The malayalam songs of 80s and 90s were widely remade in all indian languages...
But the sad part is that the real compossers never got the credit since the malayalam movie were not watched by any non-malayalis....there are even times when the composer who copied the song won awards

Ilaiyaraaja re-used the tune of the song 'Thumbi vaa' in his Telugu, Tamil and in Balu Mahendra's Hindi film Aur Ek Prem Kahani. The song was also used two more times by Ilaiyaraaja himself and once by Shankar Ganesh. IIt was also used in the 2009 Hindi film Paa as "Gumm Summ Paa"
