Didn't think of the ECU been chasing down issues where does it inaccurate fluctuation between just 50 to 100 r PMs and then all of a sudden it's skyrockets to almost 2,000 this video helped I've been replacing things left and right and I hate trying to chase down a ghost lol. You got another one of those for the 1.6 by chance for sale
That flashable chip you mentioned may be the EPROM people mess with to increase the rev limiter
I have been chasing the IDENTICAL idle issue on my 91. Car has a lot of miles and was neglected. Unlike you, I didn’t have all the parts to swap at my disposal. But I tested everything and all was ok. Pulled my carpet back and found water damage to the ecm. Thanks for making this series. Lots of help!!
It truly is amazing that car ran with a cpu/ ecu looking that way. Good thing you have extras around.

Nah, this is a necropsy, because that Miata is a beast for still running in that state
Too bad Mazda couldn't find a place behind the dash, higher up to mount that thing.
Unfortunately so much is back there already. Not much room in these cars for anything extra.
On newer models it's behind the passenger seat.
