Fig for a Kiss + Breakout (LOTD, Ronan Hardiman) - Irish Fiddle Tunes! | Katy Adelson

- Happy St. Paddy's Day! Here are some fun Irish Fiddle Tunes: A Fig for a Kiss, which is a slip jig, and Breakout, which is a modern tune by Ronan Hardiman for Lord of the Dance. Both of the tunes have a "slide" vibe to me, so I tried to play them kind of bouncy. I hope that you like this version of the tunes! They are fun tunes to mix into things.
A lot of people like the Breakout tune but don't always realize it's not a trad tune -- it also sounds nice with Coleraine. I'm an advocate for mixing old and new tunes together in a set, even though I know some people don't really like that... I just think there is a lot we can learn from the old tunes and modern music. We can mix some of the jazzy modern stuff with some of the traditional music and make something fun and different.
I recorded this footage back in 2020 in Crested Butte, Colorado. I went car-camping around that area during the pandemic as a bit of an escape. It is a beautiful place! The hiking footage is from a small scientific research town nearby called, "Gothic." I was hoping it would be a little more cloudy and misty to create a mythical vibe for the video, but it was super dry with lots of sunshine for the entire visit. We were actually having a lot of bad fires at the time...I'm glad those have been put out...
I feel like I've been struggling trying to feel creative with all the stuff that's been going on these past few years with the pandemic, fires, and now the war...I'm hoping I'll be able to shake out of this. I'm glad that I had written down all my ideas before the pandemic started. Reading over that list helps me move back into the mindset that I had had before all of this started...
Thank you for watching, and I hope you have a good rest of the week! =) Please stay safe!
~ Katy

I love the swing and the bounce of this song. It has a happy skipping sound with sharp little accents in it. Absolutely delightful. Love it. Thank you so much.
❤❤❤❤❤❤. Semper fidelis. USMC. Never stop playing for life, and peace. Nature! Love listening to you sweet heart 💜.
We love you Katy
This kind of music is one of the best things about being alive.
Nature is beautiful!
Gifted musician
A great mix. Trad Music is folk music, it evolves as the “folks” play what they like in the style of what’s suited to the instruments and the folk-type music settings - which traditionally means acoustic instruments in a setting meant to be enjoyed by means of simple, honest, musicianship. No reason there can’t be modern songs that continue that tradition.
you give all us violininst are insperation katy

As to your comments-if ever we need your insightful music it is now. Don’t you dare let the things happening in the world cloud you. You are a bright star in the darkness.

"We can mix some of the jazzy modern stuff with some of the traditional music and make something fun and different"
Quoted for truth. The real tradition is innovation.
Great performance
Beautiful youg lady! And about time, you have been missed! Take care.
I see this is a fairly recent post. Just a fantastic mix Katy. I'm trying to add more Irish tunes to my rep, as they significantly lighten the mood compared to the Scottish ones. Will definitely give this a try; thank you so much. This may be a meld of two separate tunes but they really do seem to flow into each other, with a delightfully wide range on the scales.
It was great together both. I always love your mixes and versions
Just as beautiful as always. Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I don't know how I missed this yesterday but it's the perfect way to start my Sunday morning.
Thanks for putting a smile on my face, again!
This chick rules.

Thanks for sharing with us! What is your practice routine like? At the rate I’m going I don’t ever foresee playing as proficiently.
I really like the viseo work you put into your musical videos. Very professional.
Thanks Katy that makes me look forward to spring. I almost thought your video was showing Colorado now, but I'm sure you still have mounds of snow to melt like here in Toronto Canada.

Класс:)
Do you have special mics for recording outside, or do you record inside, and just take the video doing it again outside? How do you ensure you are syncing the audio to the video during editing?
I usually record inside and film the video separately, but not always - I have recorded outside (it’s just a lot harder to do since there are usually cars honking, or dogs barking, or people clapping and asking if they can leave a tip, which is nice of them…stuff like that…). The biggest enemy of a recording studio outside is wind, but they have fluffy windscreens you can put around your microphone. They don’t work well in high-wind situations, but they work great for light breezes. They are often referred to as “dead cats” by video creators (…😭 I love cats…), which I believe is a brand - but it basically looks like a blob of fluff that you put on your microphone.
Syncing is a headache, and probably my least favorite thing to do. For every scene, I usually play the whole song while listening to the backing track with headphones. Then I just align all the different violin scenes with the backing track in my video editor, and edit to different takes where there aren’t people walking around the background, or I’m not making scary concentration faces while I play, lol…
@@KatyAdelson oh, cool! Thanks for telling me!
