The Basics for Keeping and Breeding Guppies - Aquarium Co-Op Highlights

  • Cory from Aquarium Co-Op is known for his knowledge on breeding and keeping guppies so today we look at some of the highlights from his experiences with guppies. Cory finally answered a question I had for the longest time: what is a muppy? Or you can say a golly also haha
The tips Aquarium Co-Op shares on breeding and keeping guppies made it seem really easy to breed any guppy. Unless, the guppy is one of the super expensive ones that die if you sneeze haha Always a great time hanging out with Cory from Aquarium Co-Op.

Thanks guys fantastic job. Need more of these back to basics vids to grow our community. Everyone seems to be getting caught up with high tech setups which can seem overwhelming for new starters. We sometimes forget the simple pleasures of just keeping these water critters.

Actually they don't store sperm for the rest of their lives . It's true that a mating is enough for a female to have several broods , but over a period of 6 moths , maximum one year the sperm storage will end and she will stop having fry is the meantime she has been kept separated from males .

I know it's supposed to be wrong but I run my African cichlid tank with no heaters. Grow-out tank has a heater but my main tank is hovering around 74 with no heater and as far as I can tell they're doing just fine. Given, the room my tanks are in has a stand alone heat/AC unit and the wall unit where the air comes out is right beside my bigger tank

I agree with this video. The guppies I had thirty years ago were far more hardy that could tolerate various temperatures, water quality issues, and food diversity. The current batch of guppies in the stories are too pampered weak fertilizer specimens destined to die shortly if anything goes wrong in the tank they habitate in.

The instructions say to mix one pack with 4oz of food with a little tank water im not wanting to waste that much food.

Had camallanus once. Horrible things to try and get rid of!! I used levamisole and...it worked, but it also killed the cycle in my tank. I was not aware of that until the ammonia was at something like 11, so I lost a lot of fish to that including my beautiful gold nugget pleco. As a side note, THE best bacteria in a bottle product is Dr. Tim's One and Only. I did a massive water change, added that, and ammonia was back down to 0 in less than 36 hours.

Is there a way you can tell if your female has become impregnated or would you just put a male and female in a tank of one day and then keep the female in there until she gave birth, great videos keep them coming.

Just got my guppies a couple days ago, I wake up and there's over 30 babies everywhere, not sure how many ill keep alive but they seem to be pretty easy but I can't find anything like brine shrimp to feed them, can I feed them crushed shrimp flakes? If so what are the cons to feeding them flakes instead of brine shrimp? Nice presentation, learned a lot

I wanted Guppies so bad ,but got scared when a lady had a tank full of them and some of them had bent spines and she told me that they might have fish tb .
I did some research and found out guppies and prone to get it. I honestly think she was overbreeding them because they looked healthy otherwise, but I’m nervous about it. I was going to buy a 125 tank from her but I’m not taking the chance.

Good one.. Goat de-wormer at the end was what i was waiting for.. I was told that Pig or dog de-wormer was the best and only effective option for treating livebearers for those red gat worms called Camallanus .. They are freaking me out!! The medicated food i tried did not do a thing.. Green swords, Limia, Guppies, have been hit with this. So this has been a problem for more than 2 months when I first noticed it. Probably more like 6 moths. I swear these might have come from a pair of Egyptian mouth hatchers around that time. The female died after 3 months of getting skinny and finally had a gaping wound in her stomach so I cooked her :/ .. My question is: Are my sword fry, guppy fry, and limia fry infected??I take them out as soon as i notice, and guppy females with week to go, go to a 54 l tank. The fry are from non infected female and infected. My limia fry havent been doing great lately, only 20% get to over 2cm and i worry Camallanus is the reason. I am about to kill off the rest of the obviously infected ones even though they dont look sick and it sucks. But might try to get my hands on some real meds to at least try it instead of just killing them since its a waste of life. What about the unhealthy guppies i have been giving to my friends bush fish being infected?? I have read about them in other fish than livebearers. Think they will digest them since they are kind of big but dont know. These bastards are a nightmare.. I have had the same strain/mix of guppies for over 6 years and I am for the first time in a critical state of having the colony collapse. I wish I had more pictures of the different males that have produced since i started. Had some crazy black tux lemon pastel tails pop up for some years and fantail endlers. I have only two left of what i call Peacock Emerald split/lyre-tail Endlers :) Had them in the mix for a long time. They seem to be the overall most consistant producer. Those and my Emerald snakeskins are my faves. Hope those will keep producing after I cut down population, weather it be due to bad effect of medication or me just cooking them. I am at the point of starting over. Dont know if having 9 aquariums is to my advantage right now or not lol .. Jesus. I have no life :D .. Thanks for another good vid.. Peace !! From København ..

I have been studying guppies for 55 years. And five years ago I saw homosexual behavior in male netgupping for the first time. That was very annoying, because I needed those guys to achieve my ideal. And I saw homosexual behavior at Endlers in the pet store last week. For safety's sake, I took a pair of a different breed. But unfortunately that male is also not interested in the female. Hopefully the female has been impregnated by another male. HOW DO GUPES BECOME/ARE HOMOPHIL?
