My mum was a teacher, both Primary School and then later on Secondary. All that book marking and Lesson Prepration cutt into our family life a lot: Ibwas one of four kids, dont know how she did it, totally unpaid and teachers do it cos they want to help the kids get the best start in life
People just can’t grasp that teachers’ work doesn’t just take place in the classroom. I was either marking books or preparing lesson every night and Sundays. I took Saturday off. As for holidays, post Christmas was preparing mock exams; Feb half term was marking mock exams; Easter was marking coursework. No extra pay for any of it. The one year I went part time to a 4 day week, was the only time I felt that I had some sort of control over my life.
