consumerism on Christmas is crazy. Btw buying lots of shit doesn't help you be happy. In modern america people many of them have way to much credit card debt despite this they buy lots of nonsense around this time. Consumer debt is too high so yes its a big problem.
This probably isn't the kind of crowd that idolizes Charles Dickens, but I really love "A Christmas Carol". What I usually take away from it (or its adaptations) is: that it is good to indulge the occasional holiday, and perhaps especially so for one so focused on economy and thrift as Ebenezer Scrooge. I'm pretty sure I was supposed to learn some lesson about charity or something, but instead I learned that holidays are good.
I ignore Christmas entirely. Works well for me- no silly distractions and unnecessary stress. The sun goes up & the sun goes down, just like every other day.
So ignore buying tons of cheap plastic toys made in China and used only a few times, where the box is often more fun? So ignore all the credit card debt piled up? So ignore those children who are swamped by so many gifts they can't even open them all in one day? So ignore that most gifts now are just cash or gift cards, the real personal touch?

I'm a Christian...every day is Christmas Day, virtue-signalling at one time of the year is a vice.

Capitalism doesn't make Christmas more fun in China.
ah yes hard times for the elves
@jd-py5nm
The elves are working hard all year making crappy toys, but Chinese Capitalism doesn't include 'fun'.
Sure it does. Before recent times, there was no Christmas celebrations in China, now there are.

China, ruled by Chinese Capitalist Party, oh wait
we had to legislate against child labour - it wasn't voluntary
It was needed for "free indoctrination"
Wrong. Child labor rates were already declining. Legislation was largely redundant
@@ExPwner Yeah, that's why we still fight to eradicate it today.
