older is a must..I'm 60 and like to think I'm quite fit but out of the blue was hospitalised a year ago which knocked a lot of my confidence about life...All that training over the years, then bang, you're not as fit as you think you are!! So ATM I just try and keep the fitness I have.
    What camera were you using there, were you descending with an invisible selfie stick?

    • @veloperformance

      I use the insta 360 in these videos. The editing options are 🤯 using a smart phone.

      @@veloperformance Simon what insta360 is it,that's what I'm looking to buy and how do you get the camera pointing at you when descending, an invisible selfie stick. I'm keeping ok now thanks, I get some flare ups which I can handle. Hard training sessions cause flare ups so it's mostly zone 2 I do so I'll probably plateau soon lol

    • @veloperformance
      @veloperformance  9 місяців тому +1

      Insta 360 x 3 and a selfie stick which the 360 deletes. You do all the editing in the app after. So you ride with it out front and then worry about how you want it to look later. The app makes it super easy. PS add strength training into the mix a few times a week that should help keep you strong and fast up hills and maintain good average pace. @@davestewartDWCC

    Tut tut, ALWAYS carry cash in Spain, especially when using those lovely little family restaurants. 🤣🤣🤣
    PS: Another great ride down there is Sierra de Espuna. Gorgeous climb and scenery out of Alhama de Murcia. You won't regret it.

    I like the idea of the video. Keep riding and exercising as you get older. Great message. But cycling as well as many other activities has a problem. It's the airmiles they use. Flying is very polluting. I like to ride in the warm as much as anyone, but another video from a flyaway locaiton doesn't help. I'm going to Malaga in March; by train. Yes it takes longer and costs more. But it's the right thing to do. If more people did the same the cost would come down.

    Nice vid. I almost went to Calpe for the first time , the week before Xmas, but was lazy and went for Majorca instead (which was quiet / great as usual). How do they compare to you ? (where Objective is good weather / good training roads)

      First time there. Weather was clear and sunny each day and hit 16/18 degrees most days. 6deg in the am though. Love Mallorca I feel though this is a better playground for routes.
