In a lot of ways, Sade represents a gross exaggeration of everything that was wrong with the aristocracy in the Ancient Régime: décadence, entitlement, and preferential treatment in the eyes of the law. Yet, not only was he elected as a deputy of the national convention, but he was elected as a Far-Left deputy (radical republican). Wild times... Wild times. I hope you enjoyed this rather bizarre episode. And as usual, Merde! EDIT: it was brought to my attention that it's a common misconception that Sade was ever elected to the National Convention. While he was never elected, he was still a prominent politician and a far-left one.

@Carl's Brother as much as I don't like Trump, I have to completely agree with you that here, it's kind of ridiculous to even mention his name among the vile villains who've absolutely f*cked and probably murdered the children in our world.
I knew that de Sade was sick, but this is next level twisted and just wrong. He sounds like he was a complete and total sociopath who viewed the rest of us as nothing more than tools for his amusement.
randomcthulu I mean yeah he did. He genuinely believed the rich and powerful should be permitted to do whatever they like with the weak and poor (physically and sexually).

Fifty shades of gray is a childrens book if you're into BDSM scene one bit. It's ridiculous and funny to be honest. It's the female fantasy of what BDSM should be, and light spankings by a millionare playboy never cease to make me laugh. Fifty shades of gray is to sadism, what twilight is to vampire movies. I don't mean to say that I as a sadist enjoy bleeding my subs. Quite contrary. It is much deeper than a regular person can ever understand and requires much respect and trust. I enjoy humiliating them and torturing them, but only because I know they enjoy being humiliated and tortured. I could never rape or harm a woman, especially a child. There are boundaries if you're a sane person. We are just perverted. Not insane like Sade was.
Guns were a different thing than they are today. Sure, they still fired a projectile through the use of black powder, but there have been so many different designs (like an insane amount), and groundbreaking upgrades since they first started making them. I lost it at "fucking Parisians" because it sounded so personal haha. Note, I tried to read the book and couldn't get through it, but not because of the content, merely because the antiquated words made it hard for me to understand. Granted, I was still at the simple passions and I knew of the contents beforehand so I was not yet in the gory parts. I'm not exactly keen on remembering where I stopped because trying to continue this book might mess me up more than I already am. However, I _have_ watched Salo. Twice. Don't ask.
My hatred of Parisians is personal! haah I don't think the book is worth reading tbh - once you've passed the initial curiosity, it's just meh while being disgusting. I plan on watching Salò soon though. Merde!
"Salo" 😲 Oh My Word 😳🙈 The first movie I ever had to pause to retch 🤢🤮💩 One of the actors shot & killed the director irl, plus, I can't remember exactly, but I think someone suicided, too 😕

I mean, then sadism would just be a different word but it would still exist. There's like this one Ukrainian queen. Basically, there's a ton of aristocrats who acted like this.
I read the 120 Days in college. I agree with your description that reading it feels like the act of an accomplice, but it was valuable in that it introduced me to the very bottom of human depravity and robbed me of illusions that might have been unproductive if sustained.
I am currently reading it. Honestly, it is not so far from reality, unfortunately. It is the most explicit book I have ever read, I'm reading it in Spanish. It exposes the worst depravity and perversion I have ever seen in my life.
Absolutely hilarious, far more in touch with reality that your average "viewer discretion advised", and in keeping with the topic discussion. Brilliant.
Yeah me too! Like just some dude that enjoyed spicy sex. It's funny that we remember him more for his books than the fact that he was a pedophile, rapist... Thanks for watching Stefan! Always happy to see you here. We should have made these videos a sex collab haha
@Stefan Milo That's normal. For decades, he was presented like that by public media and his admirers in the writing/cinematic profession. They knew that nobody reads the books anyway, so they always got away with their trivializing and downplaying films, stories and so on. In earlier years, before the internet, I used to always have a copy of the 120 days of Sodom with me, and anytime I heard a person say anything uneducated or dangerously half-educated about De sade I made them read some grisly stuff from their "hero". Sometimes aloud. Many changed their minds on him forever after that. Same works with the Bible. It's because people in general don't read books, that so many authors get away with being hideously perverted and brutal.
Masochism is the term for those who like to be spanked. Sadists like to do the spanking. Most players are sadomasochistic; obtaining arousal by fantasizing and playing at both the top and the bottom.
Well damn, I thought he was just a dude who wasn't afraid to show the darker side of the world in his writing, who was ahead of his time and was punished for it. Nope. The dude was a sick bastard who acted on pretty much every sexually violent thought he had.
Yes, unfortunately there is a lot of white washing about him. Myself I was shocked to discover all this because I always imagined as just this man who was a bit risqué... merde!
When I was studying French at 16 I translated parts of 120 Days of Sodom. My older sister was a French linguist and she helped with the 18th century French. Apart from the insanity it was ponderous literary bilge but there is one description I will never forget translating. He described someone as having buttocks that flapped like shirt tails in the wind. Only the French would treat the novel as a national "treasure".
Yes, I remember reading that description. I think that was one of the old maids taking care of the children, right? Thanks for watching Peter and merde!
The national treasure is not the novel, but the manuscript. The guy was imprisoned for indecency yet he managed to write the most indecent book by smuggling tiny pieces of paper and gluing them together creating a 12 meter scroll. That scroll is almost as old as the United States of America and survived the Storming of the Bastille and the French Revolution. Most of his novels were continuously censored for more than a hundred years and still they resurfaced in the 20th century as a timeless reflection of human depravity. Putting morality aside; the scroll of _120 Days of Sodom_ is a historical artifact that deserves to be preserved and Marquis de Sade has earnt his place in the History of Literature as France's biggest creep.
It was most likely a short barrel (perhaps even warped), non-rifled bore pistol, firing an unbalanced, greater than .50 caliber ball, so - yes, it is possible. I believe in duals between two men during this period, that it was not uncommon to miss the other person, even while they stood still as their rival took aim.
When I was in my 20''s, I saw the movie "Salo" not knowing what it was about, only knowing it was an 'art' film. 50 years later, the horror of what I saw in the movie still haunts me when I hear the title. May we never have someone like de Sade ever ever again.
Is it really that bad?? I planned on watching it for my 10,000 subs but now I'm unsure haha. I sure hope we'll never have to endure another Sade again. Thanks for watching Matt and merde!
Salo is full of graphic & violent sexual content; however & quite importantly, it is not a "sexy" book/film - nor was it ever intended to be (contrary to most peoples initial impression). Much like "A Modest Proposal" written by Jonathan Swift, De Sade wrote Salo as a disturbing & graphic satire, pointing out the corruption of the upper classes in stark contrast to the suffering of the poor - the sexual violence & horrific treatment inflicted on the young people of the lower class by the four rich men of power (representing the 4 pillars of the established society i.e. law, education, medicine etc) portrayed is itself a literary device. This is expressed as the abuse of the poor by the rich; Much like in a Modest Proposal; where the narrator advises that the children of the poor can be cooked, eaten, the skin made into gloves & the young bred to repeat the cycle - the main point being that the rich have stripped the poor of every thing they own, to the shirt of their backs so to speak, so why not eat the kids?! So whilst there will be people who get upset at the initial impression the text gives & think "oh no, how could de sade write this, it's sick, he's a perv, how could this be in anyway sexy" - it was never intended to be. It is deliberately horrifying in order to make the point that society was/is profoundly corrupt, that the institutions do not serve the people & that the ones who suffer the most are the poor & disadvantaged - Themes that still echo true centuries later. TLDR - Salo was written as a satire, not a porno
@@CherryScorn when you consider that he molested children, raped women, got off on things similar to the book and got away with everything I don't think that message is credible from him. Why would he say bad things about something he was a part of and benefited from? Definitely not out of the goodness of his heart.
When I heard about the nailing through the belly of a pregnant woman and her baby, I lost it. I can only hope these incidents he wrote about were merely fictional fantasies.
Just finished watching a documentary on him and i'm shocked and appalled how some historians and biographies praised him. He was even described as a feminist before his time.
Yes, I'm also surprised by how people see him. Unfortunately, he has been vastly romanticized throughout history with people depicting him as an eccentric man who was kinky, but he was a genuine rapist that was most likely a pedophile, too. Thanks for watching Julia and merde!

To be fair, Sade's writing speaks volumes about the politics of the time. And Justine is most certainly an allegory: poor Justice being abused by the rich and powerful at every turn.
The issue is that Sade does not condemn the acts that occur to her but on the contrary, justifies them as the natural order of things. The moral of Justine is that if you're naive, kind and virtuous, you will get abused and rightfully so. This contrasts with Juliette, who despite lacking any virtue, is both happy and successful. Thanks for watching and merde!
It's quite impressive how Marquis de Sade managed to evade a huge chunk of his punishments (and other close encounters with death) during his lifetime.
Is it though ? While not trying to weild a heavy cudgel here, France in the mid 18th century was a country making great advances in the arts and science, governed by a doddering Louis XV, with a nobility essentially living exactly as they had in the Middle Ages. Evade punishment ? Don't make me laugh. For something to be covered-up, it has to be known. If it's never known, it doesn't exist. You could Sade was the one of the world's first investigative reporters!
This is extremely disheartening, I can now understand the truth behind this verse; (Ecclesiastes 1:9) "What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun."

Hi Barris, I hope you are well. I read this book when I was 15. Yep. The librarian thought it was a religious book and since it was leather covered it looked like a serious tome, my parents thought it was something for school. Luckily I already knew what to expect since the author was mentioned by my history professor as the epitome of the ancien regime, so I could feel the same disgust you have.
Hey man! Been a while. I hope all is well for you too. And well it's quite funny how the Librarian and your parents were oblivious to what it was. I hope it didn't shock you too much.
This is what happens when madness and sexual obsession are combined, then many innocent souls have to suffer because the authorities don't do their job to bring justice to the victims.
in this case atleast the authorities really had no power, sade was masochistic and was already messed up so, if he was put in prison earlier he would have had time to write something like 120 days of Sodom but much longer like 360 days of sodom or something like that. And if sade was killed, he would have been romanticised as a national here who fights against the social customs. (sorry for the english)
Something wrong when you need to have violence to enjoy sex that's the point here whether giving it or receiving seems to me that you have had in your childhood a parent who did something wrong as for Sade his writing and indeed life was one that shouldn't even be documented no wonder the aristocracy lost their heads
@Jesse Montgomery no it's abuse or a person who is wants abuse nothing normal about that in fact how many women have been strangled to death and excused as sex gone wrong FFS
Biggest lesson taken from this guy's life love your children and raise them with outstanding moral standards and empathy for others if not you can raise this monstrous disaster
You're probably right. Plus you can justify Salò by the fact that it has a strong anti-fascist message around it while 120 Days of Sodom is really just depravity for the sake of depravity. But in a way, the fact that Salò is a movie rather than a book makes it harder to handle because the violence is just much more direct. You don't have to imagine it and all.
I knew people in history were fucked up, but I've never learned in such depths until I watched this. I'm almost speechless. I can't describe how bad I feel for his victims, and I'm sure he was just one of many doing this, just like the evil guys on the show harlets. The thing that disturbs me the most is what he did to children.
Yes. They've been some really disturbing people in history, and Sade is one of them. It's easy to disassociate with his victims since it was such as long time ago but in the end, it was innocent and vulnerable people, children. Thank you for watching Jessie and merde!
Is it not reality of what humans are capable of ? The ruling class elite are practicing these atrocities now and have always done so. But now they are grooming society step by step so they can do it out in the open and corrupt ALL.
Out of morbid curiosity, I tried reading his writing, but always lost interest not even halfway through the introduction, of which I attribute to divine intervention. I though De Sade was disturbing before this video, but now I have doubts about making dinner tonight. He deserves study, just like any serial killer, disease, war atrocity or crime against plumbing. I am currently working on a solo show about him and I loved this video! Thank you so much for a clear run down of his life and the dates- a lot of writers haven't been clear about his prison to author time line. It's also so wildly brilliant that really only his life was made to be this horrific thing, when many Aristocrats were doing similar things. They were just significantly more discreet about their indiscretions. He himself was a total mess! Also thank you for the dramatic reading; it was fabulous!
Hearing about his upbringing I’m not at all surprised how he turned out. Two lost parents and raised by strangers who beat him mercilessly and didn’t love him, but then at other times were indulging his every whim, it’s like having your ego torn in two completely different directions, then a life time of excessive wealth with which to get revenge in a world with different moral standards where only power was respected. I remember he said in his writings that his sadism basically came from insatiable desire for attention and love that he could never attain, he was probably smouldering inside with pain from being abandoned by both his parents.
I could understand your idea if his crimes were simple and merely heartless. Yes, many criminals had bad childhoods. However, the extent of Sade's horrible appetite for evil, crime, rape, murder, pedophilia can not be blamed on a bad childhood. This was a pampered rich man who discovered that he could be completely evil and get away with it because of the stupidity of people around him. Frankly, he should be a person who is removed from historical view, his book burned and destroyed forever, and any discussion of him and his ideas as grounds for jail time. Pasolini should have been ashamed to attempt to visualize the ideas of this man's book. His movie, like de Sade's book have been flushed "down the toilet" of history by most people of intelligence.
Rebekah Moore It’s not an “excuse” it’s a diagnosis, free will doesn’t exist. We’re all part of the butterfly effect, but in the mean time we have to figure out how to reduce suffering in the world. The Norwegian model of criminal “punishment” works, they don’t punish, they rehabilitate, their jails are more like hotels with their own record label. Prisoners are free to chat to the guards and do gardening, the country has the lowest crime recidivism rate in the world. The dominant religion in the world today is the myth of Retributive Justice, that goes back to the Babylonians.
@Leo Catalano Any discussion of him and his ideas should be grounds for jail time??! Are you out of your mind? You are discussing him right now. Go on then, volunteer yourself for jail, be good to your own words.

As a child i asked my parents where they got my name Justine and was told it was the name of a book. There was indeed a book with that title by Laurence Durrell in our bookshelves. The fact that his books were published and are still bought solidifies the concept that the human mind enjoys extreme violence. And while there's a long stretch from reading about violence to actually acting upon it, he was right in assuming that violence is in our human nature. We still engage in sadist sex and enjoy a good gory horror movie, but modern society accepts it as normal.
Have you read any of them? The Mystified Magistrate actually had some comedy in it, in addition to not really seeming as though the guy portrayed in this video wrote it. Then again, I read Justine thinking I was going to be blown away by something utterly controversial, being that he himself denied writing it, on account of its "graphic nature." Well... I suppose over 200 years ago, it probably was a rather criminally salacious tome.

Forget the blaming, I'm more concerned by the fact that people still go for it. If that's an accurate portrait of him, he was quite handsome. Meeting him in 'Assassin's Creed Unity' was a trip, and I spent the better part of a week reading about him and his special sort of madness. He makes 'Dangerous Liaisons' seem like a Roald Dahl book.
He was definitely a handsome man and charming considering how many women consented to his acts (not saying all consented, many didn't). However, by the time we meet him in Assassin's Creed, he was severely overweight from spending so much time in the Bastille (something the game fails to show).
Great video even though Marquis de Sade was a sick man. It’s crazy to know how many opportunities he was given and he *still* pursued all his perversions. Imagine if his actions had no consequences? Which in a way, I suppose is true as he was constantly let off with “a slap on the wrist”, but if he hadn’t been reprimanded in the slightest. . . Yikes I can’t even imagine what he would’ve done
Thank you Rigo! I really appreciate it. And yes I can see what you mean - his book, 120 days of sodom, basically implies that world of no consequences and if its his fantasies, it gives you a sick view of what he would do. Thanks for watching and merde!
He was far beyond that. Most psychopaths are benign, albeit manipulative and poor romantic partners. Only a small minority of them take pleasure in torture and murder. This guy was an extreme example even among that minority.

In a lot of ways, Sade represents a gross exaggeration of everything that was wrong with the aristocracy in the Ancient Régime: décadence, entitlement, and preferential treatment in the eyes of the law.

@@ThisisBarris It's over 50 years ago but I think you're right. It certainly stuck in my mind!

Salo is full of graphic & violent sexual content;
however & quite importantly, it is not a "sexy" book/film - nor was it ever intended to be (contrary to most peoples initial impression).
I understand the director of the film was into all 'that stuff' and ended up dying due to involvement with it.
@@CherryScorn when you consider that he molested children, raped women, got off on things similar to the book and got away with everything I don't think that message is credible from him.
This contrasts with Juliette, who despite lacking any virtue, is both happy and successful. in this case atleast the authorities really had no power, sade was masochistic and was already messed up so, if he was put in prison earlier he would have had time to write something like 120 days of Sodom but much longer like 360 days of sodom or something like that. Again, I scream: WTF is wrong with this guy?!?!?
I am currently working on a solo show about him and I loved this video! Thank you so much for a clear run down of his life and the dates- a lot of writers haven't been clear about his prison to author time line. It's also so wildly brilliant that really only his life was made to be this horrific thing, when many Aristocrats were doing similar things. They were just significantly more discreet about their indiscretions. He himself was a total mess! Also thank you for the dramatic reading; it was fabulous!
Thank you for your kind words Angelica! Please share your solo show if you can. I would love to see it. Merde!
glad you liked it maam
Hearing about his upbringing I’m not at all surprised how he turned out. Two lost parents and raised by strangers who beat him mercilessly and didn’t love him, but then at other times were indulging his every whim, it’s like having your ego torn in two completely different directions, then a life time of excessive wealth with which to get revenge in a world with different moral standards where only power was respected.
I remember he said in his writings that his sadism basically came from insatiable desire for attention and love that he could never attain, he was probably smouldering inside with pain from being abandoned by both his parents.
That’s not really any excuse to murder, torture, and rape people. Plenty of people have been through worse and didn’t do that.
It's true actually 👍 i got some friends who just born in that way of life lol 😂
Yet again, one of the few channels that wisely avoid the temptation of cluttering their otherwise interesting content with unnecessary jokes & condescending asides. Well researched & clearly narrated. Merci.
Thank you Dennis! That really means a lot to me. I definitely see what kind of channel you're talking about so I'm glad to hear I'm not one of those. Avec plaisir. Merde!
I wonder how Sade would have felt if he was subjected to his demonic experience even only once. Could he have continued his work? Anyway, his history on this great video made me think our children need love to become great men. I mean maybe!
Considering how much he complained about being trapped in the Bastille, I doubt he would have taken it well tbh. Thank you for watching Helder and merde!
UA-cam comments: Nobody could be as depraved as Deviantart users!
Marquis: Hold my wine
Something tells me the Marquis would be an avid Deviantart contributor if he were alive today. Thank you for watching! It's an honor to have an Emperor on my channel.
If you think marquis de sade is a revolutionary degenerate, you should read about Abu nuwas
Deviantart? That's very mild, try Hentai Foundry...
LMGAO!
More like,hold my cat 'o nine tails.😉
At 14 in the army? He was probably protected and didn't get a scratch, but it's still crazy to hear the story. Sick AF
My god those poor children.
And women. Both got awfully abused and killed
@@floweryunicorn8888 Men did as well. I never said I did not feel sympathy for the adults.
@@jobivuvuvfvi605 and i never said that you do not feel empathy for the adults😂
Also, based on the video he was praying on children of both genders and female adults. He never mentioned any male adults unless you are talking about those during war, which is an entirely different thing.
@@floweryunicorn8888 He doesn't not mention it in the video, but in the book itself there are references to sexual sadism inflicted on adult males.
@@jobivuvuvfvi605 oh okay then
The “Toy Box Killer” definitely read Sade books~ both gross
Oh god I didn’t want to be reminded of that guy. What a truly vile human being. Those tapes were horrifying.
This is Barris! Leonard Lake and Charles Ng were even worse. They killed the children and husbands of their female victims. And taped everything they did to their female victims. I really was truly sickened during the documentary I was watching and turned it off. Charles Ng describing the way he killed his female victims’ babies and children haunts me to this day.
As a child i asked my parents where they got my name Justine and was told it was the name of a book. There was indeed a book with that title by Laurence Durrell in our bookshelves. A few years later though, i discovered another book with the same title, hidden on top of my father's wardrobe..by De Sade...i never asked anymore questions on that subject..😁
Hahah sorry but that made me laugh! I saw a few names in "120 Days of Sodom" that I quite liked but I wouldn't want to reveal to my kids where I found that name... Thanks for watching Justine and merde!
Marquis De Sade.
As a friend called him, the Demon Of France.
@Ginger Nightmare guy would probably torture you though
Wow that guy was sick..just because he was royalty he got away with so much..
Makes me sick!!!!
Kinda like now.. and always
He wasn't royalty at all. Just noble.
@@AnthonySforza apart from 50 Days of Sodom, which is exactly what everyone describes, I read Philosophy in the Bedroom, which was ok, sometimes funny. Everything was consensual, so it wasn't THAT bad (until the end when they sew a woman's vagina and anus shut because "she's not a libertine" lol)
@@odiug95
Oddly, I think that one escaped my perusal.
I don't engage in sadist sex, I always end relationships becouse of this, I don't deserve to feel pain.
@@grazielaalmeida8438 that's your choice and it's perfectly fine. Many people do, though. Truth is, there's connections between the neurochemical pathways used in the perception of pain and pleasure.
love how the location on the video is just "Hell" - seems about right lol
I've read two of his books Justine, and Philosophy In The Boudoir, and yes they're very graphic! Definitely not for the tender-hearted, or weak stomached.
120 days of Sodom was hilarious and disgusting
As sick as he was, his wife seemed to be just as demented. Yet no one is mentioning her!
I love how the name "Barris," when spoken with a French accent, sounds like "Bare Ass!"
Lol
@greg Ingram, actually no, it does not. Not unless you pronounce "ass" with the sound "ees"...
A clear example of how there is absolutely nothing new on this earth. If it can be imagined - somewhere, someone has done it.
How depraved would it be to have de Sade and Caligula in the same room?!?
The shadenfruede would be through the roof.
I'll never forget meeting him in Assassin's Creed: Unity and they REALLY downplay what a horrific monster this guy was, even in his database section. They definitely didn't mention "120 Days of Sodom", which if someone wrote that today, Twitter would have them strung up by their own entrails for writing something so messed up. Btw, DO NOT READ IT. There are things you're better off not reading, this is one of them lol
The original Epstein
Jeffrey Epstein is at least descended from this ancient piece of human garbage.
@Andrew Phillips If you do not know who he is, you may not want to know all he had done. He is extremely disgusting.
A very rich pervert who likes kids and worse things
Thank you so much for this! I have just begun reading de Sade. Purchased it many years ago. This let's me know I shouldn't expect to finish some of it. Thank you for the video.
I once started to read Justine but it was SO REPETITIVE it became boring-kinda like bad pornography
Yes, I agree. Once you go past the initial shock and its comedic value, it's pretty much the same thing - Justine is too virtuous, she gets sexually abused because of it, and repeat. Thanks for watching Jude and merde!
Sexual obssession is a bore
Try 120 days of Sodom, you'll love it
@@thisisajang Yuck
@@felix25ize lol but really, it makes 50 shades of Grey looks like a children book
I'm sorry I clicked.
I am not sure what is more disturbing, the fact that I actually got through this video, or the fact that his writings are actually not only still around, but analyzed, celebrated and eroticized.
While I think his texts are interesting in a curious/intellectual sense, I do think people downplay his crimes and over glorify him and that saddens me. Thanks for watching Marvin and merde!
@@ThisisBarris It disturbs me, and while i knew he was sick, just watching the few bits of this small video and learning of the few extra details of him now make me feel polluted. I have definitely learned my lesson. People can blame his anti theism or the religion he despised, or the spoiled brat making upbringing and aristocracy, or just him being evil. Forget the blaming, I'm more concerned by the fact that people still go for it. In the name of freedom, enlightenment, or whatever, people still glorify, downplay, and eroticize things that Criminal Minds and SVU would not cover. Humanity has a long way to go.
The way my jaw slowly dropped as I got further down the video... Like I cannot physically comprehend this
Location: Hell. Sounds about right. France around the turn of the 19th century had quite the collection of... interesting people walking around the country.
"As you know, I'm a bit of a daddy" 🤔
It definitely had! And it's been a blast so far discovering all these unique, weird people.
I'm offended that you don't think I'm a daddy smh Thank you for watching man and merde to you!
I love the way you made the video and your accent was just the cherry on top. I read the book
IM NOT UNSEEING THAT.....
Thank you Cynthia! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Really means a lot to me. And a few hours of puppy/kitten videos helps a lot haha Mede!
This guy had some demons looking out for him.
And you can bet he's got some more now, watching and taking care of him. And he will have for eternity. And I'll bet he's buddying up with Hitler down there, too.
Meh. He WAS the demon.
Wow! I skipped the passage, sorry, even a dirty mind as mine gets nauseated at that level of sadism. Very brave of you for addressing this darkest topic, Barris.
Thank you Luis! It was quite nauseating to read (although funny in how ridiculous and outrageous it is.) I'm glad you enjoyed it and merde!
@@ThisisBarris - "Enjoying" was not the word, to be honest. One would need to be a psychopath to enjoy the crimes of De Sade. But is a dark aspect of humanity that must be researched and discussed nonetheless.
Jesus Christ Christ why would this be recommended lol also why did I watch everything 😂
Morbid curiosity is quite a dangerous thing haha thanks for watching and merde!
Yes it's rather wonderful, but then again its early Sunday morning I should be at mass here in Ireland but I'm very drunk and coked
@@ThisisBarris oops I posted the last message without looking at the full vid ... wow really fucked up... a bit of slap and tickle as they say but not this crazy fucked up shit
Another Stalin
So a straight up clinical psychopath.
Uncanny that he wasn’t stopped quicker.
He was far beyond that. Most psychopaths are benign, albeit manipulative and poor romantic partners. Only a small minority of them take pleasure in torture and murder. This guy was an extreme example even among that minority.
Man, I wish I was still in school taking French classes so I could drop little facts here and there that I get from your videos to make myself seem smarter
I'm sure your teacher would have loved you for that! Not saying you should take another French class to do just that but you should take another French class to do just.
I’ve been near the ruins of his castle in France. It’s hard to believe something like him could’ve actually lived there. Or lived at all.
My family is from a village that's very close to his castle! I ought to visit one day. Beautiful region too. Thanks for watching Lauren and merde!
This is Barris! - French History You should! Lacoste and the nearby villages are beautiful. I went by the area years ago and got some of the best pictures I’ve ever taken. The castle has a really *weird* statue of de Sade in front of it, but it’s otherwise a pretty normal area with friendly people, a lot of fruit trees, and a surprising amount of cats.
I definitely will! I love the whole Rhône basin - it's beautiful and full of sun and history.
Your quote "Make sure your parents aren't around while you are watching" is absolutely Hilarious!
Thank you! Merde!
the marquis de sade was a freakin edgelord wtf
Nahhh, even the edgiest of edgelords are like "no thanks fam".
Oh god I actually felt like throwing up after the description of the transcript (I didn't) other than that a solid WTF out of 10.
I'm surprised the EU thought police watched at all and didn't just censor it immediately! But yeah, researching the video made me uneasy quite a few times. Thank you for watching and merde!
You suddenly realize why Assassin's Creed didn't go far enough in portraying his degeneracy. The rating system for games simply wasn't designed for people as sick as him
You know this guy’s a legend if he hearts your comment after a yr since this video has been uploaded
Last part made me cry
What the hell??
The man was insane
He definitely was. Kind of upsetting that people these days simply ignore his sexual assaults because of the importance of his writings.
I'm sorry it made you cry. I hope you enjoyed the video nevertheless.
I regret ever being curious about the origin of this word. I’m now doomed forever because every time someone uses the word, I’ll remember these depictions
Now you have an interesting fact to share during dinners though. Merde!
This is what we should learn in school, great video/channel Barris.
I mean I agree but I can imagine that any prof that even attempts to discuss this subject would soon be submerged by outraged parents! Thank you so much. I was scared this video would put people off so I'm glad to see people are enjoying it. Merde to you!
This is definitely not for minors, not apt for school at all. It's even dubious it's apt for adults, certainly most adults would prefer to not know about this, me included.
Thanks for revealing these facts, it’s important people know about these atrocities so they aren’t just getting one side of history.
