      Yeah, the system looks pretty good. Not too complicated, but effective.

    I still question the practicality of this system: When one is under stress, one of the first thing we lose is fine motion control. So, how are we going to be able to grab a hand, much less a finger, when we know that people fighting often completely miss their target (a whole body!) when hitting. The other thing is that stress reduces the sensitivity to pain, so someone with a two broken fingers can continue to punch and great damage to your own face. I view this as a practical set of tools to reduce a type of "ego" conflict (the one that make people red in the face), when de-escalation didn't work and right before the person hits us. But for "survival" fights (the ones that make people white in the face), I have strong doubts that this can be of any help... any opinions from true experience ? People who have really used it in stressful situations ? Just curious... with all the respect I have for Wally Jay ( I lived in Alameda for 8 years..)

      Chris Peytier i dont think small jiujitsu is a complete system for fighting, nowhere near it, but it has some useful things that can be added to your arsenal

      Yes, this is a sound comment. I can think of some contexts, such as to "calm down" a threatening opponent getting "out of its mind", without having to give him major injuries, it can be very useful.

      Hello Chris. I've trained SCJ, among other arts, for some years now. Don't think of using a 'style' in a fight; you use all methods at your disposal and whatever is needed in that moment. BJJ -for example- is a great martial art; but horrible by itself for self-defense. SCJ is more of a concept than anything; those concepts can be used for small joint manipulation, larger joint locks, throws (don't forget Wall Jay was also a Judo black belt), and more. I've been told by a number of people that "you cannot grab fingers in a fight." I assure you 100% you can. I've done it in real fights and in full-contact kumite. I have teachers who are law enforcement who use those concepts on the job. But, if the opportunity isn't there, of course you do something else (ie kick, punch, elbow, lock, throw, choke, whatever). It is true that under stress, technique starts to go out the window. That is why, I believe, to be efficient at one's art, you have to more than just dril, drill, drill; you have practice stress drills and practice it while fighting (sparring/kumite).

      Training....same thing with drawing and shooting a gun when small motor control is necessary.

    I watched a few classes in Mass while I was trying to figure out what art I wanted to train in. I notice the 10th degree blackbelt teacher did not show any way to block punches. I asked him to demonstrate blocks for me after class. He told me to try to punch him and I did. He blocked me using both arms for the first couple of punches. Then I faked a straight hand right and came in with a straight left. If I wanted to I would have clocked him in his skull. Needless to say I did not go back.

      Yup. i used to do scjj in mass back in the 90's. The instructor looked impressive until, travelling bjj blue belts came in and mopped the floor with the whole club incuding the instructor and when we did the scjj punch deflections (basically wing chun based shit) there was a real amatuer boxer that once came into train and when the teacher demonstrated on him, you could clearly tell that boxer could have landed a 6 punch combo on him but he was being nice and didnt waNT TO EMBARASS THE GUY. Oh and btw, the instructor was not just a black belt but basically is now the highest ranking guy of all of small circle jj and was supposed to be the inheritor of the system but Wallys son got jelous and kicked him out of the official smjj ranking. But infact he is way better than Leon Jay. leon is a piece of crap.

      @@Seegie16 If you were looking for a martial arts for competition and sport, there are certainly other systems that might meet your needs. Small Circle Jujitsu is a self-defense system. Wish you the best!

    Illegal in combat sports, completely unrealistic in a self-protection situation. Maybe only for cops treating an arestee brutally or a bouncer escorting someone out.

    • @jodystewart9028
      @jodystewart9028 6 років тому +1

      This isn't Brazillian JJ. In other forms of JJ, red is between brown and black.

      In our system, red is below black belt or under belt. I know this might be confusing.
