Lilly. I would wrap devices in bubble wrap first, then thin cardboard, then foil. An EMP might short devices if the foil is in direct contact. The bubble wrap can be used to collect rainwater, or to sit on, in cold weather. The cardboard would be good for dry tinder, but could also be worn next to the body for trapping body heat. The foil can be used in firebuilding, rainwater collection and cooking. I know that YOU know this Lilly, I'm just stating it for any newbies who may not have considered this.
For a bag meant to be used while on the move, I use the least bulky half mask option possible, then include a small pair of swimming goggles to protect the eyes from gases, smoke, etc. Unlike welding and riding goggles, swimming goggles are air (and water) tight.
All good tips Lilly! I added a Wouxun KG-UV9G GMRS two-way radio/scanner and a Baofeng UV-9G radio so my wife and I can stay in touch if the cell service goes down. Both have the weather channels and a flashlight, and the Wouxun scans must frequencies. The Federal license was $35.00 dollars for 10 years for the entire family. A great addition to staying safe. I listen to the ambulance calls and they are interesting, especially during the pandemic.
I am a retired Comm’s Technician and you definitely want to remove all your batteries from your electronics before preparing them for a EMP. Also it is very important to NOT let your antenna make contact with your foil that you are using to wrap your radio in. Perhaps put your radio in a box or plastic bag, then wrap it up 2x’ s with foil.
Is permalloy foil significantly better than aluminum foil? I had many discussion about that with electro-geeks. And they told me that paramagnetic metals like aluminum do not filter magnetic compound of EMP. This is the problem. Do you agree ?
@@petrklic7064 The best way to tell if something will work is to get yourself a small transistor radio. Turn it on and find a strong station. Place that radio or even a cell phone into what you plan on using. If you can’t hear the radio station, then you blocked the signal. If you can’t call the cellphone and it won’t ring, you’ve blocked the signal. This is what you want. As far as alloy foil, I’ve never actually tried that.
Again, fantasy EMP stuff. The real reason you remove the batteries is because batteries leak! Even in the package I have had the top two American brands leak in the store package well before the expire date. I only use lithium now.

15:00 Another alternative to a full face mask is to combine the cheap half mask with cheap swimming goggles so you can protect your eyes (swimming goggles have full rubber gaskets around your eyes). I have this setup and the goggles are compatible with the half mask I have.
@@Damacles9 There may be more expensive swimming goggles that come with an anti-fog interior lens but I haven't tested them. You can also apply your own aftermarket anti-fog spray or wipe but I haven't tested those either. Some swimming goggles say to wet the inside before putting them on to prevent fogging. Not sure how effective that is since I hardly ever go swimming. Point is, there's a number of solutions if fogging is a problem and it's probably still cheaper or more cost effective than a whole Mira face mask.
EXCELLENT advice. I have been the one "prepping" BOBs for my family, but hubby balks. Every time I try to get him to participate, he says, "Where would we GO?!" I suspect, if our city gets evacuated, it is likely that the "Evacuation Route" roads, might very well dictate which DIRECTION we'd be ALLOWED to travel to get away, so we need multiple plans, exactly as you pointed out!
For your plan I would suggest the day one cache to be a storage unit that is just outside of the traffic congestion zone so you can really prioritize getting out of town over hauling gear. The storage room could have summer/winter gear choices, lots of water and bicycles
@@SurvivalLilly if there is looting that has reached the outskirts of town your bag will be mugged from you. There is no ideal scenario. If the town is going to fall into worl then getting out is the only thing that matters. Pick up gear once you are in a safer area
Perhaps, your 1st or 2nd cache should contain replacement gear; low chance of discovery. In WROL, you need to move with decisive action and great speed directly to the next goal. 2 is 1 and 1 ist zilch.
I really like the head lamps with the red lens. I've done wilderness camping with horses and a white light can really freak them out. Red lens doesn't even bother them.
Lilly, look into the "Solo Stove" for cooking. I use one on all my excursions. They are light in weight and there is no need to carry fuel when going out. You can even cook with leaves but I use mostly twigs and sticks (no large material needed). Time to cook 12 oz of coffee, 20 minutes. Also, the fire is mostly contained within the stove so there is very little flame that could easily be obscured. Love your videos!

Great job!!! There are a few things I would consider adding. First is safety goggles/safety glasses. Second is work gloves. Third is batteries. 4th is a battery tester. 5th is a pencil sharpener. I have a solar battery recharger and battery bank and I like to keep all my batteries charged, but remembering which ones are charged and which ones are not charged can be difficult in an emergency situation. I also keep my electronics in an EMP bag or a waterproof EMP pouch. I also keep a hygiene kit, a Scrubba laundry washing bag, a solar shower, and a clothesline in my bag. 10 days in unclean clothes or without keeping clean can breed bacteria which can cause infections. I also have an empty cooler chair for when I need to sit. It's very lightweight and can waterproof items in a storm.
Good point. Very few videos ever cover clothing, keeping clean etc.... Just a couple pairs of socks, underwear, vests/light t-shirt will make a big difference and increase morale.
Something that might be better than night vision, especially for the use you mentioned: A cell phone with a FLIR camera. I bought a Blackview BV9800 Pro directly from the manufacturer about a year ago for $320 USD shipped. It's fully rugged and waterproof, has a huge battery, and a built in FLIR camera. Unlike a lot of the rugged or 'work' phones with wonky operating systems that won't run a lot of apps it'll run any version of Android and I've yet to find an app that doesn't work on it. With the FLIR camera I can see anything warm blooded through even the most dense brush. I'm sure you've seen FLIR cameras in action on TV shows like cops. This one isn't super high resolution like the ones on helicopters, but it overlays the FLIR image over the image from one of it's two 'regular' cameras so you can see a lot more detail. I can see the electrical wires and pipes in the walls of every building I've tried it in, so long as the wires or pipes are in use, or recently used. Amazing tech for three hundred bucks, and we're all carrying around a phone anyway!
@@Damacles9 At this point I don't want anything 5G, so I got the 4G version. It's tough, in a serious metal case with rubber on the corners and back. It's got a great drop rating and I watched a couple reviews where they dropped them on concrete and bounced them across a parking lot. It's a thick phone, but no more so than a typical phone with a rugged case that can take the same abuse.

Thanks for the video. I plan on hiking the entire 1200 miles of the Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin, USA. There are towns scattered throughout to purchase food if needed, but I intend to live off the land as much as I can.

One thing that I noticed missing would be some type of goggles that fit over glasses and fit tight to the face to keep chemicals and smoke out of your eyes. It should go with the half face masks. I would keep a horse at a boarding stable outside the city. Then you could travel offroad and the horse would feed itself whenever food was available. A horse can average 30 miles a day.
Lilly what about clean dry socks and pants and knickers underwear it would make life a lot more comfortable for a high mileage 10 day walk and some toilet paper , and some form of isotonic sports drink I think you can by it in powder form not only in liquid form . Lilly.
If some one steals your vehicle you also lost the gear weather they took it from you strait forward which i wouldn't let you keep it if that was the case there not going to let keep anything second they took it while you were in a store or away from your car.
Awsome setup 👍🤙. I like how you explained the distance on the map and how to set up caches especially if you have to transition and go by foot. Things can happen quickly and road blocks effect traveling by vehicle. I have seen situations where roads have been covered with rubble like blocks, bricks, large rocks and burning of car tyres that blockade the roads.

Unfortunately, Lily lives in Austria, and despite the fact of it being the home country of the Glock pistol, Austrian citizens have to jump through a ridiculous number of hoops and pay outlandish prices in order to legally own a pistol any firearm for that matter. As well as get on a specialized waiting list that could take 6 to 8 months.
For the risk of radiation fallout you should have potassium iodine tablets and for you in Europe personal defense can be had with a SAS survival takedown bow and arrows easy to pack and use and come in 35lb and 50lb draw weights.
Before I go camping I do the whole thing over in my mind first ,from when I arrive at the camp ground then setting up camp the things I will need to do that then I cook make coffee I do all of these things in my mind also thinking about all of that equipment I will need , I like to get it together as I think about it ,then I do the same with sleeping gear wet weather gear etc etc, it's important to separate each need ,so you are less likely to forget something, because as we know you just cant go home and get it,
I live in the country. My plan is to dig in and fight. At my age survival on the run just isn't going to word. Dig in and fight may not either but I'm going to make them hurt for what they want to take.
I live in a small town with only about 350 people. But it's scary, crazy, how serious and well organized. The people living here are they have meetings every month to discuss everybody's role. In a bug in situation if shit ever hits the fan in order to protect this, township and I can tell that they are not playing around when they discuss things.

You should not wrap your electronics directly in tinfoil - put some isolation inbetween so the emp runs around them, not through them (also remove the battery if possible)... BUT an impressive setup, gave me some important hints! Q - what's that alarm-thingy called?
Excellent video Lilly. That's a fantastic kit. I would recommend if you have to bug out at least have a battle buddy with you. Going at it alone would be really dangerous. Also, I would hate to see a bear, but I'm glad we don't have bears where I am in Texas. Lol

It seems to me that as for the WALKING option, in addition to the standard camping items (tent, tarp, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, basic cooking utensils, food and water, carrying all of the additional “technical” items mentioned herein, would put a substantial WEIGHT strain on anyone who is not a seasoned hiker, and would obviously necessitate eliminating as many items as possible. When hiking long distances LESS is MORE.
A Good Video, I didn't find a link for the Night Vision. You printed a map for an area here in the U.S., for those of us in the U.S. we might consider a Defensive Compact Firearm and Ammo with all appropriate Permits and Hunting Lisc. in case of Predators both 2 and 4 legged.
Austria is close to the “bug out zone” these days. Not so much in Phoenix, AZ., USA. Triple digit temps for the next 100 days. Shade is the commodity of choice.
Same here in Louisiana. Not to mention bugging out. Into the forests and swamps of Louisiana is not recommanded unless you are. A actual professional Survivalist Too many dam things that can bite Sting or eat you. Lol🫤
You didn't mention that the PowerBank in the kit also has its own built in Solar panel. I know all the roads and "most" of the tracks for hundreds of kms from my place and I am unlikely to add the gas mask option although I have one, just too much bulk and hassle to use considering the probability to need one. Everything taken is based on the risk, versus the likely need.

I'm going to hide a cache in 2 bugout spots, just basics like emergency poncho and medical blanket, cheap camping knife, matches, lighters, candles, plastic zip lock bags, can opener and pencils and pencil sharpeners.

i always read that people/b.o.b. pack you should/maybe carry gold or silver. i would think that a no or little inter action with people would be what you woud want in bugging out. (with all the people who will be out it may get/be imposible not to) but maybe in say 90 days having gold/silver may come in handy (yes i know, can't go back to get it) but to have it would not be my priority. to barter with, again not to get/run into people if you do not have to would be my main concern. (say you barter with the gold/silver now you may be a target) always something to think about when/if the balloon goes up. water=how much and may get to heavy, food how much do you have room or to much weight (even if dehy.), first aid=you always can not find something you did not bring if you did not practise a shake down. be alert my fellow preppers, stay safe and be aware with what's out there and what you may need/have. like i said carry your stuff a few miles to see if you can do it and add or lighten as needed.
If your car gets stolen, what makes you think they're going let you get a bag from your car? Or a Car Accident Damaged your bag? You can prepare for any emergency situation (Which is a Good Thing), But the KEY to Survival may come down to you being able to Adapt. In a Crisis, think of "Naked and Afraid", but in Real Life. We watch and Learn from Videos like Lilly's, but the big thing is to know what to do if you forgot something or you lose your supplies. As far as the term "Tactical", it has little to no meaning... Like the Term "Assault Weapon"... "Tactical" is usually a term used by Marketing to sell cool looking but inferior products at Top Grade Prices".
The P2 or P3 filters you have are great but I suggest the 3M 6035 cartridge P3. The 3M “pandemic” filters. They can be reused easily and will last for the “life of the pandemic”. They only fail a after being clogged with dust which takes weeks to months in a normal environment. Light, robust and pass air easily. In an actual pandemic, the external plastic box is wiped down with alcohol or similar and the mask is soaked in a bleach bucket, all with proper technique. The main advantage is their durability and they are much more robust to knocks and scratches. You would also need the charcoal cartridge filters. By the way, the 3M painter half masks are the same as the medical 3M half masks. Identical. Something I found out desperately looking for PPE as a medical worker during COVID. Not going into mask effectiveness during COVID here.
With all this talk of EMP's one thing I never see mentioned are 'Betalights'. These are tritium light sources that can glow for years. I have a 'Nite glowring' (keyring) that has been glowing for 23 years, but proper torches are available. They used to be produced in Austria, but not sure now. Civilian ownership of tritium lights are banned in the U.S but afaik legal throughout UK/EU. They don't require batteries or have any electronic components susceptible to EMP's. There are a few YT videos about them.
Interesting. No BOB/Bugout Bag contains irreplaceable personal items like diaries, photos, hard drives or degrees. These are not necessary to survive but since I had to bug out, I will probably be unable to return. Gold and silver are probably not presented in the videos but can be included in the BOB depending on the scenario.
interesting selection.. seems very heavy for the average person to carry for 5 hours a day for 10 days. How much does it weigh? I'd just say do not take sawyer mini as your main source of filtration, as noted by thru hikers who use this kind of stuff for weeks and months on end, they are notoriously bad at becoming clogged or very slow and hard to flush. If you're carrying a sawyer, get the big one and carry the syringe, also carry chlorine dioxide (katadyn micropur) tablets as a backup, they weigh nothing and kill everything that a filter misses like viruses.
I think that folding 20" mini bike in your car, is good option for bug-out. It can spare you much time and energy, if you are forced to leave your car.

Great idea. Condensation ever build up on the interior lens (or could it)? Maybe carry some anti-fog substance...

You could spit in the googles a little bit and spread it, that would prevent them for getting fog. That works.

Bicycles would be a lifesaver. Panniers can take all the weight of your gear and you could cover the ground much quicker.

My survival pack in my rig has a small solo stove with the matching pot, love it! My 72 hour go bag has a small pocket rocket 2 from MSR

Unlike a lot of the rugged or 'work' phones with wonky operating systems that won't run a lot of apps it'll run any version of Android and I've yet to find an app that doesn't work on it. With the FLIR camera I can see anything warm blooded through even the most dense brush. I'm sure you've seen FLIR cameras in action on TV shows like cops. This one isn't super high resolution like the ones on helicopters, but it overlays the FLIR image over the image from one of it's two 'regular' cameras so you can see a lot more detail. I can see the electrical wires and pipes in the walls of every building I've tried it in, so long as the wires or pipes are in use, or recently used. Amazing tech for three hundred bucks, and we're all carrying around a phone anyway!
I had an earlier blackview phone and that one was anything but rugged.
As a dedicated tool for bug out security, this is a great idea. The 5G version is $400 and "ruggedized" for EDC, etc.
@@Damacles9 At this point I don't want anything 5G, so I got the 4G version. It's tough, in a serious metal case with rubber on the corners and back. It's got a great drop rating and I watched a couple reviews where they dropped them on concrete and bounced them across a parking lot. It's a thick phone, but no more so than a typical phone with a rugged case that can take the same abuse.
@@prepsson They make a whole range of phones, this one's rated for a four foot+ drop onto concrete. Lots of reviews where testers drop them from shoulder high and bounce 'em across parking lots.

One thing that I noticed missing would be some type of goggles that fit over glasses and fit tight to the face to keep chemicals and smoke out of your eyes. It should go with the half face masks. I would keep a horse at a boarding stable outside the city. Then you could travel offroad and the horse would feed itself whenever food was available. A horse can average 30 miles a day.
Lilly what about clean dry socks and pants and knickers underwear it would make life a lot more comfortable for a high mileage 10 day walk and some toilet paper , and some form of isotonic sports drink I think you can by it in powder form not only in liquid form .

If some one steals your vehicle you also lost the gear weather they took it from you strait forward which i wouldn't let you keep it if that was the case there not going to let keep anything second they took it while you were in a store or away from your car.

Awsome setup 👍🤙. I like how you explained the distance on the map and how to set up caches especially if you have to transition and go by foot. Things can happen quickly and road blocks effect traveling by vehicle. I have seen situations where roads have been covered with rubble like blocks, bricks, large rocks and burning of car tyres that blockade the roads.

The one thing you are missing is a firearm. I live in Arizona and I always keep a AR 7 .22 survival rifle and a 9mm pistol.
Unfortunately, Lily lives in Austria, and despite the fact of it being the home country of the Glock pistol, Austrian citizens have to jump through a ridiculous number of hoops and pay outlandish prices in order to legally own a pistol any firearm for that matter. As well as get on a specialized waiting list that could take 6 to 8 months.

For the risk of radiation fallout you should have potassium iodine tablets and for you in Europe personal defense can be had with a SAS survival takedown bow and arrows easy to pack and use and come in 35lb and 50lb draw weights.

No titanium canteens for any tactical situation. The caps are way too noisy when you screw or unscrew them.
Before I go camping I do the whole thing over in my mind first ,from when I arrive at the camp ground then setting up camp the things I will need to do that then I cook make coffee I do all of these things in my mind also thinking about all of that equipment I will need , I like to get it together as I think about it ,then I do the same with sleeping gear wet weather gear etc etc, it's important to separate each need ,so you are less likely to forget something, because as we know you just cant go home and get it,
Expired MREs are a good source of espit stoves , water purification tablets , matches . Great post , covered a loy of very god points.

I live in the country. My plan is to dig in and fight. At my age survival on the run just isn't going to word. Dig in and fight may not either but I'm going to make them hurt for what they want to take.
I am like you. I would not get far on foot. I plan on bugging in. If somebody tries to invade my space they will pay dearly.
I live in a small town with only about 350 people. But it's scary, crazy, how serious and well organized. The people living here are they have meetings every month to discuss everybody's role. In a bug in situation if shit ever hits the fan in order to protect this, township and I can tell that they are not playing around when they discuss things.

You should not wrap your electronics directly in tinfoil - put some isolation inbetween so the emp runs around them, not through them (also remove the battery if possible)... BUT an impressive setup, gave me some important hints! Q - what's that alarm-thingy called?

It seems to me that as for the WALKING option, in addition to the standard camping items (tent, tarp, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, basic cooking utensils, food and water, carrying all of the additional “technical” items mentioned herein, would put a substantial WEIGHT strain on anyone who is not a seasoned hiker, and would obviously necessitate eliminating as many items as possible. When hiking long distances LESS is MORE.
A Good Video, I didn't find a link for the Night Vision. You printed a map for an area here in the U.S., for those of us in the U.S. we might consider a Defensive Compact Firearm and Ammo with all appropriate Permits and Hunting Lisc. in case of Predators both 2 and 4 legged.
You should do a video on where you go for your maps and how to download/print them.

Austria is close to the “bug out zone” these days. Not so much in Phoenix, AZ., USA. Triple digit temps for the next 100 days. Shade is the commodity of choice.

You didn't mention that the PowerBank in the kit also has its own built in Solar panel. I know all the roads and "most" of the tracks for hundreds of kms from my place and I am unlikely to add the gas mask option although I have one, just too much bulk and hassle to use considering the probability to need one.
Everything taken is based on the risk, versus the likely need.

I'm going to hide a cache in 2 bugout spots, just basics like emergency poncho and medical blanket, cheap camping knife, matches, lighters, candles, plastic zip lock bags, can opener and pencils and pencil sharpeners.
Food and water. It's basic needs. Shelter, clothes and FnB.

i always read that people/b.o.b. pack you should/maybe carry gold or silver. i would think that a no or little inter action with people would be what you woud want in bugging out. (with all the people who will be out it may get/be imposible not to) but maybe in say 90 days having gold/silver may come in handy (yes i know, can't go back to get it) but to have it would not be my priority. to barter with, again not to get/run into people if you do not have to would be my main concern. (say you barter with the gold/silver now you may be a target) always something to think about when/if the balloon goes up. water=how much and may get to heavy, food how much do you have room or to much weight (even if dehy.), first aid=you always can not find something you did not bring if you did not practise a shake down. be alert my fellow preppers, stay safe and be aware with what's out there and what you may need/have. like i said carry your stuff a few miles to see if you can do it and add or lighten as needed.

If your car gets stolen, what makes you think they're going let you get a bag from your car? Or a Car Accident Damaged your bag? You can prepare for any emergency situation (Which is a Good Thing), But the KEY to Survival may come down to you being able to Adapt.
In a Crisis, think of "Naked and Afraid", but in Real Life. We watch and Learn from Videos like Lilly's, but the big thing is to know what to do if you forgot something or you lose your supplies.
As far as the term "Tactical", it has little to no meaning... Like the Term "Assault Weapon"... "Tactical" is usually a term used by Marketing to sell cool looking but inferior products at Top Grade Prices".
The P2 or P3 filters you have are great but I suggest the 3M 6035 cartridge P3. The 3M “pandemic” filters. They can be reused easily and will last for the “life of the pandemic”. They only fail a after being clogged with dust which takes weeks to months in a normal environment. Light, robust and pass air easily. In an actual pandemic, the external plastic box is wiped down with alcohol or similar and the mask is soaked in a bleach bucket, all with proper technique. The main advantage is their durability and they are much more robust to knocks and scratches. You would also need the charcoal cartridge filters. By the way, the 3M painter half masks are the same as the medical 3M half masks. Identical. Something I found out desperately looking for PPE as a medical worker during COVID. Not going into mask effectiveness during COVID here.
With all this talk of EMP's one thing I never see mentioned are 'Betalights'. These are tritium light sources that can glow for years. I have a 'Nite glowring' (keyring) that has been glowing for 23 years, but proper torches are available. They used to be produced in Austria, but not sure now. Civilian ownership of tritium lights are banned in the U.S but afaik legal throughout UK/EU. They don't require batteries or have any electronic components susceptible to EMP's. There are a few YT videos about them.

Interesting. No BOB/Bugout Bag contains irreplaceable personal items like diaries, photos, hard drives or degrees.
These are not necessary to survive but since I had to bug out, I will probably be unable to return.
Gold and silver are probably not presented in the videos but can be included in the BOB depending on the scenario.
interesting selection.. seems very heavy for the average person to carry for 5 hours a day for 10 days. How much does it weigh? I'd just say do not take sawyer mini as your main source of filtration, as noted by thru hikers who use this kind of stuff for weeks and months on end, they are notoriously bad at becoming clogged or very slow and hard to flush. If you're carrying a sawyer, get the big one and carry the syringe, also carry chlorine dioxide (katadyn micropur) tablets as a backup, they weigh nothing and kill everything that a filter misses like viruses.
I think that folding 20" mini bike in your car, is good option for bug-out.
It can spare you much time and energy, if you are forced to leave your car.
