  • A quarter-century after stunning the theater world, one of the greatest theatrical journeys of our time returns to Broadway in an acclaimed new production from the National Theatre. A politically incendiary play at the center of the American Canon, "Angels in America" also manages to be, at turns, hilariously irreverent and heartbreakingly humane. It is also astonishingly relevant, speaking every bit as urgently to our times as it did when it first premiered. Tackling Reaganism, McCarthyism, immigration, religion, climate change, and AIDS against the backdrop of New York City in the mid-1980’s, no contemporary drama has succeeded so indisputably with so ambitious a scope. Watch actors James McArdle & Denise Gough discuss the Tony-winning play.

It's kinda nutty how good their American accents are. Especially James McArdle - it was bizarre watching him perfectly nail that balance of a gay Jewish New Yorker (I've known quite a few) when he's talking in a thick brogue outside of the show.

He can also be seen in Man in an Orange Shirt on PBS.org. I had no idea he was the same actor in both of these until someone pointed this out to me....what an incredible range!

I saw "Angels in America" during this run and he was right, at the end of 4 hours in your seat when that angel crashes through the ceiling, the theatre is electrified and you want Part 2 to start immediately.

Love them. And loved what James McArdle said about NT live and everything, as a Scandinavian that was the reason I got to see the play; so grateful for it.

They sounded so naturally and they appear to be deeply in love. It is just the time of life for them: enjoying career success while in love. Congraduations!

I’ve watched this interview twice and it’s my favorite thing😂😂 I’m a big fan of the play :)
    What they talk about😂:
“I love the Mean Girls musical so much.” “This show has so many themes, oml” “You’re so pretty, Denise💖” “I don’t wanna play Harper again, ughh😭” “My ‘Democracy in America’ speech, wow.”

So, they basically just cast an Indian Denise Gough.
Part of the charm is the fact she's buried her Irish accent but it keeps breaking the surface.
Looking forward to hearing what the new girl brings.. I guess.

This is very interesting and they have great chemistry, but I feel like they are exhausted and ranting about other people in the cast. Or maybe other productions they've seen.

What ?! They were really passionate about the play and the political climate right now and they perfectly balanced talking about serious stuff but also being funny as well. These two are very serious stage actors.
