tbf that’s quite a British thing to do is just answer “yeah” when people ask how you’re doing, it’s like short for “yeah not bad” however you’d say it to your mates, maybe not the President, he was definitely nervous haha
Bear was my absolute childhood, I've watched every single one of his episodes with pure joy.
Man vs Wild is "one of the new shows" I haven't gotten round to yet, and now I realise a lot of years went by... oops I'm old. Oh well, still time. He seems cool
He's also a fake who sleeps in hotels when he shoots and gives some of the worst advice I've ever heard uttered by a "Professional." You shouldn't recreate what he does not because it's a bit dangerous and you're not a pro, it's because he's talking utter rot that will get you killed in a real survival situation. INB4 how would you know I was raised by an International Mountain Leader and spent the majority of my childhood in the high mountains dealing with basically everything that can go wrong short of needing rescue because we know what we're doing.

I was aware he was always with a camera crew and safety team, and was also always aware he had stunts and challenges set up / presented to him so that he could demonstrate techniques / skills / methods. This was always clear, as it was something the show would indicate at the start of each episode.
I thought everyone else was aware of this too, so I don’t really get what he was “faking.”
This doesn’t make his entire career, and him as a person, any less of an inspiration.

This man is still one of my younger days hero.
About 7 years ago in Texas I almost drowned in a river, I didn't know how to swim.when I was drowning for some reason I remembered an episode of bear grylls saying don't panic when your drowning or in quicksand I forgot. But because of that advice I was able to focus and make my way to the top where I was helped by two Asian woman. Thank you for your survival tips bear grylls ❤.

I used to be quite critical of Bear but recently watched Louis Theroux’s documentary on him which totally changed my perspective. Yes, some of his shows were very staged but you need to remember it’s for entertainment and if he was doing all that stuff for real he probably wouldn’t have survived and his boys would be without a dad.
Some of his shows are staged but the struggles he faced in them were real. Plus his knowledge on survival is incredible. He is also just a great dude. I loved watching him even if it was right next to a highway
