Even if for me it's impossible to say what album or song it's his best (for me at least 7 or 8 completely different albums - including this one - deserves this definition) for sure this song have the most technical amazing, incredible vocal line of all times. It's almost unbelievable!
I always have difficulties with David's metaphores. It never just slides inside easily; I always have to think:"Hm. What does he mean by that? Is HE himself a piece of teenage wildlife? Is he warning others not to be?"😂 Impressive song. Got the album at 17. Impact of Bowie now finally kicking in at 61. Was more into Lou Reed and Bob Dylan. Even though I listened a lot to Bowie because he was always on the radio- I really had to make an effort to get into it. Can't explain it, really.
Along with my favorite Piano Rock album (Hunky Dory), my favorite folk rock album (Man of Music), my favorite heavy metal album (Man who sold the world), my favorite industrial rock album (Heroes), my favorite Crooner rock album (Station to Station), and an album that spawned genres (Low). Not a bad resume. 🤣 I didn't even mention the one that sold all the albums (Let's Dance).
Thank you so much for posting this! I remember taking this album home, ripping off the plastic wrapper and putting it on the turntable!, the day it hit the music shops!
The lyric references the characters Bowie had portrayed over the previous decade; The Grand Dame, Ziggy Stardust and The Thin White Duke. (There is no lyric about Gary Asshat Numan.) For fans that want to know the Man behind the characters, Scary Monsters is your album, and Teenage Wildlife is your song.
Then what is the new wave boys, & same old thing in brand new drag lines referring to? His past characters examining the current Bowie of '80? I'm not getting that from this. It may not be Numan specifically, but it does seem like he's targeting a bunch of them together. Numan, Sylvian, Strange, Adam, ETC. The "pretenders" all scurrying around their idol, and attempting to do their best job at being Bowie before more people come along to eventually replace them like Boy George, Martin Fry, Pete Burns, Simon le Bon, ETC.
From 4:42 to about 5:08 is just amazing. The way the tempo of the different instruments gradually comes back into sync. Anybody who knows some music theory who could describe it better?
Yessss, this is the one I've been waiting for! Thank you so much for posting!!! What album are you thinking about doing next? Or are you thinking about doing a different artist than Bowie?
He wanted the guitars to be “a splintery little duel” between Fripp and Carlos Alomar, while Hammer's guitar synthesiser (used to greater effect in Ashes to Ashes) adds an eerie choral tone.Feb 19, 2019
Sounds like the old white powder had truly taken it's toll by then. This 'song' is supposed to be an attack on Gary Numan, if you're looking down Bowie (legendary envious old fart you)Gary Numan is having the last laugh.
The Columbian booger sugar did mess Bowie up in this time period. I love Numan's work dearly, but he did try to chase fame after Telekon. Didn't really get back to his sound until the early 2000s, and his work Splinter on has been amazing. So maybe this was more of a warning from Bowie than a distrack

Day 5755. 5 x 1151. All my urine til 2.30pm then dried figs then organic yellow peaches at 3.00pm then fruit and vegetables and other foods at 7.00pm. No change
The more I listen, the more I hear the brilliance of Professor Roy Bittan on Piano under it all. Scary Monsters was David's best band.
I think Fripp is more important
His best album and one of his best ever songs.
Written in my Will to be played at my funeral. IS that weird?
I don't think so, it would make it less sad. And it's indeed a great song

+Dari Dane Totally agree with you! He is a Amazing artist. Truly GENIUS!!
Department of Thought Nothing wrong with that.I will nothing but the master playing at my service when I shuffle off this mortal coil.
Ashes to ashes, funk to funky...

From the greatest Glam rock album ever to the greatest new romantic album ever.

We miss you David
This is currently my favourite Bowie song It is just a perfect song.
The guitar at 4:42 is amazing, its just ahhhhh its just so good
None other than Robert Fripp, from King Crimson, on this and several other tracks on the album.
Possibly my favourite Bowie album ❤

Out of his time, far ahead, my all time favourite album.

Love the album. Love, love David Bowie 😪😍
One of his greatest albums!
amazing work to put lyrics on those gems!!
Thank you songsulove...this song is a gem !!!
Perhaps Bowie's most coherent lyric. The Faust like figure of the rock stat.
Please enlighten me.
How do you see the theme of Faust in these lyrics? I don't see that at all.
This and Blackout are my fav tracks for Bowie lyrics
No way!! Cygnet Comittee?
A pure jewel realy.I love this song .
This song is an improvement of the already perfect "Heroes"
My favorite song of one of my favorite album
My favourite song lyrics of all time

Robert Fripp on guitar there, has used computer tech for decades. Just look for King Crimson on UA-cam and you'll see his onstage kit.
fuck man, this is so heavy every time it's just fucking destroys me.
very good album
Magnificent!!
Just an amazing song to herd for generations
Try speaking words that make sense
Yessss, this is the one I've been waiting for! Thank you so much for posting!!!

Rad Kiwi Productions I'm not sure but I'm thinking of doing Low
So beautiful
Jimmy Guitar Screams
I feel this is “Heroes” part 2
It has thematically nothing to do with heroes. The melody is copied for the sake of this song's topic.
I've be trying for years to work out his best song/vocal/music mix, l think Teanage Wildlife, probably it
Wd love to hear the guitar on its own..
He wrote this about me.
From a till z 100% my youthhell
What is the lead guitar called
Robert Fripp
@@MarceloKatayama I know it's the amazing Robert Fripp, I was more curious on the guitar model
@@benfriedl2578 oh, okay. Sorry, seems I can't help you with that.

I think i read somewhere (aliensporebomb) it was a Les Paul, neck pickup, tone all the way up, Scholz Rockman, reverb into the board

Lol don't talk to me I don't know any hallways
For some reason David Bowie didn't like this guy Gary Newman.

@@catscratchfever7540 dude I’m not attacking him, Teenage Wildlife is about his dislike for Gary Newman
