That's awesome Zach! So glad to see your channel grow. Would you consider making more videos on teaching the full-hand front squat position? I spent a good hour in the gym earlier trying to relearn and it is a slow process. Keep it up!
Right on as usual. I go to a crossfit gym and I hear the mobility thing all the time. I tell people struggling with overhead squats and snatches to flat out squat more. It's simple, back and front squat more frequently.
I had the same problem and sots press had helped me tremendously as well as squats without lockout or touch go. These squats were a tip from an Ukrainian wl coach that said they were great for training the power position
the hardest part for me is bending that bar behind me while I decend. It's like I'm not loose enough to even allow my shoulders to stretch that far behind me when I'm going down, which makes me lose balance. Whats your best queues for that.
Hey Zack, I think your stuff is some of the best stuff out there. Do you have any seminars coming up in Denver or out west? The UK is far away for some of us. The time to teach this stuff properly in a Crossfit setting is negligible and I like how you acknowledge the difference between using Olympic lifts as a training modality as opposed to training for the sport of weightlifting. The problem is that if you are trying to use them as a training modality, how can you coach people with very little technical proficiency to do them safely? I coach at a Crossfit gym and I hate when snatch is programmed in a workout because you have novices attempting to do the most challenging and technical lift on the planet in what is basically a race. Lots of ugliness going down. Anyway, I'd love to attend one of your workshops and improve my craft.
I LOVE your videos. Do you think you could do one on creating better front rack positioning? A lot of my clients/friends have issues getting their elbows up & in to create that shelf on the shoulders. I know wrist mobility, tricep, and let tightness are common culprits, but I'd be curious to hear your views on this!
Hi Zack, can you make more videos how to recover from injuries or rehab? I know the topic is quite cliche but you have my trust with your trusted resources
One thing I did to change my depth was I imagined only pulling the bar nipple high and focusing on getting under it instead of pulling it up as high as possible. Because that became inconsistent, but having an area where I know I’m going to stop the bar before going under it helped build up that confidence and mentality to get under the bar lower instead of catching it high with poor form
What do you mean by “femurs not tracking over the toes”? His knees don’t seem to be caving in on the squat. Are you saying he just needs to be stronger with a wider distance between the feet?
Wish I was in Europe to come to Dublin. You and Clarence OMG! Gonna be such a good seminar. Unfortunately I'm in New Zealand right now... will you do a video recap of the seminar?
So, let me preface this by saying I'm stupid. Now that I have that out of the way... I decided to go low(er) on my back squat yesterday and felt a significant pop that I thought I could hear over my earbuds. It was near maximal, and I'm stupid... but it hurts to flex my hip now. Stay light and keep training end range strength, or should I take a different Avenue? I love all of your content by the way, keep making these videos.
Are some people anatomically not capable of getting to the wider, position? I have been struggling with this for years. My bottom position is only attainable via a narrow stance. Anything wider, I cannot reach 90 degrees. I thought it was a tight TFL, because my hip interal rotation is limited, but I went to a physical therapist and he told me that my hip anatomy won't allow me to do get down that low.
hip morphology is definetely a factor in stance width! if you can hit your positions with a narrow stance and it feels better, i see no problems using it over a wider stance
weather you consider it nonsense or not, there shouldnt be any problem with a narrow stance, if he can hit the positions comfortably! just like squtting there is no one way and forcing a certain way of cueing a movement might be disadvantageous
no there isnt any inherent problem with a narrow hip except that you run into issues with impingement in exceptionally narrow stances. there is definitely a right and a wrong way to squat, im pretty sick of this everybody is different and perfect bullshit. youre squatting poorly if you arent squatting properly.
Hey Zack, great video! One question though, what do I do if the limiting factor is my shoulder stability and strength? I can front and back squat well, but my shoulders give out when I snatch or overhead squat. Any advice?
Hey Zack, great video! What do you think about a modifed lifting shoe to further increase heel lift? Would this be a viable option for those with poor dorsiflexion? Thanks!
Do you flair you lats out when doing a clean and jerk / snatch? It seems as though that's what a lot of higher level athletes do but I'm not quite sure. To squeeze the lats or flair them out?
Hi Zack, I have decent range when I do back squats and air squats, ie my bottom position is similar to yours but with a barbell overhead I really suffer and I look like your lifter at the bottom of his snatch. Will your drills work for me?
I physically cannot push my knees out enough if I take wide stance and try to hit bottom. I do stretches for years, but all I get is pain and inflammation. Should I keep doing it or just give up and settle with narrower stance?
Pavel Petukhov then I wouldn't worry too much about going wider. Everyone's anatomy is different. There are plenty of great athletes that catch their snatch with a narrow stance.
Great video Zack, recently found your channel and digging it. Question: would doing these drills extremely often be helpful, or would I quickly adapt and see diminishing returns. I stuggle with catching snatches in a low squat (I power snatch more than I can snatch and catch in a squat). I work 6 hours a day at a gym, where my boss is fine with me exercising while on the clock. Theoretically I could do drills like these for an hour every day if I wanted. How much of doing these drills would be optimal for maximum improvement?
I can squat very deep and sit at the bottom all day but when I clean my brain refuses me to go as deep as I squat or relax. It’s crazy ! Im new to weightlifting so I think It will be better in couple of months but it’s crazy !
Garrett Hardin Somewhat... it’s similar in the sense that you use a support. The first stage is different than the typical box squat because you start from the support. The box squat is usually taught with the lowering or eccentric portion included right away. Usually with lifters who have weak adductors this is stage where they mess up. Then it becomes more challenging to find the correct posture especially if the load is on your back (like a typically taught box squat). So you take that away and find your posture on the support then stand.
Zack Telander I agree. I like the variation. I think another good tool is a belt squat. It helped me a lot with many of these same issues if you are very conscious of your positioning during the movement
Your videos are great but I don't know what an adductor is. So googled it and apparently it's a muscle responsible for adduction...I guess I'm lucky I don't have issues in the bottom.
True reason why people don’t go all the way down while doing* the snatch is because it’s hard. You really have to work on it. It’s hard to do a squat while holding the bar over your head. You gotta be pretty strong. But once you can do it then you know you’ve made progress. When I started like most I could barely do a squat while holding the 45 lb bar over my head. Just work on it.
You should consider adding other language subtitles to your videos. You get could a huge audience boost. I'm from Bolivia but can't recommend your videos to friends because of it.
SHIRTS AND HOODIES! HOODIES AND SHIRTS! AHHHHHHHH! www.zacktelander.com/#store
That's awesome Zach! So glad to see your channel grow.
Would you consider making more videos on teaching the full-hand front squat position? I spent a good hour in the gym earlier trying to relearn and it is a slow process.
Keep it up!
Is there any way to get an international shipping discount? To Brazil the shipping costa is more than the t-shirt itself :(.
When the killar-collab with Clarence0 happening ? :D
May be a dumb question should I buy weightlifting shoes or just Just a CrossFit like shoe?
when you are in Dublin don't refer to it as being in the UK. it won't go down well. Just a word of warning.
Niall McCarney wow I’m actually super embarrassed about this ☹️
Ya the IRA will be coming after you if you do
Niall McCarney Easy Michael Collins.
cause ain't no such things as halfway crooks

Right on as usual. I go to a crossfit gym and I hear the mobility thing all the time. I tell people struggling with overhead squats and snatches to flat out squat more. It's simple, back and front squat more frequently.

Aspiring weightlifting coach. Your channel is a great resource!
Dude, thank you so much! I was having trouble getting low(er) for my snatch and this looks like it might help me a bit. Cute puppy too
I had the same problem and sots press had helped me tremendously as well as squats without lockout or touch go. These squats were a tip from an Ukrainian wl coach that said they were great for training the power position
The best channel on youtube. I'm definetly buying your merch when I get paid!
Man, the ratio of likes to dislike of your videos is amazing... and I totally understand why... keep up the good work!
A comment before these sad times 😂😭
Make a video on improving ( fixing ?) Thoracic spine flexibility/capacity
Landerval check out from 6:10 on in his previous video: ua-cam.com/video/DNcXQ5jPnr4/v-deo.html
the hardest part for me is bending that bar behind me while I decend. It's like I'm not loose enough to even allow my shoulders to stretch that far behind me when I'm going down, which makes me lose balance. Whats your best queues for that.
That's exactly my problem, I'll try it tomorrow, was thinking that's something to do with my body structure
Hey Zack, I think your stuff is some of the best stuff out there. Do you have any seminars coming up in Denver or out west? The UK is far away for some of us. At 2:04, you make that look so easy. Not so easy for me, that's why I'm here. Thanks.
Looking forward to the Milton Keynes Seminar!

Great Channel! I am new to oly weightlifting and I learn lots from you! ! Keep it up :)
Thanks for these drills man! Very valuable info you are putting out there!

What do you mean by “femurs not tracking over the toes”? His knees don’t seem to be caving in on the squat. Are you saying he just needs to be stronger with a wider distance between the feet?
It Will in fact depend in how you are built, the guy got to hit fulll depth because he could get More stable with a wider catch position
How wide should the recieving stance ideally be in the receiving of the snatch? What would be considered too wide. I'm 5'10
Can’t wait for you to be on the same video as Harry Squatter!!!! Exploding knees all the way 😬
RIP Prodigy. Great video once again Zack!
Exactly the video I needed! Thanks ZACK!
Love this channel!!! Do more!!
Wish I was in Europe to come to Dublin. You and Clarence OMG! Gonna be such a good seminar. Unfortunately I'm in New Zealand right now... will you do a video recap of the seminar?
This is the video I was waiting for! Thanks so much!!

he better have some imaging to back up that claim (likely nonsense)
weather you consider it nonsense or not, there shouldnt be any problem with a narrow stance, if he can hit the positions comfortably! just like squtting there is no one way and forcing a certain way of cueing a movement might be disadvantageous
For Chris S, look up images of "Scotch Hip" versus "normal" hip and you will see those images.
no there isnt any inherent problem with a narrow hip except that you run into issues with impingement in exceptionally narrow stances. there is definitely a right and a wrong way to squat, im pretty sick of this everybody is different and perfect bullshit. youre squatting poorly if you arent squatting properly.
Your channel is sick man! love it!
Hey Zack, great video! One question though, what do I do if the limiting factor is my shoulder stability and strength? I can front and back squat well, but my shoulders give out when I snatch or overhead squat. Any advice?
Hey Zack, great content as always! Do you have any tips for slow elbow turnover when doing cleans?
Hey Zack, great video! What do you think about a modifed lifting shoe to further increase heel lift? Would this be a viable option for those with poor dorsiflexion? Thanks!
Hey man can you make a video on a good diet for a wieghtlifting. If he already has one could someone point in the way thanks.
Pls come to switzerland
Sets and reps? Really appreciate the content.
Any UK/England seminar dates in 2020?
Can you do a video about the problem of jumping forward during the snatch?
Do you flair you lats out when doing a clean and jerk / snatch? It seems as though that's what a lot of higher level athletes do but I'm not quite sure. To squeeze the lats or flair them out?
Zack, when are your seminars in the states or do you stay in the UK 100%?
What about when squatting with a flat base or barefoot? Is it still possible to hit optimal squat depth?
What if you you have the ability to catch low but have issues cuz ur used to catching high.
Hi Zack, I have decent range when I do back squats and air squats, ie my bottom position is similar to yours but with a barbell overhead I really suffer and I look like your lifter at the bottom of his snatch. Will your drills work for me?
thx this is the limiting factor in my snatch :)
I physically cannot push my knees out enough if I take wide stance and try to hit bottom. I do stretches for years, but all I get is pain and inflammation. Should I keep doing it or just give up and settle with narrower stance?
Pavel Petukhov can you hit proper depth while keeping a neutral spine and good joint alignment with your narrow stance?
I would say so, yes.
Pavel Petukhov then I wouldn't worry too much about going wider. Everyone's anatomy is different. There are plenty of great athletes that catch their snatch with a narrow stance.
Awesome video, but what I want to know is does clarence still live at home with both parents?
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thank you sir.
Well done my friend 😃👍
du bist ja wirklich überall Mani :D
Digga Manni
Hallo meine Freunde 😊
Good stuff as usual
Can you make a video on why Weightlifters don’t squat low bar so they can overload more and can you show us a program for novice weightlifters?!
inb4 it gets a post on reddit

Hi Zach,
The MK seminar says that it starts on sat at 9pm and ends on Sunday at 4pm. But what time does it end on the Saturday?
Just curious.
do you currently take online clients?
Thanks!!
so the second drill is just box squats?
Garrett Hardin Somewhat... it’s similar in the sense that you use a support. The first stage is different than the typical box squat because you start from the support. Whats the name of the song in the intro ?
Shook Ones
You deserve more subs man!!
Your videos are great but I don't know what an adductor is. So googled it and apparently it's a muscle responsible for adduction...I guess I'm lucky I don't have issues in the bottom.
How low do I have to squat?
May i ask
Where is the beat in the intro
From ?
The beat in the whole video
Mob Deep - Halfway Crooks
Shook Ones
KEEP EM COMING
Dogs are the best!as all of your videos helpful af
Your reasoning for those (Very low) box squats are remarkably similar to Louie Simmons' reasoning for his Box Squats.
Keep killing it bro! If you're looking for interns I'd love to work with you
I think I know the guy on the video, Saludos desde España!
Rodri Mora De que me conocees? (??)
creo que te he visto en IG o sino a gente entrenando en tu box
Rodri Mora Ya me gustaría a mi conocerte. Estos videos son del gimnasio Improve, en Manresa. Un saludo.

To get lower with (much) more weight, you should supply Testosterone
Mani Matter as in anabolic roids or ???...
nah fam, catabolic roids
could you design a powerlifting/weightlifting strength training split 6 days a week
You should consider adding other language subtitles to your videos. You get could a huge audience boost.
I'm from Bolivia but can't recommend your videos to friends because of it.
Enthralled? you were very much fascinated in his performance?
Good vid dad
