I cannot begin to tell you how absolutely amazing it was to see David and Marc on stage. The atmosphere was electric and this just topped it off. Probably one of the best gigs I was ever at.
Absolutely awesome. David Gray, highly underrated great musician. Always loved his cover of this song, it possibly eclipses Jim Hendrix's cover of Dylan's All along the watchtower. I often thought what Marc would make of this version and here he gives it the gold seal of approval. Made my day to see this. And Marc/Soft Cell, despite your success, also highly underrated. I hope you all know how good you are. Amazing post, thanks.
@@celticcanoe You missed the point Sam. I just said David Gray's version its a really good cover that possibly took a song created by someone else and did it better, just like Jimi who copied Bob Dylan's song. 95% of the credit always goes to the original of course but occasionally there is a cover that is possibly better than the original. I prefer Jimi's to Dylan's and Gray's to soft cell's, thats all. I wasn't comparing any Soft Cell or David Gray song with any song that Jimi copied. Nothing that I wrote suggested that but in your words, wtf. Thanks for trolling me for no reason (and David Gray and Soft Cell who have more talent than you)
@@davidsmith6355 I definitely misinterpreted your point. Best covers of all time must include A Little Help From My Friends by Joe cocker. Hendrix’s cover of Watchtower still sends a chill up my spine. Amazingly I don’t think I was alone in the fact I had never listened to the Dylan version!
@@celticcanoe Hi Sam, thanks for your reply. Yeah, that Joe Cocker one is great too, but I am totally in agreement with you about Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower, its brilliant and one of my most favourite songs ever and has been for over 40 years ! Hendrix was of course a genius. 🙂 I was just complimenting David Gray by comparing him to that for the amount of change/improvement in a a song - the greater song is AATW of course, its unique and iconic.
Brilliant, David Gray has made this song his own, but you can never take anything away from the impact Soft Cell & Marc Almond had on 80's music. It's awesome seeing that these fantastic artist from the 80's are still performing.
I was there with my son to end off a thousand mile motorcycle holiday!! Absolutely amazing night my favourite song ever, thank you David for everything you’ve given to us fans👍🏻👍🏻
Wow, fantastic, and great of Gray to bring Almond along for this. Thank you for posting this video! Saw Gray's 20th anniversary tour in Boston on Saturday August 21th. It was rockingly awesome! I first picked up the White Ladder Album from listening to the tunes in a Barnes & Noble store before few were aware of how good this guy and his band are. They, and that album particularly, are hauntingly outstanding. Its good to be alive, and be able to enjoy such music. Cheers!
💜A classic tale of broken love.... One for the ages. It's obvious among other things. This was quite an inspiration to David as it was to the rest of us in its tarnished golden day....... Of course it would sit gently in David's lap, where he could easily wrap his soul around it and deliver the inspiration right back to the source..... Quite flawlessly as you would imagine. So here lies a gem for your ears and your soul to admire maybe with a salty tear or two...💧 Originally Marc Almond delivered it tellingly in his Gentle Magnificent way..... This is a nice crowd video here of David live in Dublin about 2 years ago bringing Marc on stage to share this one with him. Just watch and...... Be rewarded for your efforts. Sweet majesty‼️🎶
Sorry I missed this having been there Friday night everybody’s having a ball . Lovely happening ..Great to see The original singer of this song on stage . ( and the people who talk and chatter in the audience- Don’t disturb anybody? I’m afraid I can’t help it- talking just seems to bother me especially when it’s a quiet song)
It's rare that a cover sounds better than the original but I think David has achieved that with this song. He sings it with such feeling it's beautiful. Marc is obviously a legend though so it's just about personal preference for this song for me.
What the fuck is wrong with people having to talk during a gig like this??iwas there Saturday night, drunks taking shit sitting everywhere! The gig was awesome apart from that!
Thanks for sharing. But don't get me started on all those inconsiderate a-holes who chattered their way through the song. Why the fook bother going to a music gig if all you want to do is chat to your mates? Having Marc Almond come on stage was a big moment, not that it seemed to be noticed by these airheads.
I actually prefer David's version which is rare to prefer a cover to an original. It's my personal preference of course but I think David brings emotion and feelings to the song which I liked.
Great performance once again spoiled by people talking ! Why go to a concert to have a chat - totally disrespectful to the artist and the rest of the crowd. Happens everywhere now unfortunately 😢
Why on earth would you want to spoil such a beautiful song by adding David Grey? Soft Cell’s original was a masterpiece of it’s time, soft synths and a classic of that period. The only song by David Grey that I remember that for some reason made the charts was Babylon, the most boring song in my opinion ever recorded yet had chart success. ‘Babble on, Babble on’, that’s how I interpreted the song.
How bloody fantastic is this?? Thank you so much Tom Bakhurst for uploading this.

I actually got goosebumps watching this. Fantastic!
2 of the ultra best artists
Wow that's just brilliant ❤
This is so good, I've got something in my eyes

You are comparing Hendrix’s All Along The Watchtower with some pop singer covering this three chord durge! WTF are you taking?

The concert was amazing. A moment of pure joy. I love him so much.

Was so great to see them both enjoying singing this so much!

Ha, the 20th not the 21st, what was I doing? Enjoying the music again no doubt!
How great of Gray?
So insulting to call people by their last name . Makes you sound like they're inferior to you
Life is short, no insult intended, no need to turn positivity into negativity, best of good fortune is hoped.

Cooked Marc some food in Devilles Manchester ….. long time ok …
I was at gig at Birmingham world's resort on 26th May abso fantastic

what a talented song writer Marc Almond is

David Grey joined on stage by Ross Gellar doing an impression of 2022 Marc Almond
fuck me I cried trying to sing this

Love David Gray but his version will never be a match for Soft Cells.
I dont think he was trying to match soft cell, but as covers go, its a really good one. I love the original the best, of course
@@davidsmith6355 apparently reduced a classic to boringness

It's pitiful to see these lackluster street singers of the 2000s ruin these songs.
I like David Gray, but I can't get into 'Skellig'...

Bore off Joan. he's a brilliant artist and this video is amazing.
I disagree…this version is too fun when this ballad should be sad and deep. Didn’t work. 🥶
