Thank you!
I'm Dutch and I do the same, it's fun to watch what other people experience and think when they move to Europe.
And it's also interesting to see some things we take for granted from a different point of view. When you live somewhere for all your life you get used to things that (as a foreigner can point out) are not that normal as you think.
Totally agree, me too :) Most comments under videos where foreigners talk abous CR or Prague are from Czechs

Překvapuje mě kolik lidí nechápe humor 😀 Podle mě jsou tvá videa vtipná a rozdíly mezi Američany a Čechy mě baví :)
The problem why Czech people didn't find the joke funny is because too many foreigners think it's true. I am Czech living in US. I was talking to some guy and told him I am Czech and he answered: "aww that's great. I have a friend who also comes from Russia!" And that happens to me literally all the time!
Putting away the fact the country they connect us with was our occupants...I guess you would also not find it very funny if literally everyone you say you are from America would answer that it's awesome you are from (for example) Mexico! Lol
Love your videos! Keep it up! :)
More sad is that many people thing we were part of USSR, be part of USSR and be satellite country is big difference.
That might be a great opportunity to make some fun of it. :o)
Mexico? Try UK. :-D Try to tell an American that you like being in a British colony or have always wanted to go to the UK. :-D And if he didn't kill you, ask him how far the capital is. London. :-D I am really curious how they will react. :-D
Oh my god, I would be SO IRRITATED if I were you and someone thought Czech Republic was somehow Russia. I apologize for my compatriots. They really need to get out and see more of the world. I hope at least you're educating them on Central Europe a little bit.
@@DreamPrague Don't sweat it. Ask an average Czech where is Idaho and see him looking dumb.

A držím palce. ;-)
I luv your channel ❤️ Miluju tvoji originální tvorbu 👌❤️ Jako poslední dobou mě tvůj kanál baví nejvíce, protože nenatáčíš takové blbosti jako čeští youtubeři ... Jen tak dál 💕
Well, thank you so much!
Souhlasím, je to normální pohled z venku.
Thank you a lot for another great video! The reason so many people from the Czech republic joined the crowd is simple - we like two things, firstly, to see someone actually trying to learn Czech, even though its such a hard language and secondly, because you are an amazing person, who tells us quite interesting and captivating stories, sees the Czech republic in good light and adds a lot of interesting information on culture. I really like the videos you've made on the cultural differences :-). Oh, the smiley face... we have them both, actually :-). The standard one is " :-) ", used mostly when we find something funny. The " :D " is used when we hear something super funny or its something that really makes us laugh out loud :-). So, shall we say tier 1 and tier 2 smiley face. On humour - we are in general, quite dark souls :-), we love irony, dark humour and generally making fun of everything (we take it as a joke, no one gets offended, its our own way to make things "a bit more" easier on mind). Things are sometimes easier, when you joke about them. Its hard to explan - same type of humour in UK, by the way. On easter whipping - I am not sure whether its the same everywhere, but I've never heard of role switch to the sense that women whip men. The tradition is I think to sprikle water on men after 12am by women :-), to do the same - to water the youth in boys and men. Anyway and most of all, thank you for your smile and humour :-). Keep up the great work! Looking forward to your next video!
Thanks Andrew! I actually really appreciate the Czech's dark sense of humor...I'm still trying to understand it in the Czech lanugage. I'm glad you enjoy the channel!
@@DreamPrague Even most threats are in reality just dark humour - but writen without smiley. Sometimes people forget that you don´t hear the intonation when it is written. :)

@@archeopterixneuroza4715 :D Thx
Je to "úhel pohledu", což je v češtině přívlastek neshodný a ten většinou bývá v angličtině spjat s nějakou předložkou po prvním podstatném jméně (interrogation OF the suspect, goal OF our mission, book WITH examples...)
Thanks very much Rizek!

Taky sleduju Michala, zapoměl jsi napsat i o zajimavích rozhovorech v různých odvětví. ;-)

Hey there! I love the video as always, you have great personality, totally fell in love with you (ofc platonically 😂) I just wanted to give you a tip about a topic that would be interesting for foreigners especially Americans - Czech Gun Culture. I know, I know guns are generally a thing that is one of the most common things to ague about amongst US citizens but still there are many who takes Second amendment as the holy grail of word around them and you could show them how we Czechs actually have our guns sorted out. Some people say that our legislation on gun control is one of the best in the world. Not only there is a history in firearms manufacturing but there is quite big history of citizens owning their firearms. There are a lot of ranges in Prague where you can shoot a gun even without owning the gun permit so it would be great if you would present this "feature" to other visitors.
Just idea that popped into my head just seconds ago.

You could either try the Ministry press contact (press@mvcr.cz) or if I could recommend a specific person at the ministry, it would be Jan Bartošek (jan.bartosek@mvcr.cz) who is both well-versed in the Czech firearms law and also fluent in English. He represented the Czech Ministry of Interior in some of the EU firearms deliberations.
I can also recommend the organization LEX (info@gunlex.cz). It is a moderate pro-gun organization, trying to preserve the status quo in the Czech republic. They work closely with the Ministry of interior as an expert group in the legislative process. You can get a good explanation of the laws and connected practices there.
Oh, and I could probably help a bit as well, though I'm obviously not such an authoritative source :)
That’s a tough one . I would say that for many Americans guns are in the fabric just like beer for Czechs. That said video on Czech rules for guns both hand guns or rifles , hunting, fishing,....would be great 👍
Pěkné video. Líbí se mi ta skromnost a nadhled.
You are awesome!!! I just recently started following you videos and I admire you.
Czech language is not easy !!! English had one word for everything EI. "old" old can be everything. But czech old is " stara, stary, stari , starymi, starych etc. So I do admire you for learning it and for doing all these videos.

Love this video-as usual! My Czech husband and I watch every single one of them and he tells me that you’re spot on in most of your observations (we live In Seattle USA 🇺🇸 but will move to Czech in a few years to retire there). I sent you an email with some suggestions for other videos that I think would be really great for your first-intended audience - expats who want to move to Czech. I’ll list them here for convenience: Differences between doctor’s visits in CR vs. America

Are there any naturopathic medical providers in CR?
What is a trip to the dentist like in CR (I’m VERY interested in this one!)
Are there any decent gluten-free shops or restaurants?

Why the checkout clerks in grocery stores are so surly in CR. :) LOL
Is CR still a cash-based country? Why?

Differences between a pharmacy in CR vs. America (Walgreens vs. lekarna).
How to open a bank account in CR.
Driver’s licenses in the CR (can you really just pay $1,000 within the first 30 days of arrival for permanent residency and get your CR driver’s license)?
Safe, off the road cycling adventures in the CR
Hi there, I hope, one day you'll get your videos, but for now, here are some answers:
1) "Are there any naturopathic medical providers in CR?" - Sort of. This type of fraud is technically legal in Czechia. However, since it's merely about providing expensive placebo substances and motivational speeches with no added real effect, the use of "medical" is prohibited. Same is valid also for other fraudulent things - like homeopathy.
2) " Is CR still a cash-based country? Why?" - No. Most ppl use DEBIT cards for decades. Also, we are a nation of gadgeteers and lot of ppl, including me, also switched to GooglePay as soon as possible - and a few years later, Apple launched ApplePay, which eventually - with some delay - came to Czechia as well and promoted NFC payment even to less technically skilled ppl, so both ApplePay and GooglePay spread like fire in California. However, in smaller towns, cash will be still the prime - if not the only - option, as those shops/pubs struggle for survival and whenever you pay with card, few % are secretly taken away by the card issuer/terminal provider. However, since now all businesses are forced to be part of a nationwide electronic network (their sales are real-time sent to Tax Office), terminals are more and more common. More expensive the establishment is, more probably they'll have terminal.
3) "How to open a bank account in CR" - Avoid "traditional banks", they will refuse you. In smaller banks, they may open an account on demand or they may request some sort of proof, that you are eligible to stay...for some time (I'll get to that later).
4)" Driver’s licenses in the CR (can you really just pay $1,000 within the first 30 days of arrival for permanent residency and get your CR driver’s license)?" - NO. If anyone tells you this, it's SCAMer! And since you mentioned Czech husband, things will be quite easy for you! and FREE! (except for payments for verified copies). First of all, visit the immigration office (OAMP) of Ministry of Interior (MVČR) - EU department - and apply for "TEMPORARY residence of a family member of Czech citizen" - you need to personally present:
A) a violet form (you can download it, fill it, print it on MVCR.cz),
B) passport,
C) 2x passport photo (35*45mm),
D) Czech translation (from legally approved translator! - there is a guild of judiciary translators) of your marriage certificate (I suggest verified copy from CzechPoint - it's sufficient ad you'll need that translation later for permanent residency),
E) original of marriage certificate (just to check it - it'll be returned),
F) Proof of accommodation - either lease contract (again, either obtain additional original for OAMP or get a verified copy from CzechPoint) OR download, fill and ask for the signature of "proof of accommodation" (Potvrzení o zajištění ubytování) from the owner of the flat. REMEMBER - it must be always somehow connected to the owner - either by an original signature or link of "Power of Attorney" from the owner to the one who signs the contract with you. You should check it in cadastre (CUZK) - access toward basic info about ownership is free.
G) Health insurance. Any health insurance is OK - again, that is a perk of being a family member of Czech citizen. Others need complex one, you're fine with a tourist one. However, it needs to be either in official (Czech/Slovak) language or translated into them, with a clear statement, that it's valid for Czechia - you can buy it after arrival, to be sure.
...if presenting all those documents as described (=everything is fine)then you'll get status of "fiction of residence" (you're looked upon like you already have that permit, until the decision which confirms it or revokes it), which grants you ability to stay in Czechia and a free access to job market (that's why a lot of east-Europe workers try to abuse it). You can also ask for bridge visa, which will be granted for up to 180 days, depending on expectations of how fast it'll be processed - which will heavily depend on your cooperation. Also having Trump as president (or someone else, who is taken seriously) helps a lot. Bridge visa allows you to travel around Schengen states. Eventually, you'll get blue passport-like Proof of residency valid for 5 years.
After just 2 years, you can apply for Permanent residency, with exactly the same documents (except for insurance, which you should have always and is taken as granted by that time). You are a family member - so no need for language exam - but you'll need it few years later when applying for citizenship. By default, it's 5 years of permanent residency, but as a wife of a Czech citizen, this condition is not set in stone - not to zero, that's typically reserved for wives of Czech diplomats, but maybe for 3 years. Maybe. If you can keep a clean criminal record and prove to earn enough money so that you and your husband sustain yourself. Note, that citizenship can be obtained ONLY if secret services agree with it, so you need to keep clean criminal record globally, particularly in other EU countries.
5)"Safe, off the road cycling adventures in the CR" There is a dense colour-coded network of trails (err. not in U.S. meaning - there is village almost every 10km/7mi), created and maintained by The Tourist Club (off the roads in woods and fields, mainly meant for pedestrians) and slightly less dense network of cycling paths (imagine somewhat narrow road, mostly with asphalt top).

5:31 Well.... Geographycal center of Europe is near Banská Štiavnica in Slovakia so...
There are many of them, depends on the definition. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographical_midpoint_of_Europe
A jste hezká.
A přeji Vám, ať se Vám s manželem tady dobře žije. I když tu už jste dlouho.

Ahoj Jen! I just wanted to say that your videos have been extremely helpful to me. I am moving to Prague in August to teach English and I find your advice and perspective indispensable. Your videos help me stay excited before my big move. Right now, I am working two jobs in an effort to save money, so things don't feel "real" just yet. But whenever I feel down and overworked, I just play one of your videos and I am reminded that yes, this is happening and great things are in store! Thank you so much. Ciao!

Oh, and in answer to your pinned post: I am curious about dating in Prague. I understand that you are married, but would you be interested in interviewing some of your single friends (expats and Czechs) to ask about their experiences? Obviously, the difficulty of the language is a major challenge, but there are also cultural differences to consider; I have heard that Czech culture is more traditional in terms of gender roles. How does this manifest in the contemporary dating scene, etc.? Any insight into this would be really helpful. Thanks!
P.S. Sorry about your kaput water heater. :(
Dear Jen, thank you so much for your channel and your interesting videos! It's amazing to see an American who is comparing different things here (CZ) and abroad!!Please keep doing - and don't worry: we are really not offended by any hints or remarks from you ;- )P.S.: Your Czech is really great !!!
