Use strong magnets with a little hole drilled in the side so that you can pull the cover when you need to.

Have you thought about maybe a electric door opener? The hinge would open up and drop down into bed with no clearance problems. Just a idea. Use hinge on the inside and slide back into bed. I have never seen this done just a thought. Keep it up and be safe you guys are awesome!

I used those rare earth magnets, for the flap over my gooseneck hitch on my last truck, with a couple holes to stick a booger picker in, just like you guys, worked real well, and it holds it flipped open real nice too, and nothing to get crushed, you could drive something on it in the open position and it wouldn't crush a spring or something like that.

ya swan neck hatch needs a simple hinge, a couple of finger holes, and magnets to lock, needs lots of attachments yet, d rings to attach straps etc, tool boxes, which, but again Uri, tiz all looking very sweet

Might add some light conduit under the bed to run the wiring for the marker lights and the headache rack. Its way heavy and that to me is kinda counter productive with hauling a load across the scales. Go to the steel place and see if they can roll a piece that will meet your requirements for fenders over tires

Do like patch Mack said do a hideaway hinge and slot it so you can slide the plate off have 2 holes in it and some really strong magnets like door magnets

Great video. I've spent years fabricating everything from race car trailers, ramp trucks, utility trailers etc, so watching guys create things from standard-stock steel (plate, angle, channel, tubing etc ) really gets my mind going as to what to build next.

You need to weld some loops for tie downs on that bed somewhere so you can strap/chain loads down.

hold it in with magnets put a hole in it to lift it out but spray the top with raptor as when it gets wet it will be slick

I SECOND the magnet idea! Rare earth magnets...it won't take many! Hinge on the opposite side.

    • @houwant
      @houwant 3 роки тому +1

Hey guys, I would add, just use a small piece of steel...SUPER THIN... That would go between the magnet and the cover piece of diamond plate. You buy strong enough magnets, lol... Once you mount put them in place you will never have to worry about them! You just don't want the magnets to get the tar beat out of them and potentially crack or fracture. You can buy magnets that are strong enough where they would literally CRUSH a finger if it was put between it and metal... Science lesson for the day!

For your hitch door cover look up "180 Degree Extend Tip Out Hidden Hinge in Chrome", "Large Round Recessed Ring Pull", and "Cabinet Locks" that will get you all the exact parts you are looking for. The 180 degree hinge is pretty cool engineering.

Well done and that is an extreamly neat job you did on the bed, honestly that is a particularly good fabrication. We see you guys straightening out trucks and cars and bringing them back to life but you know how they should look and I'm not saying it's not difficult to do this as it takes a lot of skill to get those running again but you are kin of following a design that someone else had already made and you can get the parts needed to make it look good again, this is totally different as this is all on you guys your design your fabrication so honest well done 👏.

    nice strong deck for sure!
i wouldnt cut too much over the rear wheels or it will greatly weaken it there!
if more clearance is needed you need risers between the truck's frame and the deck.
now before this is all done all and i mean all metal needs to be painted or it will rust like mad!
i know tennesse dosent see much salt and vehicules dont rust too badly there! .would be a totally different deal where i live! lol
anyway! great build! looks real good and killer welds!
now i like the idea of a strong and semi truck inspired rear hitch design!
that will be strong and look good!
    i love the truck builds!
    keep it coming boys!
    great content! 💪

When you lift that plate from the centre of the bed it would be good if you could use a kind of buckle lock that you couldalso use as a handle for the flap plus you will need somewhere to stow that full panel when you remove it.
