\+/ Night City Stories \+/ Chapter 71 - Belly of The Beast "Today's the day" Molly thinks to herself while sitting patiently in the passenger seat of her Chevillon Emperor as her and Manny roll through the streets of NC with intention. The tone and energy in the cab is no nonsense.. They were sure to get started early in the day and are carrying an excessive amount of gear and equipment. This overcompensation is likely due to a subtle level of embarrassment felt by each of them. Having spent far too much time with their hands in the Night City cookie jar and not adhering to their biz.... A story as old as time itself in this town. This, of course means the pair are on high alert... potentially ready for anything. Venturing into unfamiliar territory in Night City is a hostile endeavor by default... They're like 2 porcupines headed into a lion's den. Regardless... with their combined experience, working through a project like this shouldn't take much time anyway.... right? A bright sunny day welcomes the two of them as they turn a corner onto a street in Arroyo, just on the border of Rancho Coranado. Neighborhood kids playing in the street and loitering adults stop what they're doing and turn their heads as they hear the growing roar of the Emporers engine getting closer. The locals in Brian's old neighborhood know the routine by now. Various people who'd rather not be seen make their way into run down apartment complexes while others stash drugs and other desirables in their preferred locations. As a kid darts across the street with several more chasing him, the Emperor pulls to a stop. Manny exits the driver side and glances around the block hearing the sounds of booming music and street activity before quickly opening Molly's door for her. Various nosy residents see her corpo black high heels step out of the car onto the hot sunbaked asphalt. She stands tall as she scans the area with a serious look on her face with all street eyes on her. As the people silently look on, she makes her way to the back of the Emperor and pops the trunk open. She sits in the back of it and casually kicks off her high heels, exposing her bare feet and causing the sun's rays to reflect off of her glossy red toenail polish. She then grabs a pair of jet black, calf high, combat boots and squeezes them on. This causes the various onlookers to slowly disperse and begin to walk away in various directions. She hops out of the back and closes it. Molly glances around the neighborhood briefly... seeing a number of stories told through the various destruction present on the block. Due to the sheer widespread nature of the decaying neighborhood, she has trouble telling the difference between whats been there for a while and what’s recently happened. It just kind of all blurs together to her… looking like a an earthquake and a tornado hit the place together at the same time. As her and Manny slowly make their way down the street they're nearly overwhelmed by the sheer amount of garbage and decay present throughout the entire block. The contrast compared to what Molly is used to seeing hits her pretty hard making it clear that shes deep in unfamiliar territory. They're then stopped in their tracks by a beggar that runs up on them. Manny quickly steps in front of Molly and puts his palm out stopping the guy in his tracks and making him keep his distance. The guy looked as if he had been drug around the block tied to the back of someone's Quadra. Most of his hair looked as if it had been ripped out of his head before being struck by lightning. His hands and barefeet matched with black dirt along with his shredded shirt. "HEY!! HEY!! CHOOM! CHOOM! CHOOM! OVER HERE! OVER HERE!! SPARE AN ENNY CHOOM? SPARE AN ENNY??? LOOK! CHECK THIS OUT!!" The man quickly detaches his prosthetic arm with a huge toothless smile on his face and tosses it up in the air before doing a one handed cartwheel. The twirling arm in the air lands back perfectly in his shoulder socket as he finishes his cartwheel and gives a ta da bow. "Hahaha, what the fuck?" Molly laughs with her eyebrows raised and a smile on her face. Manny begins to tell the guy to fuck off before they're all interrupted by a screaming voice not too far in the distance. They all look over and see a group of street thugs come sprinting out of a back alley at full speed. "HEY!!! THERE HE IS!! GET THAT FUCKIN GONKED RAT!!! I WANT HIS SKIBBIESS!!! NOW!!!!” The beggar looks back quickly at the thugs rushing at him from across the street. He then pushes past Manny knocking him off balance and taking off up the street. The gang quickly follows behind him as Molly and Manny turn to watch them chase after the beggar. As the beggar goes to turn a corner a Villefort Columbus decked out in 6th Street Gang vinyls and paint screeches to a halt right in front of him and the gang chasing after him. They see the purple skull and all stop dead in their tracks as 4 members of the 6th street gang promptly hop out. “WELL WELL WELL!!! LOOK WHO IT IS!!” One of the 6th streeters in a cowboy hat says as he cracks his knuckles with a big smile on his face. The 6th streeters point iron at and pistol whip the beggar and the pursuing gang of thugs before shoving them all into the back of the Columbus and speeding off. Before Manny and Molly can even react to the chaos several loud booming gunshots ring out from two speeding cars screaming by on the street fighting each other. They both instinctually duck down as Manny goes to shield Molly with his body to the sound of tires screeching loudly. Molly quickly stands up to get a better look at the fighting cars as they drift around the corner continuing to fire at each other. “Damn” Molly says to herself under her breath as she looks on with her eyes open wide and a slight uncomfortable smile on her face. Although quite fond of her fair share of violence and chaos… this is a different animal. Its ugly.. dirty… as human as it gets…with a lifetime of much of the opposite, she can’t help but feel out of place… in unfamiliar territory…. Where everyone’s looked at as equal… Where status and power go to die. The sounds of kids screaming, babies crying and adults arguing like children get drowned out by the sound of a man shouting while making his way down the sidewalk toward Molly and Manny. “SCOP DOGS!!! GET YA SCOP DOGS HEREEEE!!!” He shouts before crossing paths with Molly and Manny walking toward him. He stops his small, banged up metal cart with a scraping thud right in front of them. “Hey there gorgeous!” He says to Molly. “Any chance I can interest you and your mighty friend here with a buy 2 get 1 free deal?? I’m sure you can put em down aye big guy!” He says glancing up at Manny as he starts to get the dogs dressed causing Molly to giggle. Molly and Manny are next seen stepping into the doorway of Brian’s old home… the ware on the building shows a place long abandoned. Cupboards and dressers ripped open, windows smashed with scattered broken glass throughout the floorboards alongside tattered and shredded curtains. The entire building was completely burned out black. “Jesus..” Molly says to herself under her breath as she slowly walks through the place looking at the graveyard of a home. She stares at the black blood stained lazyboy that once sat Brian’s father. Although indifferent to the place, she can’t help but feel a subtle sense of pity and empathy glaze over her briefly. “Place is quite the shithole” Manny says before taking another bite of his scop dog. “Coords lead back here.” Molly says determined as she walks out into the back. She sees the trash filled backyard with scattered dead grass and singed burn marks from built fires spread about. She begins to gradually rummage through it while checking her optics with the coordinate data. “Damn… these scop dogs are fucking amazing. You sure you don’t want one?” Manny asks while taking a bite of the 2nd one and holding onto the 3rd. Molly scoffs and rolls her eyes before returning back into the home. The pair exit onto the front porch filled with debris and trash. Mollys takes a moment to glance out at the neighborhood and scan her surroundings from the very same spot Brian once used to. She looks down to see a kid sat alone on the small front lawn who looked to be no older than 10 playing with a stick and poking at the dirt. “Hm.” She says to herself before a brief pause. She steps down the stairs of the porch while her heavy weighted boots thud down hard on withered wood and slowly approaches the kid. She sits down right next to him and curls her legs up like his. “Hey there.” She says in a friendly tone with a big smile on her face.
I enjoy Jynx, & I think it is great that you are putting more effort into animation. However, she moves like a shake-weight, the breathing animation looks unnatural. The hair movement is good. Going to have to step up your game if you home to rival lo-fi girl. Per normal, the music is a little too constantly upbeat for me, but to each their own.
