Didn't know it at the time that the model was just introduced, but I purchased one in 1965. I think it was actually labeled a "D12-35" and it cost me somewhere around $400. Sadly, 4 years later the strap came off as I was attempting to put it into its case after finishing a gig. It slipped out of my hands and took a dive onto the cement floor of the pizza shop I was in. It's hard to describe the devastation I felt when I saw an 8-inch crack on the back and wood pieces broken off the head. Fortunately, I found a highly recommended repair shop in San Francisco that did an amazing job of repair so that the breaks were almost impossible to see. Even though the guitar still played great, I just didn't trust the long-term consequences, knowing the stresses put on 12-string instruments. I ended up selling it a few months later for $500, which allowed me to buy another new D12-35 which then cost about $650. After around 10 years of loving use of that guitar, I sold it in order to buy a 6-string Santa Cruz guitar. I wish I could have kept the Martin 12 string, because selling price of a 1965 model (even with some repairs) is for sale now at Guitar Center for $4000.

That's kind of the Rosewood D-35 version of the classic David Crosby 12-fret Martin 12-string (if that makes any sense). WHAT A BEAST. Amen on the 12-string dread concept. Tom Petty knew a thing or two, you think? I had a Guild D 12-string that was the exact copy of the Petty axe. It had a tragic end linked to traveling to Russia .... Long story.
You are spot on correct....been hunting D12-35 since '69 but this anniversary model's modern playability could not be ignored by my stiff little fingers.☮🕉

This is pretty much my dream 12 string. However from a aesthetic perspective, I HATE that label inside the sound hole. I love that Martins don't typically do labels and this one is obnoxious and cheapens the guitar's looks

Can you put a D35 neck on a 12-35 and convert it to 6 string?
To me, the big thing about the D12/35 50th Anniversary is the standard headstock. I have a 60 D12/20 - it sounds great, but man, changing 12 strings on a slot-head (yuck). I would love to find a Brazilian D12/35, just to convert it to a 12 fret 6 string!
The bracing is different so you may not like the way it sounds.
Jeremy makes it sound celestial.............the break angle at the nut perhaps affects tone.........slotted would be sweeter but all's good.☮🕉
