    Make your Calgary glass half full or better yet, embrace the good fortune you have in living here & realize that your 3/4 full glass could be brimming with the pride of living in a great city! Born & raised here and after 50+ years of traipsing the globe from Lagos to Kathmandu and Colombo to Copenhagen, I always embrace this city when I return and am proud and honoured to promote what we have wherever I go. So quit complaining and help to make this a better city by what you to do make it so!

    I visited Calgary in 2016 and stayed in The Art Hotel. They had a TV channel that continuously repeated this video. I enjoyed this song and video so much, I must have watched it a hundred times while in the hotel. It made me fall in love with the city and it's people. I still regularly watch the video and fondly reminisce my visit. I look forward to returning some time in the future.

    I first came in 1984 and have seen incredible positive change since then.Calgary has been a great place to raise my family, build a business and earn a great living.
    It has a really good live music scene with many great local musicians and venues. It is developing a good arts and cultural scene as some amazing local talent and more people from elsewhere come and bring their worldview and outside influence to it.
    - true its conservative but is full of decent, friendly, open positive people also

    fantastic video - I love that even though we are a world class city in so many different aspects that we still need to market ourselves to attract even more, such smart and well done thinking. This video has captured a lot of the amazing energy in only 2:49, I am grateful to live here and fortunate to have been born here. Calgary Rocks!!!

    Well done guys! Tthis is clever and well done marketing piece for people to post on social network sites and drum up interest in our city. But seriously...What's with the haters that are ripping it apart? My guess is that they're not even from here... guess what? If you don't like it, then move, no one is begging you to stay. We get it, you hate the weather, the peace bridge, the night life, the traffic, blah blah blah. It's tired - take your negativity back to where you came from haters.

    Great Job. I was wary about the new branding campaign (the lowercase c still doesn't make sense to me) but y'all should be proud of what you've done here.
    People tell me Calgary is such a boring city, that there's nothing going on. I don't get that, there's so much going on this city. The arts and culture scene is pretty big, if you can't find something every night of every week to do, then you're not looking up from your smartphone screen..

    Calgary is a place you don't appreciate if you grow up there. I grew up in Calgary, and have moved to London, England -- I appreciate it much more now that I'm living somewhere else. The video shows it well, Calgary has it all. Don't take it for granted if you live there, it's a rising city, only getting better.

    Also, others move here for the outdoors and proximity to mountains. Again, this means that people are less likely to invest and spend time in the actual city itself! There are perks to Calgary, but don't move here if you want a textured, dense, and diverse urban experience. It doesn't exist.. yet. For those that do live here, please help us make it a more interesting place!

    I'm from Edmonton. I love the mountains, Heritage Park, Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, the Zoo, Canada Olympic Square, Community Natural Foods, Spolumbo's, Nick's, and how all the Public Libraries are easily accessible by bus. I enjoy the Hitmen, the Stampeders, the Flames, there is an awesome transit bus and train system that I use to get to all of the above. I don't need multiple pairs of black shoes, just a pair of black western boots, and since there was snowfall in the video, it's also honest.

    Born in toronto, ontario, and have seen the ontario ads as well and they look wonderful, except in reality its nothing like that. Boring city, always packed, terrible roads, winter never ends, and the only nice places to see are in northern ontario, where there is actual nature whereas in southern ontario all it is, is city etc. However you barely move around if your in the south, I've been in toronto all my life, have never been to a different province cant say the same for everyone though

    I don't understand what some of you are talking about! Calgary is amazing! I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; lived in New York for 13 years and I have been here for 8. Calgary is the best kept secret as far I am concerned! Yeah, no beaches but I love the sunshine and the friendliness of people - except of those, I guess, who left pretty nasty comments! AND... the director of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra is BRAZILIAN! I'm telling you... Calgary rocks!

    I think it's great. They obviously put a lot of hard work and energy into making a destination video with high production value and beautiful imagery!
    Way too much summer in there though. Maybe more x-country skiing, tobogganing, drinking hot chocolate in the snow, zoo lights and such would help the video resonate more with locals. We aren't your target market, but we are ambassadors for the city. Great video overall though,

  • @demosthenesalive

    I would showcase the things that make this city special. Proximity to the mountains; winter (be honest); the museums (we have two really good ones at least); the Jubilee Auditorium; trade shows; festival season (we have a festival literally EVERY weekend from late spring to early fall). What I saw was nothing but GENERIC shots of people smiling. I don't give a crap about that kind of thing... INSPIRE ME to enjoy Calgary; don't show me generic stuff!!! (and 500 chars is really short)

    Downtown Calgary has great urban fabric and it's improving exponentially every year. Look at the billions of dollars worth of condo developments they've seen alongside urbanization projects in the Beltline and East Village. Calgary has lots of trendy areas in and around downtown you just have to get out of the burbs is all.

    RIGHT HERE
    c 2012 Mike Shields (SOCAN)
    Right here is where I live
    It’s where I breathe
    It’s where I feel every moment going by
    It’s where I’ve come
    To feel the sun
    And the freedom of this endless open sky
    And I am here
    Yea I’m right here
    Right here is where I think
    It’s where I dream
    It’s where that dream has got some hope of coming true
    I take a chance
    And join the dance
    I feel there’s nothing out there that I couldn’t do
    And I am here
    Yea I’m right here
    Right here I feel love
    I feel safe
    I feel welcomed to the day with open arms
    There’s something new
    A change of view
    A kaleidoscope of fantasy and charms
    Instrumental/vocal break
    And I am here
    Yea I’m right here
    And I am here
    Yea I’m right here
    Right here it feels good
    I wish you could
    Be with me…
    Right here

    There is no such thing as a perfect city. The video does a great job at highlighting some of the things that make Calgary great and diversified. Calgary has a flourishing economy with a very low crime rate compared to most major cities. Also, their backyard is surrounded by some of the most beautiful wilderness and mountain ranges in the world. I love Calgary.

    Well the multiculturalism is big in Calgary, and yes winter lasts a while. We are in Canada. It's not as busy as Toronto but still is a big city feel. No they don't show every single neighbourhood that would take hours. It's appealing I grew up in Ontario but Calgary is my city. I think it shows it as well as it can in the length of the video. • @buur4127

    Here since 1984, loved it then with little over 600k population. Bough first brand new house (little ove 1000sf) in 1987 for $64k, now it costs 300k, people make just 50% more than then. Deerfoot trail is now a parking lot during rush hours, city doubled in population. Recreational places overcrouded especially after last flood that ruined infrastructure. Wish it were still as it was in the 90s. Vidoes like this attract more people from the east who either compete with not so good employment opportunities anymore or end up homeless if not having good trade or proffession. Locals get it tougher to compete over workplaces. We had good emenities compensating for harsh winters before, now it's becoming just a "rat race" city like other overpapulated cities, nothing compensating for the harsh winters. 30 year long opinion.

    The problem is Calgary only makes the majority of its money off of the oil industry. What happens when things start looking bad in oil? That's the question. It's not a sustainable economy, not for the long term, And not to mention... oil.. pffft what a dirty and last century thing. We should be focusing on future energy technologies. Anyhow, that's a different topic. Calgary has its pros and cons lol.

  • @ImbaSoulDC
    @ImbaSoulDC 11 років тому

    You are right, transit is a complete joke compared to major American and European cities, and it seemed like it was built without expansion in mind. However, Calgary is starting to slowly change, and it is a very clean city with lots of potential. It has a great international airport, and I believe efforts are being made to get a better transit system going. Anyhow, it's not a world class city, but it does have some things going for it.

  • @devious222
    @devious222 11 років тому

    The main problem that Calgary faces is that most people move here for work and high paying jobs. That means that most people don't really care to invest much into the city/their community, don't care much for a healthy urban atmosphere/fabric, don't care much for arts/culture, etc (they move here for good jobs not for the city). There certainly are many who do want these things (like myself), but compare that to Toronto, or other major North American cities and it is really lacking.

  • @techcalin
    @techcalin 11 років тому

    And how would you portray the long cold winter to potential tourists?
    Yes it gets cold, yes it stays cold for long periods of time but would a tourism video from Vancouver show people running around in the rain for 90% of the ad or a video for Winnipeg showing them stacking sandbags when the Red River swells in the spring? Those are not things that attract tourists. I wouldn't call it dishonest, i'd say that we are advertising the good in our city.

  • @quwicken
    @quwicken 11 років тому

    its a nice commercial, but it flashes by things too fast at parts and what has a car flashing different colours got to do with calgary? It flashes by Calgary Stampede...now that itself would have branded the video so most know where it was from. note almost no older people in video they obviously wanted to portray it young vibrant and strong. the message i got is " live work and play" which is great, but it could have been Toronto, or vancouver, until the end you finally see its about calgary.

  • @CJMcCullough
    @CJMcCullough 11 років тому

    The video is nice but I thought it was a shopping commercial. I had to read the explanation to find out it's a video about how cool my city is. I love Calgary, I've lived here most of my life. My husband moved me away for a short and I demanded we come back but as far as a Calgary ad campaign goes, it could be better. My first response honestly was "so where do I buy the car." And seriously, I preferred "Heart of the New West." I remember that one.

  • @demosthenesalive

    I love living in Calgary, but unfortunately all I see in this video are two things: 1) a bunch of people doing exactly the same things they can do in ANY city in the northern half of North America, and 2) a complete waste of my property tax dollars as a result. Why not showcase more than just a bunch of people smiling doing generic things with a song that I feel is terrible, and not even remotely a representation of what it means to be a Calgarian?!?!

  • @Allishmoop
    @Allishmoop 11 років тому

    Okay, watched it 3 times now. Its..okay. I found it a bit choppy, and sometimes too fast to actually see what it is I was supposed to be looking at. I get it that the people looked happy, it IS an ad after all. Would have preferred to see more of what it was that was making them happy. Music, although upbeat, didnt do anything for me. Pale in comparison to Travel Alberta's "Remember to Breathe" ad.

    This is just okay. I'm not sure it showcases some other very important aspects of the city. A view of the mountains for example. The stampede as another example, Too much just playing in water and the cool red car and only 20 something age people, but no children or seniors. I like the song though and there are many good parts to it, like downtown with the snowflakes falling.

    The video isn't meant to be informative. It was meant to "VIDEO showcase Calgary's unique energy and community vibe and shows that Calgary is no longer a big small city but rather an emerging global city." If you want information, go on a website or something.

    I also like how it shows ppl having fun on their rafts on the bow. Meanwhile you can't go near that fucking river in the summer to do anything else, or you get people giving you the finger, throwing beer bottles at you, and tough guys with tribal tattoos picking fights with you.

    Just so I'm not all negative, this is a great looking vid and I'm glad you're promoting Calgary. You're trying to attract people here, so obviously you aren't going to show footage of blizzards and police tape and flashing lights (that stuff happens everywhere).

    I wonder why people are ripping on calgary so much. Born and raised in Calgary, and after living in Ottawa, Edmonton, and Toronto, Calgary is definitely the best city. People complain about the little things in life, go to one of those cities and you'll see why Calgary is the best.

    this song is for my studios finale this year. The message is really sweet. Its also perfect for Calgary, and Alberta, and Canada. OUR HOME!

    LOL! Some of those scenes I thought "Yup, only Calgarians are crazy enough to be out dancing in the snow". My husband and son were both born in Calgary. Both of them think it's normal to wear shorts when it gets to +2.

    fantastic video! I think that there needed to be more diversity and not so heterosexual. We moved here to get away from the judgement in the United States. Calgary is a GREAT place to raise children if you are a same-sex couple!

    Great Video. The feedback comes from my mother who wishes the video had age-diversity. Most of the people in the video are young individuals. In future videos consider including people of all age groups.

    Those of you that actually live here and are critical should travel the world and see how well Calgary compares. And those of you that don't...sorry your jealous but that is the way of the world...better luck next life.

    yep, doesnt have to be..and doesnt have to not be. (last comment from me on that) Overall, I guess what Im saying is I find the Remember to Breathe ad(s) more about what/where is seen, and less about looking at people.

    The only thing I complain about is the lack of multiculturalism in this video... there are very few people of colour shown enjoying themselves- not working but playing like the Caucasians. Nothing of Chinatown.

    I am a born and raised Calgarian and I love my city! There really is a great vibe here and oh so much to do. I can travel all over the world, but I will always come back to Calgary. It's home! Great job on capturing a glimpse of what this great city is all about.

    I know. And how the hell did we get rated Best city in Canada? I live here, and it's so damn boring!! But there's nice people here, and it's got jobs unlike other places.

    Nice upbeat vibe!
    A pity that Calgary's amazing Revv52 singing group didn't make the cut. And I don't think I spotted the marvelous Nose Hill Park. Otherwise, thumbs up!
