Sherry is so underappreciated in today's wine world. I've a spent a week in Jerez 2 years ago, visited a handful of bodegas and it turned out to be, hands down, one of my best wine experiences ever! Lovely city, fantastic winery cathedral-style architecture and remarkable wines.
I love Amontillado! Always keep some in my fridge since those can keep for so long. I find it hard to get people into them. Most people like the "medium" style which has a bit of sweetness.
Very good point. Amontillado is definitely not a ‘casual’ drinker’s wine. The saltiness and nuttiness can turn people off for sure. Lucky you always have sone on hand!
Great video! Yes a big sherry fan. And loved a lot of what you said. In my younger days I was a big Port fan. But as I got older I found Port (at least the ones I can find in my area) too sweet. So I eventually switched over to Sherry. And I love that Sherry have a number of very different styles. I'm hoping one day you'll make a video tasting the different styles. (And maybe spitting since these are a bit hard on you.) I have no had any Palo Cortado however. Sherry is very underappreciated and in my area hard to find for such a long time outside of sweet Cream Sherry. It took me about 1.5 years and talked to 3 different distributors and importer and a winery itself in trying to get more Sherry into my state. And I can proudly say there are now several Sherries from Lustau available in my state. Amontillado is probably over all my favorite style that I've been able to try. But I also enjoy Fino and Oloroso as well. I know Lustau also makes a Palo Cortado and I'm hoping eventually to get a few more Lustau sherries into the state aside from the three examples so far.
