- Looting enemies and objects is a central part to the gameplay of Breath of the Wild - but how exactly do the stats behind drop rates work? Today we will be diving deep into the probability system this game uses to determine how monster and object loot is awarded - to hopefully help you understand this for your future playthroughs!! I hope you all enjoy :)

Thanks for giving us all this yummy info. Love your vids
I had a question for the "your stats questions" series, what are the criteria for a boss bar to appear at the top of the screen? Like with Hinoxes and the six versions of Ganon (including the four blights, Calamity and Dark Beast), for example. I ask because during a stream on Twitch - won't say the name - did a crowd control stream and one of the actions caused Thunderblight to appear and despawn, but the boss bar was still on screen.

Woah woah, I never knew Breath of the Wild had lootboxes. Shame on them. 😱
Omg hello man I love your vids
Hi
hello NBC
Hhhhmmmmmmmmmm I know you
Why hello there.
I remember getting 2 giant ancient cores and 2 ancient cores from a single guardian. Now I know that that had a 0.000000016% chance of happening if I did the math right.
I would have to calculate it myself but all i know is that its gonna be a lot of 0s 😅
Same
I believe the calculation is simply 0.5%x0.5% or 0.005x0.005= 0.0025 which is 0.000025 or 0.0025%
True for the giant cores - but the 2 normal cores should make that probability number a bit higher!
@@Croton Yeah, the reason I said " if I did the math right" is because I didn't know if I had put down the right number of 0s XD
Another addition to the stats of the wild, my life has meaning again.
Hell yeah

Croton: YOU CAN GET MORE LOOT BT CHOPING ITS LEGS OFF
Lol!
Yeah, taking that out of context makes him sound like a phychopath.
lmao
"More body parts by chopping its legs off."
Technically if you take it out of context, then yeah, but if you keep it in context, then no.
Funfact: The Lynel on the Gerudo NEVER drops its arrows. Its the only Lynel in the game to wield normal arrows.
As someone who has obtained all the amiibo armors, farming Star fragments to upgrade them all to the max is extremely tedious. Thanks for this vid and for the info on the best way to get them the fastest. I wish there was a special vendor who would appear if you've played over 500 hours and just sell Star fragments, Giant ancient cores, Diamonds, etc. That would be a nice reward for those who've spent a ton of time in this game.
I'm happy to have helped you out then!! Having a star fragment seller would be interesting considering there are a lot of great uses for them, but I'm sure they didn't add one because they wanted them to be super rare - and having a shop would undermine that a bit
Hello
You can buy diamonds for an expensive 1000 rupees.
But yeah I agree.
@@weebsquit347 the problem with all of the shops late game is they have finite supplies each blood moon, and as such its not a viable solution to get large amounts of rare stuff you need even if you have near limitless rupees
Rick Muller I have all the amibos
I love how botw still has a thriving community. It shows how much stuff there is to do.
Also partially because there’s still players looking for those 900 Koroks… Lol

Literally a wooden pot lid when used right: I have no such weaknesses *
Busts my myth that the loot enemies drop is based on how Link performed in defeating them. Also busts my myth that the tougher an enemy was the better loot they dropped. Thanks for the enlightenment!
Once I found 2 giant cores and 2 cores from a stalker. Afterwards I slowly stood up and began running around screaming.
Once I found out Botw 2 was coming out. Then I started yelling about how the new clothes would be so aesthetic instead of talking about the important stuff
Loot boxes: we all hate them but if Croton makes a video about it, we watch it.
The star fragment rate is interesting. In my first normal playthrough, I never saw a Star Fragment drop from a Lynel. It wasn't until I fought Silver and Gold Lynels in Master Mode that I started getting them. This made me think they were Master Mode exclusive drops other than watching the night sky.
I wish I had realized the truth sooner.
I usually rely off Lynels to get them because I hate having to look in the sky haha - plus they're fun to fight 😅 Glad I could help you out though!! :)
@@Croton I’ve never got one from the sky, nevertheless I have 25
@@Croton
What is about rupees from stones? Once I got a golden 300 rupee, how are the odds and can every stone drop them?

I found that you can farm star fragments by warping to Shee Vaneer Shrine at the top of dueling peaks. Go to a flat ledge down below the shrine and set up a camp fire and sleep with wake up time night. (if you stay up near the shrine you will be pestered by Stalkoblins) Then face east with Hateno Tower in your view. Shooting stars will appear between 9:00 PM and 3:30 AM, and they will disappear at 5:00. And they will fall within the direction your camera faces. When you see it fall warp to Hateno Tower and you will almost always be able to paraglide to it from there to get it. It involves some waiting but in an hour you may get ten or so star fragments. And that will be all you would ever need.
Man U guys are really so pro… too bad I never even leave the dye shop for like two hours lol
7:59
Wait did you just said there is oil in botw?
*usa anthem intensifies*
I winced so hard when he just walked away without that savage lynel crusher 😬 8:55
Not gonna lie, I got 3 Ancient Cores from a single Stalker. Now THAT'S Dream luck.
That’s nothing. Lol. I got four.😜
Once I got 2 Giant Ancient Core from a single guardian, I was amazed from that drop lol.
once got 4 no cap
I expected the star fragment drop rate to be much lower. Farming them with that trick with the campire still seems better.
Hey Croton! I've had this thought that the Guardians are basically this games version of Beamos. I've had this thought for a while, and when you mentioned the unused Beamos loot table, I decided to tell you about it. I guess the Guardian Scouts would be Armos, if my theory is correct.
Well this explains the Eldin Ostritch dropping two Raw Whole Birds:
----- Animal_BirdFire -----
Normal - x1-2
80.0% - Raw Bird Thigh
20.0% - Raw Whole Bird
One time I hunted and killed a bird in Death Volcano and it dropped both a Raw Bird Thigh and a Raw Whole Bird. My father was watching and he wondered how it did that. He thought the Eldin Ostrich that I killed had 3 legs.
GAME THEORY lol you're getting that because eldin ostritches commit cannibalism, and you're getting a second, not fully digested whole bird from its stomach
I have a question about arrows getting stuck in wooden shields. Does collecting the arrows with the shield reduce the chances of the enemy dropping a stack of arrows?
yeah i have ate all of them you will never get arrows again mmm yumy sluuuuurp
I have a question: In my experience with the game, I had come to the conclusion that defeating an archer enemy without getting hit by their attacks would always reward you with an arrow bundle drop, especially for foes with elemental arrows. Is there any data taking this factor into account, or is this just a misconception based on player experience?
From what I've seen, they have to not fire at all to drop arrow bundles, but yeah.
Here’s what I’m thinking: the archer mobs drop arrows when they die because they haven’t used it yet, and I’m thinking they have around 5-13 (just rough estimation). Anyways, so if they don’t shoot at all before you kill them you should get around my rough estimation. I’m not sure about how many arrows they normally have but I never fight so I wouldn’t know but my dad sometimes plays on my account and yeah the quicker he kills the archer mobs the more arrows he gets. I don’t have exact information but those are my results. I think we might be onto something, fellow theorist!
Yeah, all archer enemies will drop arrows if you kill them without them shooting
This is a misconception.
Enemies have infinite arrows, same with weapons. They don't worry about durability.
You can test both of these out by simply letting yourself get shot by an archer enemy. As you can see, no matter how many times they fire, their quiver never runs out, and their bow never breaks. Give an enemy a weapon you have that's near its breaking point and they'll start swinging it and never break it! You can pick it back up after and find it's at the exact same durability as when you last used it.
What you see is purely nocebo from selective memory bias (forgot the proper term for the psychological phenomenon, whoops)
Just as was explained in the video, enemies that can drop arrows will always drop them according to the table listed.
In fact, if you want more arrows that badly... Let them shoot you! The first 5 arrows an enemy fires can be picked back up! Assuming they missed or you blocked it with a wooden shield. Metal and other shield types erase arrows they block into oblivion... No idea why.
In earlier versions of the game, this limit used to not exist, so people came up with a way to get infinite arrows by just getting shot by enemies for a while.
This only works for normal arrows though, elemental arrows when fired are destroyed on impact, and bomb arrows... Well... Explode.
If it's raining though, enemy fired bomb arrows are duds and CAN be picked back up! Neat, huh?
One thing I found out on my own was that zora's domain was always a great place to get arrows.
Before I used to use fast travel and with every bloodmoon I would fast travel to zoras domain and work my way down. Around 80-120 arrows per run.
Yeah, that's my favorite way of gathering arrows too. Other methods may technically be faster, but they're much more boring.
Everytime I learn about how this game works makes me appreciate it even more. God I love this.
I love these stat videos, keep up the good work!
I'm glad, thank you! :)
I went on a guardian spree (all guardians in zora champions ballad hyrule castle and akkala) and no giant ancient cores I was mad cuz that’s what I wanted
9:28 love the heroic tal tal heights theme :)
Well put together, informative and easy to follow!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!!! Thank you 😄
There was a time when I was farming guardians for parts to get the final upgrade to the ancient gear, and I got THREE GIANT CORES from ONE guardian. And I popped off like my life depended on it.
I never would have thought to ask about this, but WOW was this interesting! It's the information I never knew I needed XD
Thanks for the video! I love learning more about one of my favorite games. :)
Keep up the amazing work and keep making these awesome stat vids Croton!

Very informative video! Great work!
Man I can't wait for your next series, found in that dope new game on November 20th-!
Nice job! I have a request, something that I would be very interested in. In your cooking video, you showed good places to farm some ingredients. I was wondering if you could do so on enemy farming as well, if that's ok.
Wait, you can blow up the Talus’ arms with bombs?! 350 hours playing this game and I never knew that.
I'm thinking about setting a long term goal about maxing out the defense of every single piece of armor with the great fairies, so this is very helpful
I just started playing and my sister did too I didn't think I would like zelda games now it's my favorite game and I'm happy people still play it
Awesome video bro!
Rarest thing ive gotten was a gaurdian skywatcher that dropped 6 giant ancient cores. I took like 40 screenshots out of shock
So, lorewise, why do Lynels carry Star Fragments? Do they like them and go around picking them up?
Or (unlikely but metal) are they born from the meteors?
I had a lynel which dropped 2 star fragments at the same time... I've never been so happy
I had my wife drop a baby daughter at the hospital one night. . . . . I've never been so happy.

Just your average Croton dropping another rather neat video
Thanks, very helpful as im playing through master mode for the first time 🙏

Really cool video! I was wondering the odds of me finding a Diamond in a normal ore deposit yesterday, and man was I lucky
Thank you so much for those videos !
You should do stat videos for Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition! I’d be interested in seeing the drop rates for those amiibo too as sometimes you’ll get between a single rupee and 50,000 or gold tier materials! I remember getting Ganon’s Fang very early on after buying it.
Super interesting video!! I was playing earlier today and thought: hmm how would all of the loot drops work? So this came at exactly the right time! :)))
:O
Ooh perfect timing!! Glad I could get this out then 😄
Did anyone else used to think that bokoblin horns were the horns they use to alert the other bokos in the camp? Only after like 80 hours of play through did I actually read the description of the item and realise that it was the severed horn.
YES! just the video I wanted and needed!!
You are my favourite youtuber keep up the amazing work
After roughly 40 guardian kills the probabilaty to get at least 1 giant ancient core gets boosted to 90%
If we take into account that all the legs that you can cut off may also drop it it takes 23 guardians for the same probabilaty
after your 18 guardian kills the probabilaty is only 63% without the legs
and about 83% with the legs
100k is around the corner! Go Croton Go!
Love your videos bro❤
Thank you! :)
Croton, thank you for the video. What is the drop chance of getting a deku leaf and what trees/what locations do I need to deal with?
Yes i love this. Thank you this helped a lot
Ironically lynels are still the best way to get star fragments for me lol.
It also seems like of you finish an archer enemy with a bow shot to they head, they always drop arrows.
Can't wait for next Friday
Wow thanks, that's a lot of info^^
No problem!! I'm glad you enjoyed 😄
Keep up the good content
Ur vids are so. Useful
News flash, lynels are actually lootboxes
4:15 ah yes my favorite type of boko green
Can you make a video about the weather and the rate at which it rains or thunders and how there can be "Fake Rain" (sun icon but still raining) and wind appearance rate/direction?
I LOVE YOU CROTON!!!
I wish UA-cam didn’t make a redirect site because my iPhone doesn’t allow me to go to youtube.com, yet oddly I can open the app.
This was a good video!
Thank you!! :)
I've gone star fragment hunting many times at She Vaneer, just to pick them up for awhile. I've always gotten as many as I wanted.
I remember when I spent hours trying to get ancient cores because the guardians kept dropping giant ancient cores instead of normal ones.
This is so useful
Hey Croton, I was doing some farming over at the Akkala, and on the citadel side of the broken bridge with the Hylian fighting a black Moblin, I found a guardian with a rusty claymore in its neck. What do you think that's about?
Here’s two things that I discovered in breath of the wild:
1. You can chop down those wooden tower things (, sometimes there’s an enemy on top or some bomb barrels, also they’re mostly near our bono pan camp).
2. When a guardian stalker is defeated you can still chop off the legs before it explodes.
Bonus: (in my research,) Silver and gold enemies not including Linels Camp Perry.
I meant can, not camp, sorry.😅
You deserve more subs
LET'S GO NEW VID
4:12 let's go, secret Green Bokoblin?
I'm glad someone else noticed. Guess it's time to go look for the legendary green bokoblin
He meant red/blue Bokoblins and green/blue Lizalfos, lol
10:28 ya hate to see a long throw biggorons sword
Seeing the giant ancient core drop rate makes me feel lucky because I defeated 2 guardians and they both gave me 2 giant ancient cores without reloading, and why do I find giant ancient cores more frequently then the regular ancient cores and ancient springs?
4:13 green bokoblins lol
*lizalfos haha
Dang this was cool
BRO, i´m literally trying a 999 materials run, you´re a LIFESAVER
Always wondered if skywatchers did drop more giant cores because it felt like they did but i might just be because i prioritised going after skywatchers.
I like the Video a lot because l have a problem farming giant ancient cores
