Thanks for your excellent video with the 3 options for putting EPB into service mode to change rear brakes. I have an urgent question. My USA 2016 Kia Sorento Limited AWD supposedly has EPB because I do not have a pull handle or pedal to depress and there is a button on the shift console for engaging it and for the hold feature. However, when I took of the driver side rear wheel off today, I could not find any electric connector that would plug into the EPB module, and I could not find an EPB module. The caliper is one piece with no screws of any kind to remove a back plate and I don't know that the connection to it is electric; the piston has a hollow core. I have taken photos of this that I would love to share if possible to get your take on what the heck I have. Really hope you see this and can assist!

Hi my friend, EPB on your car in cable type, so there is no actuator on the calipers, if you check the rear cross member, you see the EPB unit (unit+actuator), so when EPB is activated, EPB will pull the cables to engage the parking brake.

Thank you so much good sir! Gosh - I would have never guessed that or figured it out. I will take a look to see if I can find it it on a cross member. I presume that I still am not supposed to manually push the piston in like a regular brake job, right?. If that is so: (1) Is there one motor/unit for each wheel? (2) Do I need to try the 9v battery or optionally remove the cover and manually rotate the small gear? (3) After retracting the piston with battery or manually, do I need to expand the piston again after installing the new pads? Again - many, many thanks!

      Always glad to help 😊.
This type of cable type EPB activates the parking brakes through brake shoes on rear wheels. So you have the brake discs for normal braking and caliper is on the disc which works only with hydraulic. It means you can push the piston in like other hydraulic brakes.
The EPB cable is on the brake shoe side of the brake disc so it’s not going to be a problem.

Thanks again. I deduced the same thing soon after I sent my previous note. This makes life easier except if I ever have to replace the parking brake shoes - fortunately I seldom use them but do engage them every couple months so that they don’t freeze up. Stay safe and be well.
