When I breed my guppies I have java moss below and hornwort on top. I find this set up phenomenal. I get about 30 to 50 fry per drop and I have about a 95% survival rate. I notice they drop into the moss or go immediately up to hide in the hornwort. Hornwort does grow fast but I go in and cut it once a week. I put scissors in there and hack off half and it only takes me less than a minute and I'm done. 😊

If you had a shrimp tank, you could throw the moss in their tank and they would clean it for you. And if a baby shrimp ended up in the guppy tank... they are tender and delicious too!

Hello Michael. I just wanted to drop you some info about the Red Dragon tail.
I have about 9 at home and both male & female looks exactly the same after a few months and before they deliver. Colours fins, tail all perfectly identical, as much as most of the normal people would say I have only males in the tank. That is why that breed is my favourite. However I think your female will gain some color with time as well. Keep up the good work and Happy Breeding!

i started out with some mutt guppies and am well on the way to green and yellow cobras with some nice looking males and females. They're about 3 months old now and I don't think the females have given birth yet. I'm wondering what to do next....Been thinking of going towards some dumbos

Current beverage: ice water. After I added chunks of coral to my guppy tanks, I haven't had a single fry born with a jacked up back. Also, my guppy grass grows like weeds and I drive an Oldsmobile. So there!

Michael's Fish Room hi really new to the guppy hobby and had 2 batch of guppy fry and at least 2-3 fry with jacked up backs in each batch. Does the crushed coral help with the jacked up back?

I’ve been breeding Livebearers since I was like 7 or 8 years old and it sucks how people are starting to underrate these fish nowadays. Either ways they will always be my favorite breed of fish especially the Platies!
Platys are ok...besides guppies I like swords next!

I am enjoying a refreshing Black Cherry Sparkling Ice. I have Chickenless Chicken Filets, Brown Rice, and a salad for dinner. Now Guppies, I have read on the internet... If the female Guppy is bred to a new male, 80% of the new drop will be with the new male. I think I read that on an IFGA member's page. Female Guppies like my lady, like it hard.

Quick question for anyone that can help. I keep all my tanks in my basement (23 in total) and I have heaters in all of them besides one. It has ghost shrimp and snails rightnow. It is about 73 degrees and was wondering if guppies would do well in there or just keep them in my other tanks that are between 77 and 79. Thanks for any help and sorry if this sounds stupid. I guess we always have something to learn right?

Not a stupid question, but water with a high mineral count like calcium and magnesium is considered hard water. The way we measure it is in GH.

I'm just waiting now! ...and hoping! ...those females are getting pretty fat! I moved all 3 back into my 20g show tank...
the breeder tank is pretty bad right now... I can just move the fry over after I get it cleaned out... or move the females back!

Michael's Fish Room the ones here in California that I have been to it’s been that way, I bread guppies I was searching everywhere for virgin females and as we all know it’s hard to find them but not impossible. Every Petco I’ve gone too they have been virgin females and the ones that some how get pregnant they won’t sell them.
