- Wildfire smoke is pushing air quality in New York City to dangerous levels. Kids are being kept inside at school as officials urge everyone to avoid heading outside because of the Canadian wildfire smoke.

I live 1 hour north of the bronx and today it’s even worse then yesterday. I just stepped outside for a minute and I could smell the smoke. It’s like you can cut the air with a knife! Visually everything outside has a yellow-ish tint to it. Wild stuff

I'm on Long Island about 20 miles east of NYC and it was supposed to be 77 today. It's still 65 because of the smoke cover. The sky is literally orange!

I just love it how health " officials " say there nothing wrong, " but we are monitoring the situation". Typical of Americans!
They posted that the cancer causing particles are high in this smoke. I haven’t heard of any news saying it was okay. Just alerts . I think I read one of those in AccuWeather articles. Not sure but it’s definitely not safe especially telling people to wear masks if they have to be outside.

Staying inside is not enough because the pollution get inside. Turning on you air purufier at the max volume can significantly lower the level of pollution indoor .
But how long befor the filter is usless.

6 am yesterday morning the moon (or was it the sun?) was vivid red orange and the air quality was better able to breathe.

I'm 4 hrs. From NYC in upstate NY by PA border we've been smelling that smoke for the past 2 days.

The smoke smells inside my house. I have all my air conditioning going, and I am having significant breathing problems. I have asthma as well as neuro-muscular disease. This is no joke.

A/C does not pull in outside air. It cools and recirculates inside air and blows hot air outside.
That sucks for New York. My girlfriend went down there for work earlier this week and said it almost looked like the aftermath of 9/11 in terms of the hazyness of the sky. Up in Boston where i am it's clear. Hope this crap clears up soon
