畢美淇 studied Hospitality at what is now known as University College Birmingham, previously a community college called the College of Food. A friend of mine attended with her, and they were friend, later acquaintances. My friend mentioned that 畢美淇 was not particularly nice people at the time and, in her words, "rather overweight." When 畢美淇 later returned to England, however, she had slimmed down and looked quite well. She even brought a videotape of her participation in the Miss Macau beauty pageant to show her friends, who reportedly found it very amusing. According to many Macanese Chinese people including myself didn’t view 畢美淇 as beautiful or believe she deserved the Miss Macau crown. The College of Food (now University College Birmingham) was known for being relatively accessible as a community college. It was later upgraded to university college status about ten years ago but isn’t comparable to institutions like King’s College, Cambridge.
