- Rosalie Tingman "Rochelle" Rock, (née Tingman) portrayed by Tichina Arnold, is one of the main characters in Everybody Hates Chris. Rochelle was inspired by the real Chris Rock's mother, Rose Rock. While Tichina Arnold and Rose Rock bear strong physical similarities, Rochelle's personality is over-exaggerated. Rochelle is a 36-year-old mother to three children (Chris, Tonya, and Drew) and an aggressive, hot-headed, loud, obnoxious, strict, firm, stern, feisty, humorous, sassy, sometimes insane, but very kind and loving wife to Julius Rock. Rochelle often exaggerates to her children how "she'll slap them into next week" or "slap them into another nationality". Even though she can be angered very easily, she can be softened up with a "Yes ma'am" or "I'm sorry". Rochelle loves to eat chocolate turtles; whenever she gets nervous, she eats them.

2:12 I really love scenes like this. Rochelle may be unreasonable sometimes, but you can always tell how much of her energy is spent worrying about the wellbeing of her kids. You can clearly see how torn she is here, her desire for her son to have the chances in life he deserves at odds with her desire for him not to be miserable every day of his childhood. These are the kinds of hard choices she probably agonizes over, but puts up a stern front so her kids don't know how much it hurts to have to make that kind of decision...

She wasted 200 dollars worth on food stamps, because she was embarrassed and didn't pay for the light bill...
I could go on...
And she was willing to let Tanya starve to death because of proving a point until Julius intervened and made her something to eat...
And she kick Chris out of the house because she was mad at him. In the last season...

Julius hid a credit card form her for 15 years, he was MARRIED to another woman the whole time they were together and never told her.
She got pregnant because he bought his cheap condoms from Risky. none of that is disrespectful???
Because Julius made the entire house stink too bad they couldn’t breathe. Even people on the street could smell him, cats were literally circling him. Drew and Tanya didn’t even want to go to the amusement park with him because he stunk so bad. so yeah he needed to quit.
yeah, that judge was corrupt and used his position to get woman while punishing people for nothing. i’d have cursed him out too.
Rochelle was bad with money, but Julius gave away a lot of money too. there was a whole episode where he gave away hundreds (maybe thousands) because he worked at a funeral home.
but mostly she supported him, even did Kwanza even though she loves christmas. she gave up her chocolate turtles and he STILL bought lottery tickets. he gambled away a lot of money too.

One thing i couldn't wrap my mind around is why couldn't Chris' parents in this show send him to the same school his siblings attended and the dad Julius had two jobs that paid really well
The brother had his sports and karate, his karate protected him. Tonya was the Princess- she was not academically smart. Chris was the oldest, seen as a third parent. He was the one who was book smart and had potential in their eyes, even though they was hard on him, they wanted him to get a good education. They wanted Chris to succeed. Many families have one child like this 😂
